Jones has had a strange time at the club lately, out of favour for most of last season then back in the team suddenly and then offered a new deal!

I would expect one or two players coming in shortly. They'll be back for pre-season in about a fortnight I would think.

I'm pleased Jones has signed. With him and Ethuhu (if fit) at least we've got a little bit of experience.

Team at present:

Adam Collin

Christie Elliot
Jack Iredale
Jon Mellish
Jarrad Branthwaite

Kelvin Etuhu
Liam McCarron
Mike Jones
Harry McKirdy

Hallam Hope
Keighran Kerr

Subs:
Josh Dixon
Louis Gray

Stefan Scougall (offer)

If Hope, McCarron and Branthwaite leaves we'll be even shorter!

We'll need a couple of experienced defenders, two midfielders, two wide men and a couple of forwards at least!

Can’t see us signing Oates as he’s under contract for next season. Longstaff would be a good player for us. Seen him a few times, plays deeper than his brother.

Expecting a signing or two this week surely. Holdsworth will be working flat oot I would think. I know its the close season but has there ever been a club as low profile as Carlisle United.

Oates was mince when he was at Hartlepool.

All the other clubs in the division have signed a lot less players than they released. Except Northampton who have signed 8. Only seeing one loan signing in total. We have 6 weeks until we start don't we? Loanees will start to drift in soon

Longstaff is a defensive midfielder surely we need a creative midfielder after the loss of our one and only creative player in Devitt.

I hope Scougall signs. There’s definitely a quality player there, but got the feeling he wanted to be playing where Devitt or O’Hare were, so could never really get going.

We saw glimpses of his ability but If he stays I think we’d see a better version next season.

I see Morecambe have given their goalie a two year deal. They must be loaded.

I think I'd rather have somebody decent on a two year deal than two making up the numbers on 1 year deals. It's a false economy. Anybody that arrives on a 1 year deal is desperate!

I've no idea. Ayr would pay him 20k I would think, if he could get the same outside the game he might be financially better off, and he doesn't have to worry about transitioning in 5 years time. I don't get the impression his time with us last season put him in the shop window the way he would have hoped. Maybe just being realistic?
It also might not be true

He said last season it was easier to commute to us than it was to St Johnstone (must have been jogging it) so cant see Ayr being any better. Maybe hes got a job lined up there as well if the rumour is true.

If we are in talks with an attacking midfielder I guess it means it’s unlikely that Scougall will be staying.

Thomas for a season would be great and sounds like he wants to come unless Holdsworth is bullshitting. I’d love to get O’Hare back as well, but no chance imo. Once he settled in it was clear he’s far too good for league 2.

Big lump for hire James Hanson (still only 31) has gone to Grimsby Town on a 2-year deal after his release by AFC Wimbledon. Wasn't he the gadgee who was gradually edged out of the Bradford City side once Wyke joined them?

So Devitt was offered a longer contract although made up of options. I would have liked him to stay but, at least the club is trying to keep contracts equal in terms of time.
