Have to give the club credit in one respect at least they brought in another CH before selling him.

Only 2.5 yr deal, surprising, really rate him or stock piling in case he makes it?

Very sorry to see Jarrad leave but inevitable and who can blame a youngster going to one of the finest old clubs in the country?
I really enjoyed watching him play. He looked very classy on the ball, moved so well with the ball, read the game well, great with both feet and how many CHs can look equally comfortable at FB?
What an opportunity for a 17 year old! Everton was still known as "The School of Soccer Science" when I was a kid in the 70s.
But, as a fan who used to like watching reserve team football back in the day, where it was proper, competitive football, you can't help but worry a bit about this idea of going into an U23 side.
When arguably the most influential manager in modern football in
Guardiola calls U23 football a not good and a real problem you have to be concerned.
I was reading an interview with Man U's Academy boss Nicky Butt who was contrasting 1990s U23 football "in a stadium with 5,000 people watching played with 1st team players" to now.
"We go & play at a training pitch on a..Tuesday afternoon with no fans & no 1st team players."
Maybe I'm getting long in the tooth and don't understand the modern game but surely players need to play meaningful football, particularly at 17?
Playing to win a game that matters where a win bonus means more than a new watch. Playing in games where if you don't get a win, you could relegated and find yourself without a contract, released and without a job.
Just got to hope he shoots this argument down in flames and his natural ability means that the cream will rise to the top.

I read somewhere that players younger than 18 can't be offered deals for 3+ years, I suspect he'll get a new deal once he turns 18 should he impress.

My only real is that players who start playing that early in life in consistent matches often burn out early. For example, alexis Sanchez. I think the same thing will happen to Rashford. Players being protected from that while they're too young and being eased in isn't a bad thing in my opinion.

17 was always the age you could sign a pro deal, not sure that has changed, but maybe its a Premier League/U23 thing.

Would have expected a 4,5 or 6 yr deal if not.

All I can quote is football manager, but once you become a premier league team you can only do up to 3 year deals with u21s as far as I know.

Given the length of the contract, i.d imagine they.ll want him there the rest of this season to indoctrinate him in the Everton way so they can send him out on loan to the championship for a year in the summer then giving them a year to decide whether he's going to make it and get a multi-year proper PL contract or they decide to ditch him and try to get as much of their outlay back from a championship club.

The club/owners are desperate now for cash, so I’d highly imagine this deal has a high up front payment.

The aim of the current owners is to recoup cash, they saw Branthwaite, Henderson and Cosgrove as a way of doing that and staying on. You just have to read their statement on the manager appointment to know their true aims and mentality.

We could of sold for £2 million but would of made no difference to the average supporter as the monies just going into paying debt.

At least we’re not Stockport

Sell everything we’ve got beg borrow and steal the rest pay EWM off... Meaning we can tell DH to [censored] off. (Thinks we’re a lot
more optimistic when we had Patty and Nixon as DofF)

Take admin and let lummys consortium or Laffy get hold of it, take the relegation and start afresh...

Think a few years pain is worth it to get rid of the 3 custodians.

Not bad for a player you didn't rate frank! :-D

Wouldn’t say didn’t rate, didn’t think he was as good as people were making out though. Some of the figures being talked about were ridiculous, as was the bidding war (which didn’t materialise) due to all the big clubs who were allegedly interested.

Good luck to the lad though, hope he does well and makes us a bit more cash!

We would save the best part of 200k a year by getting rid of Clibbins and Holdsworth and cancelling Nixons expense account along with Pattison's entertaining tab.

Then charge the vice presidents 5k a year for the privilege [ Then we.d see how much the likes of that Moxy c8n@u't love the club.]

I was hoping that the only good thing to come out of the transfer would be that the fee would help the BOD move one step closer to the exit but then realised I was kidding myself.

To be fair, this is the kind of trade the club should aspire to so can’t complain-it would in normal circumstances be put in an account for a rainy day, of which there are many.

We will have to wait until the accounts are filed to see where the rump of the cash has gone.Probably the 2020 accounts as I doubt it will be disclosed in the ones about to be filed other than a passing reference.

Good luck to the lad-and let’s hope he fulfils his potential.

Hypothetical question...

If we played Everton in the lendlease at Brunton Park next seas on and he was in the team would you go down to watch him play?

If I was in Carlisle I probably would.

Personally think he will be on loan to a League 1/ Championship side next season.

Well I didn’t go and watch him when he was playing for Carlisle in that fraudulent trophy so I’m not exactly going to go and watch him play for someone else in it.

I meant missed opportunity by the club again to engage with the fans and share their vision and plans. Yes, we were going to lose and of course I don't blame the lad going. My point was more about the lack of communication from the club. Everything we get from them is negative. The club cashed in on a prized asset, we sell other youngsters with great potential so how do the club respond and give us all a reason to believe again? Nowt. Only a depressing interview from our manager.. sorry, head coach, telling us all about how we have no money, hard to attract players, losing out on lots of targets etc.
All we can dream of is a change at the top. Without one, the club just plod on making the same mistakes.

On another note, on the Everton forum, the signing hardly registers. They aren't excited at all by him, many of them think he will be just lost in their system while a few others just use the thread to slag off cumbrians and our accents! Oh, the irony.

Everton amounted to losses of nearly 112 million last year, the signing of a 17 year old teenager for what for them is a modest outlay is like small print to them ,headline for us. It's sad how football as changed throughout the years, unfortunately we may not here of or see little of Jarrad for a few years,he is now one of many in a similar situation in a top flight team.

A well known and respected local sports journalist that I meet up with for a coffee every now and again. Although he doesn't cover or support them he has a strong interest in Everton due to where he was born.

And what he told me pretty much marries up with what an old friend and Everton shareholder/ season ticket holder told me within 20 minutes of the deal being announced on Monday.

It may all be a big secret up in Carlisle but it certainly isn't in Liverpool hence Phillips finally getting round to posting that tonite.

So it's not a £1.5M fee plus add ons, it's £750K, which could rise to £1.5M if certain targets are met.
Bearing in mind these are probably appearance related, it is much more reaistic than was suggested.
The £750K "base fee" payment will also be over the duration of the contract, so previous point about this not being the panacea to the big debt reduction applies.

CW the details I was given are that the 750k is an immediate payment not staggered [ Another club Southampton? actually offered a larger base payment but wanted to pay it over 5 years ] the other 750k comes from a series of triggers [ 1st team debut 25.50 and 100 appearances and caps at the various international levels up to a full cap.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested anywhere that the deal had reached the 1.5m plus add ons sort of level

Yeah, Melbourne said that about the base payment, so likely you are both correct, but principle point remains.
It was said by quite a few that the fee was £1.5M plus add ons, and always seemed way too optimistic to me.

The figures being bandied about was what I said, that was what the club were after, obviously negotiations can take these figures higher or lower. The main point I was stressing was that the club were adamant they wanted £750k up front.

It’s the definition of add-ons that needs clarified.

The rumour going round was a lump up front, followed by some staggered payments THEN clauses for appearances for Club/Country were separate - These being of some serious value to us if they were achieved!

As usual, we’ll likely never know the full details...

There's bound to be a sell on clause of some kind.

Imagine if he hit the big time and was sold for £50m and we didn't get a share!

All depends on the player now. But if he goes on and becomes a first-team regular Everton have got a good deal at £1.5m

It would surely be ineptitude of the highest order if we haven’t got at least a 20% sell on fee.

10% will do when they sell him for for a record fee for a centre back for £100m

That does require him to be sold, for more than £1.5m. Because of the rules on foreign players, and God knows what Brexit will mean, English players are like gold dust. If they think he can get near the first team squad they will hold him for as long as possible

Not saying Everton would do us, but who keeps tabs on things like when a trigger is reached. How do CU know if hes picked for certain games that impact on a payment to us.

I’m fairly sure someone within the Club will have a nice big chart with all the possible clauses we have for several Players...
