Gary Liddle the only shock there for me.

Gerrard will be off too chesterfield. Liddle is a stupid decision he’s been a solid player for us should never have got rid of him

Actually didn’t expect Jones to get offered a deal. Obviously coming back into favour over the past month has earned him one.

Whether any of them accept their offers is another thing as no doubt there’ll be some big pay cuts.

Would have kept Liddle, but perhaps with the way Pressley wants his team to play with a high press he will be wanting to recruit more pacy energetic full backs.

Getting rid of Liddle I find baffling, to not even offer him a deal even.

Same with Gerrard.

There is Pressley harping on about them not being fit but that is where he comes in pre-season and get them fit because they are certainly good enough.

Liddle is a solid pro but has been too error-prone in the back half of this season, which wont have gone unnoticed by SP

Jones is the last of KC's incentive based contracted players, so I would imagine his offer will be quite a shock to him. On the flipside, I cant imagine many clubs queuing to sign him either

Correct decision on all four defenders Liddle , Gerrard and miller all in their thirties and have no pace the defence wants completely overhauled...Can,t argue with anyone he`s released, its now down to Pressley to rebuild.

Scougall isn't terrible to be fair, he is just not very good either.

Would suit Yeovil if they were trying to go back up but then again he is far too lightweight for our division never mind rough and tumble of The Conference.

I would have kept Liddle. Absolutely the correct decision on the other players. People on here were comparing Gerrard to Client Hill earlier in the season. I think we all know Gerrard isn't even 5% of the player Clint Hill was.

Gerrard did a job this season, and I don't doubt that we would have done a lot worse without him. But that is a far as it goes. For me he is unprofesisonal and is not someone to build a defence around.

Gerrard has history of not being fit enough for years. No surprise he’s been realrased.
For me CUFC was his last chance saloon and once again he’s blown it. Shame really as he is good enough just not fit enough.
Perhaps in view of the above he doesn’t have a lot between his lugs.

Scougall played over 100 games in League One for Sheff U so I'd say he's more than capable of playing League 2.

Liddle is one of those players who can (sometimes) get away with poor positioning or lack of physical commitment resulting in a goal because he often "looks assured". He is overall not good enough for me.

Not surprised with any of the released. For me Liddle has been consisitently mediocre since he signed. A solid player but not particularly good at anything. I was expecting a better player considering some folk on here were talking like he was Bobby Moore.

I’m still baffled by the Collin thing.

When they announced that they’d activated his contract extension clause they worded it that the fact the clause is activated means he’s tied down and he’ll definitely be here next season, so must be an option that the club have taken up. And again in todays retained article it suggests he’s staying. Yet Collin on twitter keeps saying / suggesting that nothing is decided and he’s now out of contract.

If the player has to then agree to the contract extension when the club activate the clause then it kind of defeats the point of it really as it’s just the same as deciding to offer any player a new contract and it then being down to the player whether he accepts.

Wether this is his own doing, or he’s been badly advised, we’ll maybe not know, but that’s what it comes across as...

Sad to see Liddle go but not overly surprised.
He is a really good player but I think needs to be in a 3 at the back to offer him a bit of cover.
Sheridan and Pressly have both called out the "senior" players at times this season for not being vocal enough or offering leadership and I did think that Liddle was top of that list.
Pressley dropped him as well and Liddle's own reaction to his mistake that led to the goal against Grimsby wouldn't have endeared him to the management.
That was probably me, Cheddarbob, that compared Gerrard to Hill.
Wasn't really meant as a like for like comparison, but more on the impact he had on the side.
I thought losing Hill would be a hammer bow to the defence but Gerrard gave us that strength, experience and solidity at the back and the loss of Hill wasn't so keenly felt.
Given his performances of recent times haven't been as good and he has been at fault for goals.
But the earlier season form he showed really was first class. At times he was immense. Away games at Port Vale and Cambridge spring to mind immediately where he was absolutely superb.
I still think that if he can get himself into better shape he's capable of playing a league above us.
Without him, a centre half pairing of Parkes and Liddle would have been a far weaker proposition.
Really pleased for Tom Parkes and hope he signs. Think he's had a great season and can do a job at fullback if required and good coming forward.

They won 5-2 away on Saturday and finished just 7 points behind the mighty Carlisle. They were flirting with relegation when he arrived. He can't be that bad.

It seems that next season is a good chance to move on from the whole Curle thing.
There are very few 'overpaid duffers' left from the Curle era , also hopefully for those that remain , the scars have healed from Curle's 'awful tactics'.
Pressley has very much got a clean slate now and can bring in his own players.
Similarly , if Northampton fans hate Curle as is suggested, I doubt he will last long if they are not at the business end after a season of consolidation this time.
Either way, it's a good chance for all concerned to look forward and not blame perdormances on what has gone before them.

Thought releasing Arthur was a bit unfair considering he only played a few minutes and we are desperately short of wingers but on the other hand why was he taking up a wage we could've given to someone else at the time.

More or less correct in my opinion. I just feel so sorry for Jason but it was inevitable after his last performance. He has been a wonderful servant to the club and he and Gary Dicker were instrumental in saving us from disaster not so long ago.

Liddle has been poor recently but over his time with us was messed about from position to position before finally being given the RB slot.

Jones perhaps a bit fortunate but he should have been back in the team long before he got selected for the last few games. I'd see him more as a squad player if we can get some better quality in over the summer ( but I'm not holding my breath )

I think the clear out is fair enough otherwise if 2 or 3 more had been given the benefit of the doubt we'd just end up chugging along at the same mediocre level. The real test now is for the manager to get more quality in and, hopefully, not have a squad that is over reliant on loanees. Again, unfortunately, I'll not be holding my breath regarding the latter point.

This is where NC could be innovative-instead of publishing historical information which has no relevance, why not publicly state the player budget for 19/20 and make a clear point that say an extra 200 on the gate is worth another player- and commit it to that budget

Anyways, I reiterate (ooh) what I found written about berwick's plight yesterday... "we have a board who rather than figure out what budget we need to get out this division and how to raise it, instead try and cut the budget to make ends meet. The outcome is predictable."

I’m going to the Berwick play off match against Cove-they really are in trouble with a board split between the good guys and the Freemasons-a bit like the current bunch of amateurs running the SFA.

If they are relegated,I fear it’s the end for them. They made a lot of cash out of Rangers’ in the third tier and have basically lived off it for 3 years-now all gone.Very sad.
