Gordon Staniforth - £120k in 1979. Equates to £425k in today's money.

McKirdy hasn't had much experience at this level apart from some loan games so you never know how he will do. He could do great with a pre season in him. He seems worth a go.

If he bangs in 20 goals I don't care what his height is but let's face it even if he gets near ten by January he'll be away for 85K before deadline day.

So why mention it in the first place wukkie, and by the way that converter makes your cock out to be 2 inches.

We'd be looking at a near 20 goal striker if he started every league game and continued that record. It might not go that way, of course, but I'm content with this.

And most of those goals were scored when he came on as a sub (26 sub appearances).
It's not surprising how you can interpret statistics in so many different ways.

Was a Villa player, but never made an appearance in a first team game for them.

Still, I hope he proves a success for us, because you never know.

On the plus side he seems to be just what we should be signing, young player with the potential to improve. On the slightly negative side I'm surprised Crewe or Newport weren't in for him. Let's see how he gets on. Another body at least

Has anyone found anything about on any other boards? I can't see anything anywhere

His experience at this level was mainly as a sub so wasn’t picked to play full games but then Thomas wasn’t when he first came to us so that’s not relevant, he will hopefully blossom with regular games as he has good pedigree coming from villa. From vids of him he seems very much like Nadesan in the way he plays, lots of pace and been in the right place at the right time. How he performs will be down to the support he gets from a striking partner and creativity from the team.

Some of the signings of Curle's first summer were met with totally positive comments. How could anyone have grumbled at signing Nicky Adams, Jamie Devitt and Mike Jones at the time?

Jerry Yates turned out OK, below are a few of the comments his signing was greeted with last season:-
(I think this underestimating how tall the signings are is becoming a bit repetitive!)

"I have to admit I've never heard of either of them. Do we need inexperienced kids in our impending relegation battle?"
"What a useless signing that is"
"Not exactly prolific is he"
"Rotherham fans say he’s slow so won’t be the new Asamoah"
"He is not 5'7 he is nearly 5'9"
"I'm not being pedantic here but he only started 7 league games and was subbed in them"

I’d put Lee Miller in the proven category as well come to think of it.

In the 4 season before he joined us, Paynter had scored 17 goals in 103 games - clearly an awful strike rate (roughly 1 in 6). He was pretty clearly past it, and proved that with an awful season for us. Only once did he ever get 15 goals or more in a season, in 17 years in the game. One of the worst signings we've made this century and clear proof that GK was clueless.

Suffice to say there were some people on here who thought he was good! Crackers.

As an aside - players that we've had who for one reason or another didn't score loads here, but banged them in after leaving us elsewhere:
Murray
Beckford
Norris
Cosgrove
Wells
Madden
Holt (sort of)

etc etc etc. With Hawley and Reeves though, it was the other way round - left us and never quite reached the same heights.

We're overdue. Good luck to Harry, hope he has a good season.

We all know this lad is gonna be shoved out wide once he gets a game nullifying his natural goalscoring instincts...Pressley wont be changing his tactics...he didnt do it at the end of last season when it was needed.....yet kept his job even though his remit failed.

Some Twitter feeds pop up at the top of my phone. Jon Colmans retweet was one so I ended up looking at mckirdys tweets. He doesn't do himself any favours. I don't know the boy so shouldn't judge him on tweets alone but why look to get into a spat with supporters or write something controversial when... 1) you aren't playing well. 2) your team is awful and nearly bottom of the league.
Is it arrogance or ignorance if Youth or just plain stupidity? No wonder managers pull their hair out with him.

On a purely football level, he is a talented boy but he isn't as good as he thinks he is and unless he knuckles down, I fear he is destined for a life in non league with a reputation for having a bad attitude and never fulfilling his talent.

No seemingly about it.

Olomola had to pull him away, which took some doing as McKirdy wasn't having any of being pulled away, then Skelton came over as well.

I saw that with my own eyes from B Stand, other people saying he told a fan in the Paddock to f off and shut their mouth while he was warming up.

There’s a player there in McKirdy but there were reports of attitude problems before he came here, his twittering echos that.

I can remember standing in the Warwick and Richie Foran used to argue with supporters and people used to do it back and just got worse.

I think it’s unfortunate there’s not more education for players from the EFL/FA/PFA.

I wouldn’t like it if someone was coming up to me at the end of the working day calling me, but at the same time, football isn’t like any other industry. I’m not saying it’s right to berate the players and be knobs to them but it has and will happen in football for the rest of time. Think more needs done to educate players in how not to retaliate or similar. Think fans also sometimes cross the line. Some of the stuff I hear shouted is just ridiculous, if it was on a street there’d be a few jabs given out.

Seems we have a team full of gobshites, mostly brought up in a social media generation which means they can’t help but be involved and open themselves up doing so.

Wonder if the club have given any sort of guidance to the players that have recently deleted Twitter accounts.

Good post Mouldy. I don’t agree with fans abusing players, it’s disappointing. However, the club need to give guidance and support to players on stuff like this. He was having a run in with someone in the paddock in the first half when warming up, presumably someone having a pop about the Chelsea game last week. And it’s not the first time he’s had run ins on twitter either. The whole thing seems to stem from I’ll judged social media activity. It should’ve been nipped in the bud by the club before now. The shame of it is he could be a great player for us but needs to realise a free transfer after playing a bit part in one of Carlisle’s worst ever teams isn’t great for his career.

Best way to shut people up is to deliver the goods on the field. The lad has plenty of ability he just needs to grow up and show what he can do.
It’s not exactly unusual for flair players to have flawed personalities eg Gascoigne, Bowles even Zoko. It’s often worth putting up with for the flashes of brilliance that can turn games which is sadly lacking in the team

Someone shouted at Loft when he was going down the tunnel at the end. Loft stopped and stared at the lad before going on his way. The dick was just laughing about it with his mates after Loft had gone.

Didn't hear what was shouted but don't think any of them deserved abuse after yesterday's performance.
