Was reading other other day that we've been bowled out for 85 or less, once the 1st wicket has gone, 7 times in 3 years.
7 times less than 85.
That's an unbelievable statistic.
Been watching England since the mid 70s and am struggling to remember a worse run of results in test cricket.
Was reading about this the other day. Really good England side got absolutely thumped.
Batsmen are stuck in 20/20 mode....there lies the problem.. they have forgotten the basics of settling in as batsmen and playing safe when needed, theres no stubborn players like Atherton anymore to hold fort for the entire innings... They fold quicker than a pack of cards nowadays.
Sometimes I think it's ego. Bairstow, as the main culprit, seems completely unwilling to let a few overs go past and take the heat out of a situation - he has this ridiculous need to show the bowlers what a big man he is by thumping boundaries time and again.
His dismissal on Thursday night, 5 down and as the last remaining senior batsman was criminal. And he gets out like that a lot.
This is his 85th test match!! That's more than Trescothick or Jonathan Trott. It's more than Robin Smith! And he has an average of about 34 to show for it.
Brook should have been first on the team sheet - and not for carrying the drinks.
Watching the first (and probably second innings) shambles up close will probably scar him for life, when beforehand his confidence would have been sky high.
