Just done a 'google' on Purkiss.
Reffed a non-league match in 2013 where he sent off five Wingate players and the game had to be abandoned, because they only had six players left on the pitch.
Sounds like he is a bit card happy.

Yes he was the best ref we have us this season at home. Didn’t give any soft free kicks and controlled the game well. I wouldn’t have been happy as an Oldham fan that he only played four minutes at the end as McKirdy managed to waste two mins when he was subbed. However, four minutes was fine by me

Surprisingly not the worst ref we've had this season, although still not great. I thought he kept up with play better than last time we had him.

He still got a few things wrong. I didn't get a clear enough sight of the disallowed goal to comment but he definitely got it wrong giving their 23 a free kick when it should have been given to Hallam, and that was after he'd consulted with his assistant.

According to official website, he was also in charge at Bradford early this season when we lost 3-1.
Sent off Jack Bridge, harshly I thought. Also sent off a Bradford player, and seem to lose control at times. Not the best ref I've ever saw.
Let's see what tomorrow brings.

He booked Jones for a harsh high foot when the Walsall player was ducking pretty low, to be fair though it was his 4th foul of the game after only half an hour.

Agree though, he was a bloody awful ref who spoiled the game with his constant stopping of play. Gave Walsall 3 or 4 free-kicks when advantage would have put them in promising positions. Two blatant dives by no.10 went unpunished aswell.

Some statto should count the number of free kicks the ref gives in a game and average it out over say 10 games. It would show us the ones who are constantly wanting to be the center of attention.

Apologies for jumping the gun a bit, but the ref for Mansfield on Saturday is an unusual choice.
Jarred Gillett, he's an Aussie, refereed plenty of top flight football over there, so should be an excellent ref.
At least he should be in control of the game, unlike some of these refs who've just been promoted from non league level.
