Looks like the 1 year deal only policy is over.

Also looks like we may have actually paid a fee for a player.

2 shocks.

'Its pleasing to see the club supporting longer contracts , because that gives us time to improve and grow and i think that is important to everybody'

Beech said, in his statement following this signing ..is this now a change in policy ( or a one off)

I watched Aldershot V Barrow when I was down in London in September.

I remember this lad as he was massive, came on in the 2nd half and gifted Barrow their goal with an air kick - Webster esqe.

Good luck to him!

At least we’re not Stockport

Anything a player achieves before or after they are a Carlisle United player is very nice for them but all that matters to me is how they perform for the Mighty Blues.

A now deleted tweet from a Derby fan who hadnt realised it was a full deal.

Impressive. Covered a few youth games. I like him. I think if we stay in championship we will see him a lot next season. You have a good'n. Aldershot fans sad to lose him by all accounts

I know - I was there

I’m just hoping it’s not another Mellish situation where we go for a young conference defender, hyped up, that’s been no way near good enough.

We will just have to wait n see.

I think this is going to be the plan for the next few years especially under Beech and the current owners.

Get develop young players in the hope one becomes a star to make money. The overall position of the side isn’t important, as long as there don’t go down. We might get lucky and earn some coin but without some proven players alongside I doubt promotion will be achieved anytime soon.

At least we’re not Stockport

Mellish has been played out of position most games and I wouldn't write the lad off yet he is young and could still be a good player

Exactly, all these kids brought in are very much a work in progress and you can't expect the finished article after 6 months.

All are a risk but as fans, the very least we can do is show a bit of patience, something which at times seems a commodity that is lacking on here.

Mellish himself said if he played 15-20 games this Season (He’s appeared in 16 so far) he’d be chuffed, shows he clearly didn’t expect to be an automatic choice and was still learning his trade...

Exactly zebby, I think he’s improving slightly since Beech has taken charge as have most of the defenders, I feared he’d never make it after the Dulwich game but I hope the lad lives up to his potential.

Didn’t Beech say his preferred formation was to use WB’s?

Next Season could we see this:

G Jones, Hayden, Hunt, Mellish, Iredale,

Jones & Iredale playing more forward than the other 3. Very balanced that?

And he’s had 4 months of being coached by Steven Pressley, so probably regressed over that time. Perhaps we will start seeing the best of him between now and the end of the season with some proper coaching (I hope).

Seems obvious enough the 12 month contract policy was actually Pressley's philosophy. It's too fashionable to blame Holdsworth however, isn't it?

New manager = a new approach to signings - clearly.

I was probably expecting a centre-forward to be top priority if I'm honest - but with the way we've defended all season, you can't really blame Beech for signing a central defender.

Seems like a promising enough signing to me (especially as we've paid a fee, which shows a little ambition) - especially with Watt coming in to give us more options in midfield.

If we bring in a striker or two next week then it could be quite an enjoyable second half to the season. Is a 16 point gap to the playoff positions too much to make up?

I’d be surprised if Iredale is still here next season, unless he miraculously turns things round by churning up a consistent run of good performances. Still think Mellish has a bit to probe too, but he’s more likely to be kept than Iredale imo.

I expect a large majority of signings from the Pressley legacy will be chucked out in the summer.

Well, I for one are willing to give Chris Beech a fair crackof the whip, improvement in performance, seems to sorting out the wheat from the chaff as players go and couple of promising signings, I am confident we will see a FB and CF before the deadline.

That was another thing that annoyed me. Players only getting 12 month contracts while Pressley was talking about how it might take several years to turn the club around. How does that work when you've got to start completely from scratch with a new team every year?

So you would prefer Webster,NKP,Bridge ect to be on 3 year contracts then?
They are 1 yr with options for club to extend to 2 yrso basically if your rubbish your out if you do well you get another year but quite possibly another contract offer

Players will often take less money for longer term contracts (more security ) . That means to get good players you either offer them good contracts on short deals or reasonable contracts on longer deals. When you try to sign players on bad wages on short deals . You are not going to get a good player as often , you may get a player using us a stepping stone at best.

Would have thought a goal scorer and a left back would have been the priority, we've now got 6 centre half's. If we want to get the points we so desperately need if I remember right, you need to score goals. Good luck to the lad though hope he does well.
