Goalden Generation Book was created by bruntonpete
About two years ago, I started work on a project called 'The Goalden Generation'. The idea was to try and reunite old friends who played in the same teams in local amateur football in and around Carlisle.
The local leagues dated back to the early 1960s and it was quite a task to try and find out about the teams and the players from those times. Fortunately, word spread and more and more people came forward with tales, anecdotes and photographs. It was amazing to see how fondly those days are remembered and how local football helped form friendships that have lasted a lifetime.

My dad and I decided it might be a good idea to write/produce a book to compile all these memories. It has been a work in progress for the last year or so but we are pleased to say that the book is to be published around Easter time.
The book is essentially an ode to all those who played or participated from the formation of the league up until the 1980s. It is a collection of stories, memories and pictures from those times and a snapshot of local football history.

It is not too late to add to though. I have approx. another month to gather more information to include within its pages. This thread is a shout out to anyone who would like to contribute. If you would like to share a memory of your own, or a story of a family member or friend who played or took part in local football or even just a photograph or two (with captions) it is not too late.
A lot of the focus has been on Harraby, Upperby and Botcherby as that is where the original project was centred around but we would welcome any contributions from all areas of the city and any teams that played in the Carlisle and District leagues. The more the merrier.

If you would like to contribute (or know someone who might wish to) please get in touch.
