Local things you miss. was created by pacirv
For me it’s the Saturday sports special paper that the news and star used to do, remember waiting at newsagents at 6pm on a sat for the paper to come in. It had full match report on uniteds game, all the results and league tables plus local team results and an inside United column with articles on United players etc. All within an hour of the games finishing. Mind you that was before all this extra time and referees discretion stuff.

Don't recall many Botchergate nightclubs apart from Talk of The Border and a lesser extent Mood from back in the day can't say ever seen queue either.

Pagoda was just off Botchergate - think it held about 1,700 and you had to q at 10pm with a tie and trousers to get in.

Just not old enough to go to either 101 or Melody Club so that why I never included them.
Botchergate consisted of Cumberland,Cally,Albion,Crown, Earl Grey and TOTB as a club hardly a nightclub hotbed.
Clubs away from there Malt,Wheel, Flopps, Pagoda, (Shaws) and Micks II (lit up dancefloor
) I may have missed a few like Buskers etc but they appeared later on when I cared even less.

When The Crescent was more than just a fast food precinct.
I remember Manders Paints and Sporthaus on there.
As a boy I loved a look in Sporthaus on a match day after getting the bus in from Longtown with my mates.
Then an excited walk down Warwick Road to BP for the game.

Harry, big CUFC fan, in the days when Binns HQ was in Sunderland the board of directors visited Carlisle branch, at the time the lift had a notice saying '' Max. Persons 8'', Harry crammed about 15 in the lift and was sacked.
Next day, returned to work and carried on as if nothing had happened.
Or so I heard, alledgedly.

Yes the good old Sports Special, which for some reason was printed on green paper. Used to deliver a few from Maxfields in Eldon Drive, calling in the Arroyo on the way round to try to sell some to anyone in at that time of night.
I remember a bit from a report of a reserve game. Carlisle only managed two shots in the first half, one from (forgotten his name) which went for a throw in and one from (Geoff) Hill which hit the referee. Made me laugh.

Drings bookshop, chips and gravy from Robertsons on Lowther Street, the Cally before it was refurbished, the smell of hops from the brewery, the Pie & Pea Shop just past 2am on a Sunday morning, the old Market, Armstrong's bakers on Castle Street.
Our supporters in the Waterworks End, the old scoreboard, the bloke in the white jacket who used to put the scores up at half-time, the tall floodlights, the supporters shop in Old Post Office Court.
Anyway, in no particular order:
