Ok a bit of fun for everyone, name the top 10 matches you've seen watching United.
Doesn't have to be the best game of football you've ever seen, it might be the worst, or you could remember it for something other than the football. Again it doesn't necessarily mean a promotion or relegation game, just particular games that stand out in the memory more than most.
The only rule is you had to have attended that particular match.

Here goes here's my top 10:

10. Sheff Wed (H) January 1972 2-2
Where it all started for me as a kid, cant remember anything about the game, although the experience stuck with me this was it, a United fan for life!!
9. Fulham (H) March 1975 FA Cup Quarter Final 0-1
Even though I attended quite a lot of the first Division games, this one always sticks in the mind, quarter finals of the FA Cup, playing a second division team who was lying 15th in their Division, there was no doubt about it we were going all the way to Wembley, or so I thought?? This was the first time (and not the last) that I had that horrible totally pissed off feeling, and it lasted all the following week, think I did say at the time I was never going back, god knows how many times I've said that over the last 4 decades.
8. Southampton (H) 1977 0-6
Wasn't like the Fulham game, because I'm not sure if the Carlisle team actually turned up, absolutely battered from minute one, even United fans were cheering when the last 3 went in.
7. Leeds (H) November 2007 3-1
Ahh these games are why we all love footie so much, up strolls the league leaders, unbeaten since god knows when, a full house and two late goals to finish them off, sorry 'Carlisle White', but it was a lot of fun wasn't it LOL.
6. Newcastle (H) December 1983 3-1
I was gutted having to miss (was working) the previous seasons 2-0 mauling of the bar codes, but this more than made up for it, was even funnier when a Geordie moron tried to attack his teams goalkeeper.
5. Scarborough (A) December 1988 1-0
Absolutely battered for 83mins, I don't think we actually managed a shot on target, so it was kind of ironic that they 'scored' for us, all hail Stevie Richards!!! 3rd Round draw was disappointing though Liverpool at home!!!
4. Birmingham (Wembley) 1995 Score didn't matter,
Nothing more to add, just to say the "mighty Blues at Wembley" a day I will never forget.
3. Darlington (A) March 2006 5-0
After David Hodgson comments about going to give them a 'footballing lesson' then how sweet it was for the team and the 3,500 in the away end, probably my best away day ever, now how did that chant go....."Hodgson Hodgson whats the score"
2. Rochdale (A) AWS Semi Final March 1995 1-2
Well this was it after all those years at last we were going to Wembley, 4-1 up from the first leg, pubs in and around Rochdale absolutely bouncing with Blues, utter hysteria with the Twin Towers only 90mins away. 20 mins into the game and the mood had changed dramatically, 0-2 down and hanging on for dear life. Then thankfully Deggsy Mountfield restored a bit of hope, Rochdale had used up their energy/ideas in that first half 2nd half they were spent, this was it, at last "Were the Greatest Carlisle United and were off to Wemberrlee".....happy days.
1. Plymouth (H) May the 8th 1999 2-1
Don't think there are that many people could remember who we were playing that day, but what a day (in the end) it was bit like winning the league the FA Cup the League Cup and the European Cup all rolled into one......All hail Sir Jimmy.

Thanks for that Bry. Not the best of football days for me - never realised how many people had my phone number until then.
Without the same level of detail, I would say;
Preston away 3 - 1 Not sure why this one was special, but defo my all time favourite game
Jimmy Glass game
Birmingham Auto windscreens
Lincoln promotion game at home (even though we lost)
Hartlepool away one boxing day in Knighton's reign (think it was 5 - 1
Colchester Auto windscreens
Cardiff 4-3 Rafferty game
Scunthorpe 3 - 1 Thorpe away game
Cambridge away first time on sky (personal reaons, best away day with son)
Middlesborough home in Div 1 - no idea why

Should really add the Howson game, just for Lummy - no idea so many peple could turn their phone off at the same time.

Not gonna go thru the list as they will no doubt be the same as everyone else

But one game for me that not many of you will not have on your list

Cheltenham at home ........... The day the impossible dream died and we were finally relegated ........ But not a single person in BP that day turned on the Team, The Manager or The Owner and that was the day that I knew we.d go straight back up again.

Great thread to lighten the mood.
So many for so many reasons, but here goes:
1 Wembley final v Birmingham - never thought I would get there as vowed not to go there unless it was to watch us.
2 Rochdale away second leg - wow we have got there, and the whole of Cumbria driving home in the p***ing rain.
3 Aldershot in play off semi second leg - Matty Glennons penalty saves when we looked down and out.
4 Stevenage play off final - we are back.
5 Bury boxing day 1994 - lock out and we turned over one of our main challengers.
6 Scunthorpe away - Thorpey!
7 Plymouth - Jimmy Glass!
8 Sunderland away in cup - Darren equalises right in front of us at Roker.
9 Darlington away 5-0 - didn't seem to matter how we played at the time as we were always going to score and always win.
10 Preston 0 Carlisle 3 - feared for life that day, mayhem after game as the nob enders were not chuffed at all.

If you're guessing my age you are well out - I have just got a terrible memory!
My mum took me to my first game (my dad had no interest in football) in 1968 - 0-0 against Charlton Athletic.
Must have put me off, as my next game was our first in Division 1 v Tottenham. 3 out of 3, easy this, we were going to win the league!!!!
I was hooked.

Games where we’ve done enough to stay in the football league by the skins of our teeth will never make my top 50 never mind top 10. So the Glass match misses out.

in no particular order...

Mansfield (A) 2006. A last minute goal to secure promotion, doesn’t get much better than that!

Leeds (H) 2007. A packed Brunton park, coming from behind and ending their unbeaten run. What a team.

Leeds (A) 2008 playoffs. The home game soured it obviously, but on its own what a performance. That season was the best CUFC team I’ve seen.

Darlington (A) 2006. As mentioned already in the thread.

Northampton (A) 2006. Top of the table clash, big performance, big win.

Brentford at Wembley 2011. Winning at wembley was obviously going to be in it.

Stevenage playoff final. Probably the most stressful game I’ve watched, but what a feeling at full time, felt like we’d finally turned the corner after years of shit. And what a celebration after it.

Notts County (A) 2016. Last game of the season, meaningless match, but won 5-0 and pulled a Worldie in Nottingham that night.

Liverpool (A) 2015. That moment when Asamoah equalised at the Kop. Taking them all the way to pens, Gillespie saving the penalty of the soon to be second most expensive footballer of all time. Great night.

Sheff Utd (H) 2012. Just loved this game, the football was great, good players on both teams. Lee Miller, JP McGovern and Zoko ripping Harry Maguire a new one. quality game, quality attacking.

There’s probably loads more I’ve missed out, but here are 10 of mine (not really in any order).

10. Huddersfield at home Autoglass Trophy. Looked like we were going to turn them over. Was the start of a good few years anyway. Can still remember Brunton Park was rocking that night. Screamer from Joe Joyce.

9. Ilkeston town FA Cup defeat. Wasn’t fun at the time, but bit of a badge of honour I think to witness one of the lowest points in the club’s history.

8. Darlo 5-0. Beat of needle before this game with them lot, put them to the sword. Most complete Carlisle performance I can remember.

7. Shrewsbury away. Brian Wake hat trick. One of the great away games.

6. Northampton away 3-0 win on a Friday night. Weathered the storm 1st half hour, then went in 1-0 up. Bridges pure class again, then scored probably my favourite CUFC goal.

5. Aldershot playoff leg at home. Typical Carlisle made hard work of it. Great to knock them clowns out in the way we did tho.

4. Leeds away play off leg. Thrilling game, end to end. Great atmosphere. Occasion didn’t get to us. Leeds the better team over 2 legs, but we were outstanding at Elland Rd.

3. Sheff Utd 3-2 at home. Missed the first 2 goals queuing up to get in (usual p1ss up in a brewery at BP...) We had a great team then and got some good results again bigger teams (then some crap ones against lesser sides).

2. Birmingham at Wembley. Lads did is proud and was absolutely gutted we lost.

1. Jimmy Glass.

There’s loads more, but there’s 10 for you.

Speak for yourself, I called them all useless shites! I didn’t

1. Birmingham at Wembley: I was 11 it was an amazing experience, even though we lost, people talking about the game for days before, 1st long distance away game.

2. Colchester at Wembley: another amazing day and we won.

3. Mansfield 3-2. The game was manic and included a last minute penalty. I knew we would go down as other results went against us but knew we’d be back.

4. Preston 3-0, I was only 10 but can remember it like yersrdsy, their plastic pitch and their sent off player coming back on for another go.

5. Rochdale lost 6-0. Under Atkins we were awful but our supporters sang all game.

6. Plymouth jimmy glass - has to be up there.

7. Stockport 0-0, good night and another trip to Wembley

8. Brentford Wembley

9. Leeds 3-1 - home game thrashing a so called big side.

10. Liverpool away - always wanted to go to anfield and we have it a good go.

At least we’re not Stockport

On that note, Doncaster away last game of the season when we got relegated. Unbrlievable atmosphere.

Was at all these games Bluebry apart from the Sheff Wed in 1972 and agree all up there on my list. My personal number 1 being the 3-1 victory over Leeds. That was a very talented squad which should really have got us into the Championship. I'll add Peterborough 1-4 Carlisle in 1989 - Brent Hetherington leading the line and Mick Graham scoring!!

All you lot saying the Jimmy Glass game are daft!

One of the worst 93mins of my Blues watching life, we looked nervous on the pitch and there was an undercurrent of serious mischief towards Knighton in the air off it.

The last minute was decent, hence it would win any ‘moment’ Thread at a canter, but best games? Give over...

And wasn't it great to listen to it this afternoon with Dereck at the mike warts mistakes and all but still a hundred times better than Phillips and his "i.m much better than this shithole don't you know" attitude and even that tosser Corry who seems to have disappeared up his own backside couldn't spoil it.

Winning 2-1 at The Keepmoat in 2007.
I'd previously only taken my young son to 2 dire games at Oldham.
But we arrived early, scoffed a KFC, got seated in a sparkly new stadium and watched us come from behind to win 2-1 with Karl Hawley curling in a worldy right in front of us.
He was hooked.

Some cracking games already been mentioned. I'm not going to go back very far, cos I've had a drink and can't be bothered to check dates so in no particular order. . .

10 - I've got to put the Jimmy Glass game in. Totally get it was a pretty awfull match to watch, but that contributed to the end result really. Standing there in total despair thinking that we couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo, totally drained, convinced we were down. Then the ultimate high, so unexpected, so unbelievable, can't be forgotten.

9 I loved the match away at Burton, felt a bit drained at the end that we only got a draw but the guts and energy we showed that night as a team, it was great to watch.

8 Brighton 1-2 Carlisle 9/10 A total worldie from Ian Harte and the winner late on from Gaz Madine, against a good Brighton team. I had a ringside seat, unfortunately our fans needed telescopes to see anything from their stand.

7 Loved that game at Hartlepool when Painter equalised and pools tried to wind us all up only for Miller and Jabo to shut them up.

6 Beating Barnet at Morecambe in 2005 in the cup. We had been flooded out of our ground and no one knew if all the impetus had been washed away, but we showed that day we were still on track.

5 Agree about that 6-0 loss at Rochdale, the result was dreadful. I was sat near the lad drumming and after the fourth went in he stopped. The bloke next to him shouted at him "don't stop we are Carlisle" and we just got louder and louder.

4 Match at Huddersfield when Ben Marshall scored in front of thousands of Carlisle fans. Always enjoyed games at the McAlpine, or whatever its called this season.

3 Chester away, another match where everything seemed against us, down to 9 men and the ref we all dreaded , crikey can't think of his name now but he was a scary fella. Standing right behind the goal it was wonderful.

2 Wycombe v Carlisle 2014, we lost but for personal reasons it was one of the best days ever, and one I'll never forget.

1 The next one. The next one where we can all go as fans and enjoy supporting our team again, with no worries, that will be one we will all remember, win or lose that will be one of the best.

In our promotion to Division one season, Sunderland at home, an evening game with an electric atmosphere.
Then Sunderland away only a few days later, crazy atmosphere, standing packed among the Sunderland fans in a ground that physically shook and like it would fall down any minute.

Fulham away 1994 was amazing, had to pinch myself it was that good. Late eighties / early nineties any away win was a collectors item, but this was something else. Jimmy Hill was there and said it was the best performance he’d ever seen at that level (us not Fulham).

Find this pretty tough, to be honest majority of these are not there based on being our best performances and missed out many better games, more I remember these games vividly from the past even years later.

Gillingham H 1991 - 0-4 defeat
for all the wrong reasons, 10 years old, had been dragged down a couple of years hating football....this game popped up at a vicious time for the club. Game was shocking, crowd was amazing in its very nasty attack on everything that night. Hateful, cruel, aggressive and very passionate...…...the moaning thesedays had 'nothing' on that night.....first time I showed interest, Middlemass went next day I think.

Rotherham H 1994 - 3-1 win
League cup game of our title winning season, was game which for me defined our season. 1-0 down first leg, another goal down by half time. an massive comeback with a rabid crowd cheering it on.....that dogged dig in and work hard with fan backing approach just carried on from here.

Hull A 1995 - 5-2 win
A rare highlight in a crap season. I remember this mostly because we were superb with the Reeves/Smart partnership, I remember this because I still firmly believe all these years later Knightons biggest cock-up was not bringing in smart at this time for the season, we looked very good at this time, had we kept this for season I doubt we'd gone down, doubt Wadsworth would have gone, doubt club would have collapsed.

Tranmere H 1996 - 1-0 win
A gritty FA cup game vs a strong Tranmere side where we played well and won.

Blackpool H 2001 - 1-0 win
Was thinking of putting the previous 6-0 defeat at Rochdale on list, but this sticks out more. We were a shocking side that season with zero investment from club. Atkins had us now set as a basic, but hard working side digging out points and survival was looking possible. We'd just got smashed the previous game but the fans that Dale game were superb...the players followed it up in this a hard working 1-0 win vs a very strong Blackpool side, probably kept us up.

Torquay H 2003 - 2-0 win
12 defeats in a row, bottom in December with only 5 points, things starting to get better since we brought in players like Cowan and Gray a couple of games previous but results not showing from performance then this game arrived. the sheer relief when that 2nd goal flew into the net of finally seeing a win after months.

Mansfield A - 3-2 win
My personal favourite game. We were about to lost Gray to a total injust inept FA appeal board decision for a Unfair red card at Orient. 3 games to go, had to win all 3 or relegated. A Mansfield side away who were in play-offs and it looked tough for a draw on paper. Club knew this had to set the bar for the other 2 games without our best player. Went out the blocks and dominated the first 20 mins going 2-0 up before they battered us for rest of half to go 2-2. We came out dug in, got better took lead and then held on due to a last gasp pen save at the death. My personal favourite atmosphere, our fans were superb, their fans next to us were superb. game was good, drama superb.

Aldershot A 2004 - 5-0 win
More personal than anything else. In our conference season was on confguide forum and that was where non league fans just poked fun at whichever ex league side had dropped and us and York were some sort've 'axis of evil' at the time. after weeks of them telling Carlisle fans our good start would not last and the better established non league sides would beat us we had this game......and crushed Aldershot from first to last minute. Then afterwards the ground was attacked by about 200 skin-heads and coach was marched out of Aldershot surrounded by a load of riot police who battered and hit anything in way for us to escape.

Boston A 2006 - 5-0 win
My fave game for sheer performance. Went there and just crushed them, the 4-3-3 just starting to click with Holmes, Hawley and bridges working well. I think up until then Steve Evans had hardly lost a home match with Boston but we smashed it.

Leeds H 2007 - 3-1 win
For size of the win, plaing a side who I grew up with playing champions league games and huge premiership games, now we had them on a level playing field with a full house and played well on the day deserving to beat a side unbeaten up to that moment.

Aye one of the best Away Days going was Fulham, cheers when Planes flew over etc, then less than four years later one of the worst Away Days when they hammered us 5-0 on Easter Monday 98 when it could’ve been 10. They were on the start of their roll upwards, Peschisolido scored a hat trick and Beardsley was top drawer. Bracewell subbed as it was too easy. A horrid game that...

The last minute was decent, hence it would win any ‘moment’ Thread at a canter, but best games? Give over...

Wasn't an undercurrent, more open hostility.
I'm was B Stand season ticket holder then, and can openly remember one lad with us was preparing to chuck his seat at him.
And then Jimmy scored.

"We were about to lost Gray to a total injust inept FA appeal board decision for a Unfair red card at Orient"

You mean the game where Gray punched the player (John Mackie I think) who'd just fouled him!? We were a man up for about 2 seconds. The mood amongst the away fans was definitely one of 'what an idiot' rather than 'unfair red card'

Speaking of Orient, most of my picks have been taken but I don't think there's been a mention of Orient away in March 2008. 3-0. Best away performance I've ever witnessed. Could have been 5-6 without flattering us. Lummy's best game for the club in my opinion.
The previous weekend Westwood had olayed a blinder to earn a 2-2 draw at Swindon where we hadn't played well. At Orient he barely did a thing!

Difficult as so many games seen. Tempted to add memorable bad games but too many to mention so tried to go for good ones - again there are more than this. Significant that most are a long time ago:

1 CUFC 1 Luton 0 Mar 1971 League 2nd Division - first ever game!
2 CUFC 1 Tottenham H 0 Aug 1974 League 1st Division - went top of 1st Division!
3 Liverpool 0 CUFC 0 Jan 1974 FA Cup - fantastic defensive performance and real 70s crowd experience inside and outside the ground
4 Everton 2 CUFC 3 Dec 1974 League 1st Division - Struggling by now; 0-2 at half time but incredible 2nd half performance
5 CUFC 0 Birmingham 1 Wembley Apr 1995 Auto Windscreens Final - at a full Wembley!
6 CUFC 3 Roma 3 Jun 1972 Anglo Italian Cup - Great memory from halcyon days
7 CUFC 4 Burnley 2 Apr 1975 League 1st Division - we were virtually certain to go down but beat Everton 3-0 at home then this excellent game of real football
8 PNE 0 CUFC 3 Apr 1994 League Div 3 (4th Tier) - stuck it up the rivals on their plastic pitch, great atmosphere, a sense of revival
9 CUFC 3 Leeds 1 Nov 2007 League 1 - best side we've had in last 35 years, full house, great experience
10 Sunderland 1 CUFC 1 Jan 1995 FA Cup - fantastic atmosphere in away end, again a sense of revival, incredible celebrations at Edmondson's equaliser

Whenever it was its a whole haze to me pretty sure I must have slept thru the game but the two things I remember were a lad nicking a bike and riding it down a slipway into the river and being filmed by the Beeb [and it went out live on their BR coverage] who were based on the flat roof of that pub just across the river from the ground and the other thing was everywhere you looked there were toffs with bottles of champers sat on the grass we went round relieving them of them and doing the honours. Never been so pissed on champagne before or since.

These spring to mind. Mainly memorable for personal reasons.
1. 1974/5 Everton Away - 2-3 - First div - Balderstone masterclass. 2-0 down at H-T.
2. 1973 or 4 - 3rd Round FA Cup - 0-0 at Anfield - lifted in air by my Dad at the end, right by the Kop.
3. Newcastle 3-1 - Div 2 - in mid 1980s - gale - Tommy Craig scored for us in WE from what seemed like half way line. With the wind at his back. beaten up afterwards...!
4. Wembley v Brum - never forget the noise in the main atrium when entering.
5. 4-3 v Cardiff, Div 2 - Rafferty game
6. Doncaster away - last game in League - we thought possibly forever. Eldest son on shoulders all game, defiant.
7. Wolves - 2-0 - old Div 2 circa 77 ? - late season game, lovely day. With Uncle and family in old Exec Club for first and last time. did Les O"Neil score at WRE in front of us?
8. Joker Park when Darren scored.
9. Newcastle 74/75 - we lost 1-2 but SuperMac scored great goal and remember the Scratching Shed bouncing to the tune of "Geordie, Geordie Hallelujah.." - no segregation then.
10= - 3-0 v both Everton and Derby in Div 1
Hard - could do this again and choose many others....

1. Spurs at home 1971. Beat us 2-3. Remember spurs fans running down the Warwick about 500 of them. Minute later about a thousand Carlisle running as well after them. Spurs fans in the Warwick didnt last long. Chivers throw in met by Gilzeans head and straight in the net. Great game we were worth a draw at least. I wasnt allowed to go to the game against them the next season because of the trouble. Mum wouldnt let an 11 year old nomad go!!
2.Wembley 1995 v brum. Words cannot describe the feeling of the entire day so i will leave it there.
3.Preston in the cup 1975 1-0 to the blues. We had 10 thousand at deepdale. Went on a football special. A mental day and a lot of carnage.
4. Mansfield away again in 1975 in the cup. A 1-0 win for Carlisle. I was at school there for a year and got quite a bit of stick from lads at School. Some of them came in our end at half time. Started having a go at me . Didnt last long we had 5 thousand there. Got a bit of a doin when back at school though.
5. Jimmy glass many tears shed.
6. Leeds 3-1 great game. Was in The Warwick. One of the best CUFC atmospheres id witnessed. Think it was a game that we played them off the pitch second half.
7. Stevenage play off at Stoke. Great evening out and a Murphy header that saw a superb celebration from the blues support. Back in the league.
8. Sunderland first game in the cup 1993 1-1 draw. Great 5 thousand following at Roker park. Should of won.
9. Scunthorpe 3-2 away 1995. Super sub Thorpe. Was in a pub before and went back after. Was getting grief from some Scuni lads. Seconds later the BCF stood behind them. Saying whats wrong with Carlisle. The guys pooped themselves. Rest is history but it didnt last long.
10.My first game v Charlton at BP. A draw. The smell of pipe tobacco on the Warwick.

The only one not listed, that would make my top 10 was the 2-3 comeback at Luton, Tuesday night 3 or 4 years back.
When Asamoah scored..My son pulled me away from trying to climb the wall onto the pitch, I was having an out of body experience!
