Does nobody think that the board said 1 year deals because they didn’t think Presley would last until the end of the season but couldn’t be bothered to do the interviews so put down this policy so if Presley signs a bunch of duffers we can rid of them in the summer. Also if this succession plan happens in the summer and we have a bit of cash to spend we’re not going to want to spend money on releasing players. Makes sense to me

Nonsense.

Plenty of decent players sign one year deals at plenty of Clubs...

That’s true. But we missed out on good players who wanted two years. Paying poor wages is also a massive factor

Aye Jamie Devitt (who would have signed a 2 year deal) looks like Iniesta compared to the present midfielders.

Don’t quote me on this but I think we might be selling one of our centre halves soon pacirv.

It's nice that we've signed a player that another team wanted to (but couldn't) keep hold of because of how he was performing. We haven't really done that (perhaps Mellish aside) since the summer when Devitt & co joined. On paper, this ticks all the boxes - a young player who has been performing well, will improve and develop further and then hopefully be sold on for a profit further down the line. That seems like a sensible business model and one fans would get behind. This won't always be 100% successful - for every Wyke there will be an Alex Marrow who doesn't make it - and we'll need experience in there, but far more sustainable than handing out two year deals to has beens. Hopefully we see more signings like this. Over to Hunt to have a shocker now :-)

Look at Hayden when he signed and everyone went he must be rubbish if he’s been on loan at Stourbridge last season and when we brought in Webster everyone said we were getting a championship level centre half who will Marshall out defence and be our rock and I was one tbf. Now our best centre half pairing is an 18 year old from Wigton and Hayden who was playing way below Hunt. Signings can be very unpredictable at this level and the reason they’re at this level is because they can’t do it every week because they’re inconsistent and that’s why they’re not playing any higher. I trust beech and I think he’s Got very good potential

He's not even 18 year , his 18th isn't till June.

A strong defence is crucial to an attack, If your forwards can trust the players behind them, This allows them to push further forward and take mores risks .

Richie Bennett is another example, along with Mellish.

I agree, though, that signing players with promise from lower leagues is a good approach. It’s just a pity this club has such a dreadful track record with their development once they’re here: Nathan Buddle, Josh Gillies, Nahki Wells, Paddy Madden etc etc

Bit bugging that madden and Wells both went on to become good players. Shows its the training, not the scouting. We've also had McCarron, Cosgrove etc, so we're not doing too bad
