Mervyn Day had never managed until Carlisle.
I'd never heard of Mick Wadsworth.
They all did not too bad really. I hope Beech is a great success and wish him all the luck in the world. Taking a chance on someone who has been coaching in the lower leagues for the last decade or more might not be the worst idea in the world.
Win the next 2 and we might be alright...
Simpson was a quality player, Day had an excellent career, both good pro's. Wadsworth was an England coach for Bobby Robson at Italia90 - thats the difference to a mediocre player and sacked asst manager at Rochdale!
Being good at football and being a success as a manager aren't the same thing. Booby Charlton and Bobby Moore were crap at being managers. Whether or not Simpson was a "quality player" is not really relevant to anything.

Turning to coaching, he worked with the U12s at Bury before impressing as the club’s youth team manager. He subsequently returned to former club, Rochdale, to work with the youth team, and he also enjoyed a month as caretaker manager in their 2011-12 League One campaign. He was promoted to assistant manager in 2013, a role he held at Spotland for nearly six years.

Did Paul Simpson gain back to back promotions for Carlisle, did Mervyn Day not lead us to promotion and auto windscreens victory, did Wadsworth not gain promotion and first Wembley appearance?
Its relevent.

He's going to have his work cut out mind and needs to get off to a good start or the fans will soon be on his back.
