Devitt is way too outspoken to be a Curle favourite. Maybe in 5 years

Think the majority would agree that Liddle is a good footballer, he's been man of the match plenty times and seems to be a good pro.

However, in his 2 and a half years at the club we have made zero progress, and that progress only happens if you make these sort of changes. However good we might like to think he has been, the proof's in the pudding and we're still in League 2.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't have minded if Parkes was let go too, on the same basis. The only argument for him would be that he's 4 years younger.

Don’t know what it is with Carlisle supporters waiting to keep shit players!

They managed to get us to a grand position of 11th in a league shiter then shite - get rid of the [censored] lot including Collin whose easily replaceable and get some actual footballers in.

At least we’re not Stockport

Liddle has been too error-prone this season - his distribution especially has been poor, with too many simple passes finding their way to the opposition. This wont have gone unnoticed by SP

Wee bit harsh blaming Liddle for the fact that we didn't get promoted. No shortage of others who could have done better.
If you are Gary Liddle where do you do if you are released by Carlisle? I think he would have stayed for 35k for 1 more year. As a squad player he would have been worth that

Hes hardly a 'shit' player, hes been a decent servant to us over the last few years, fair enough he might now be starting to show his age, but he certainly hasn't been 'shite' as you so poetically put it. And to be honest if you had said we would finish 11th at the start of the season then most people would have taken that all day long, be bloody careful what you wish for my friend!!

I always find this annual thread really interesting.

We complain or agree with average league 2 players being released so that we can replace them with other average league 2 players.

We're not going to get rid of Gary Liddle and replace him with some incredible right back, are we? We weren't going to release Adam Collin and replace him with Keiran Westwood.

I'm not saying we should just keep the players we have but most teams that sit on this merry-go-round end up with much of a muchness in terms of players that replace those let go.

Players like Devitt or Adams are the ones that (should) get you promotion and you pay more for them.

That’s the problem though isn’t it - we get rid of these players and we now get even worse.

Not that long ago we had Graham, Garner, Bridges, Lubo, Murphy, Westwood, Harte etc

Players we have now are totally shite compared. It’s an embarrassment to be even discussing keeping a clart player like Liddle. However I’ve feeling we will get even bloody worse where we will be complaining we haven’t got a Liddle or a Bennett which shows you the complete decline of the club and the shambles/embarrassment that it is.

At least we’re not Stockport

Come on Mullen , Liddle's a really decent player.
Sure he's not Premier League standard but he's played a lot of games in L1 and done well and done well for us.
He's perhaps getting on a bit nowadays and maybe not had a great end to the season but I think to call him clart is desperately unfair.

Wouldn’t say there’d have been much difference between Liddle and Murphy tbh.

There's only one way of life and that's your own!!!

I’m not an owner - but I could put the same amount in as Mr Patty I suppose.

I’m talking as a supporter whereby we’re expected to pay more, I know inflation, for a much inferior product.,the players(team) we have now are no where near the team we had then.

You need better players than Liddle, even to get promotion out of this league.

At least we’re not Stockport

You are comparing the players we have now to when those players were at their peak for us, so yes the current players aren't as good as those who nearly got us promoted to the championship, it's a stupid comparison, the same as how Jamie Devitt isn't going to be challenging for Ballon D'Or anytime soon, but they are competitive in the league they play in.

We finished 22nd in D3 the season before we signed Murphy, and 17th, 22nd and 23rd the 3 seasons after he arrived, so it's not like he was a world class defender joining an outstanding team is it ?

We were in the conference when we signed Westwood and that was to be the understudy for Glennon. So again he was a prospect.

What's to say we won't be able to sign anyone who can develop into players of that calibre, other than that it doesn't suit your view of everything being sh*t all the time ?

Apologies for comparing players in a relatively successful team to the drivel we’ve had the last 5 seasons.

You’re right though - there is no comparison.

There is no comparison because they shouldn't be compared.

It's nice to see your usual optimism for the season ahead though.
