Gordon Staniforth - £120k in 1979. Equates to £425k in today's money.

McKirdy hasn't had much experience at this level apart from some loan games so you never know how he will do. He could do great with a pre season in him. He seems worth a go.

If he bangs in 20 goals I don't care what his height is but let's face it even if he gets near ten by January he'll be away for 85K before deadline day.

So why mention it in the first place wukkie, and by the way that converter makes your cock out to be 2 inches.

Mullen is a virgin.

pedals wrote: Charlie Wyke scored 10 in 57 league starts prior to joining us at the same age, so 5 in 13 starts for McKirdy is hardly a really bad record comparatively. We'd be looking at a near 20 goal striker if he started every league game and continued that record. It might not go that way, of course, but I'm content with this.

And most of those goals were scored when he came on as a sub (26 sub appearances).
It's not surprising how you can interpret statistics in so many different ways.

Was a Villa player, but never made an appearance in a first team game for them.

Still, I hope he proves a success for us, because you never know.

Come on Taffy, it is a forum - all opinions welcome.

As always though only time will tell whether he is a Waring or a Cosgrove, or even a crock like Cullen.

If the lad scores loads of goals he will be well liked, if not then he is a donkey.

How it works.

go back in history and show me a player we have signed that hasn’t had some sort of criticism

Too many to mention.

Even the Offiong signing was met with a bit of excitement from a lot of people as we paid cash for him.

On the plus side he seems to be just what we should be signing, young player with the potential to improve. On the slightly negative side I'm surprised Crewe or Newport weren't in for him. Let's see how he gets on. Another body at least

Has anyone found anything about on any other boards? I can't see anything anywhere

His experience at this level was mainly as a sub so wasn’t picked to play full games but then Thomas wasn’t when he first came to us so that’s not relevant, he will hopefully blossom with regular games as he has good pedigree coming from villa. From vids of him he seems very much like Nadesan in the way he plays, lots of pace and been in the right place at the right time. How he performs will be down to the support he gets from a striking partner and creativity from the team.

Some of the signings of Curle's first summer were met with totally positive comments. How could anyone have grumbled at signing Nicky Adams, Jamie Devitt and Mike Jones at the time?

Abbott splashed out more than GBP100k for Offiong while releasing players worth ten times that...

Jerry Yates turned out OK, below are a few of the comments his signing was greeted with last season:-
(I think this underestimating how tall the signings are is becoming a bit repetitive!)

"I have to admit I've never heard of either of them. Do we need inexperienced kids in our impending relegation battle?"
"What a useless signing that is"
"Not exactly prolific is he"
"Rotherham fans say he’s slow so won’t be the new Asamoah"
"He is not 5'7 he is nearly 5'9"
"I'm not being pedantic here but he only started 7 league games and was subbed in them"

crunchblue wrote: So yeah, proven, glad you agree nobby. And don’t forget He played up front in Doncaster’s promotion winning team. Proven at league one level. He was absolutely shite for us but we’re talking about when a player signs for us.

I’d put Lee Miller in the proven category as well come to think of it.

In the 4 season before he joined us, Paynter had scored 17 goals in 103 games - clearly an awful strike rate (roughly 1 in 6). He was pretty clearly past it, and proved that with an awful season for us. Only once did he ever get 15 goals or more in a season, in 17 years in the game. One of the worst signings we've made this century and clear proof that GK was clueless.

Suffice to say there were some people on here who thought he was good! Crackers.

As an aside - players that we've had who for one reason or another didn't score loads here, but banged them in after leaving us elsewhere:
Murray
Beckford
Norris
Cosgrove
Wells
Madden
Holt (sort of)

etc etc etc. With Hawley and Reeves though, it was the other way round - left us and never quite reached the same heights.

We're overdue. Good luck to Harry, hope he has a good season.

This is how we greet all our signings Will any of the usual suspects admit to making the above points !!!!!!

Fingers crossed there are a couple more strikers to come in we badly need competition up front this season. A taller target man as well.

We all know this lad is gonna be shoved out wide once he gets a game nullifying his natural goalscoring instincts...Pressley wont be changing his tactics...he didnt do it at the end of last season when it was needed.....yet kept his job even though his remit failed.

Think this lad might actually be decent out wide due to his decent pace and some off his goals have been from cutting in on the left.
