The wind is quite amazing down south. My van accelerated on the motorway to 80mph with the wind behind it in the time it normally takes to get to 50mph. It's been doing 80 mpg heading north as well.

Hope everyone takes care and stays safe.

Yes-I drove down there a couple of hours ago as I have some fields next to the school.

The Tyne is well over the Bywell road-looks like the Mississippi with a load of water coming down.Couple of nutters tried to drive through it in cars-they are probably at North Shields now.

It's peaked in Appleby now, thank goodness.

Unfortunatelyt he main bridge has been shut, even for pedestrians. Last time that happened it was shut for a good few days until the bridge footings could be inspected, fingers crossed that it opens soon this time .

There has been some flooding and water in homes but not as bad as storm Desmond.

Police say evacuate - EA say fine as water levels dropping - I know who I’d listen too though.

It’s the river higher up that’s the problem - river is going at some speed.

Looking dodgy around botcherby Bridge area.
Hopefully at its worst now, looks like it will be a very near miss for the majority of us living round here.
Personally I will never have any real confidence in the flood defences until that bloody bridge is replaced!

Eden bridge seems to act like a damn, in heavy rain fall like this , saw pictures of it earlier , the levels on either side a significantly different , something needs to be done to ease the flow under it .

Is Botcherby bridge the same, hopefully the levels have peaked, any more flooding on Warwick road and questions will be asked about the millions spent on flood defences.

The issues is the climate (man made or not ) is changing rapidly and were now at the reactive stage to events like this rather than prevention stage, We can build defences but we can't change the water table under our feat and stop water rising from the ground. It's past the stage where we can throw 10s of millions at the problem we now need to throw hundreds of millions.

Time to replace it. Happening too much. Sod the cost and disruption. Rather have a new bridge which lets water flow under better than the current one which adds to the problem every time there’s bad weather...

I saw some footage yesterday of Botcherby Bridge it looked like the bank has been dug out so widening the actual river before it enters the bridge, but it's still overtopped with the volume of water as the bridge itself acts as a funnel.
