Fantastic to hear him on BBCRC tonight- the best guest yet

Great to hear his obvious passion for the blues and the city in general.

Quite possibly the most influential player in my 40 years supporting the club

One of the most inspirational signings the club ever made. Has he still got his steam roller?

Great interview with someone I always thought didn't do them because he didn't come over very well but he certainly put that one to bed last nite.

Sounds like he has his dream job and is in a very happy place.

And congrats have to go to Lummy too for tracking him down and persuading him to it and for just giving him the odd prod and reminder when it was needed.

Would have been good to hear that.
I would like to know how many watches he has from "Peter Jackson the Jeweller". It seemed like he was MOM every other week when in his prime.

What a great character and player!

I think BBC Cumbria have done an excellent job during lockdown with the throwback commentaries and quality guests like Kevin and Ian Bishop.

Thanks to Paul Newton and Lummy...

This link should get you to listen again on radio Cumbria, for some reason it's called something else but when I played it it was the sports show.

Kevin Gray on from around 6 mins.

Great point which I should have brought up!

I got around 16 in my first season (largely due to the fact Kev had a period injured in that season but I think he would not be far off!), then around double figures over the next few years, the watches were valued at £130 so it was fantastic to get so many.

You could actually trade them in at Peter Jackson’s so I remember Karl Hawley traded his in and got a very nice Breitling.

I missed the cut off of the trade in so mine have been presents of the years to many people!

I’ve enjoyed the interviews on a Friday, out of my comfort zone but we decided to cover my lack
Of presenting skills or interviewing skills by thinking of it as a kind of podcast which I think helped me a bit.

Instead of the normal questions players usually get we have tried to get some stories you wouldn’t usually here, without of course going too far!

I’ve enjoyed them all for different reasons:

Kieran - How Carlisle made him

Glenn Murray - just how he can’t actually believe how well he has done from plastering to question of sport guest

Bridgey - Insight into big premier league transfer

Danny Graham - Di Canio madness

Bayliss - Old school passion

Ian Bishop - We had to do two weeks running and could have easily done 3,great guest and what a player,we didn’t even bother cutting out the swearing!

Few more lined up too so I’m glad you enjoy it,bit of light relief at this time.

Let me know if there is someone you would like to hear and I’ll try my best to get them.

Not someone you played with Lummy but for me a bit of treat would be Warren Aspinall, great player and a character to boot.

For me, it would have to be Murph.

For a while I had to get an interview for the programme or website after the match. When we were winning it was great, players practically queueing up, but when we were on a bad run , players were in their cars and away, had to rush, didn't have time, etc etc etc.

There were only two players I could really rely on to do one of those low times interviews. One being Danny Graham, the other being Murph, who at times could be prickly but would always produce some good material, honest and a good read. In his ten years he was involved in all the big moments at the club, I think he would probarbly cover a couple of shows.

They’ve all been fantastic to listen to Lummy - you say you’re out of your own comfort zone doing the interviewing, but they haven’t come across like that at all - you come across as very natural.

I know he’s been on before alongside a few others, but the one I’d like to hear on a Friday night on his own would be Dennis Booth - what a character.

Listened to most of them and been enjoyable, but they’ve all got one thing in common - members of decent teams.

Would be interesting to listen to one with someone who was in a ‘bad’ team, who got hammered every week, just for a different perspective? Be some great tales from say the Collins era!

Kev Gray is a bit old school, no airs and graces, just a guy who wanted to play, while being grounded in his roots. The story about Chris Beech going to pick him up at home, when they were both at Huddersfield was funny. Beech rolled up in his new car at Kevs place, down a track, to find him "wrestling a bull" which he asked CB to give him a hand with. Beech had talked about this in a RC interview the other week, apparently, which then Kev recalled as well. It was in fact a highland cow

Lummy, 2 players who played significant roles in our return to the league and our success in League 2 the following season, but don't seem to get as much credit as others -
I'd love to hear interviews with Simon Grand and/or Derek Holmes.
And going back much, much further, one of the best players to grace Brunton Park, Bobby Parker.

Great to hear Kev talk about being at Carlisle, I wonder if he really knows how much of a difference he made during his time with us?
I can’t think of a better leader we’ve had for decades, I wonder where we’d have been had he not been having a time of it with the plastic scousers.

Is there a way to listen to the previous ones at all?
I’d love to hear Kieran’s....

Sumo would be a good shout. What about Dean Walling? Club legend if ever there was one. Came to us in the glory years of the early 90’s ;) became a cult hero. Played in some good sides that had plenty success in the following years.

Also, Paul Proudlock? :)

Nearly everyone mentioned on here we have or will be approaching, some have turned us down for different reasons from health to work commitments.

Agreed CCU, I really want to get stuck into that Roddy era and if it was as bad as I heard!

Sometimes not the most well heard of player can turn out to be gold, I remember eyebrows were raised at Kevin Henderson at the Legends night at the fire station, but he had great tales of what he walked into just after Roddy.

All suggestions are noted and will try our best to get them :)

Regarding mine, yeah I will be doing one, I think questions from here is a good idea, Ill talk to Paul Newton then touch base with MOD on here and see best way to do it.

I have covered a lot of my career over the years at various nights and on radio, so this time it will be warts and all about off the pitch and what really went on inside the clubs I played for.

I was at a match a few years ago and bumped into Jon McCarthy befre the match. He had a lot of tales of the Roddy Collins era. I don't know if he would be prepared to tell them on the radio but he was very interesting to talk to.

What about Matty Glennon? Did he not span the Collins & Simpson eras?

Would be interested in Brendan McGill as well.

Or from further back what about the likes of Reeves, Rod Thomas, David Currie, Aspinall already been mentioned, Owen Archdeacon, Tony Gallimore.

Matty booked in.

Also with this,as NS said about Kev Gray, some people are comfortable talking and telling stories, some are not,so in the past it’s been apparent we are not going to fill more than 15 minutes with them.

We need lads that want to do it and feel natural doing it,plus want to tell some cracking tales!

Some names put forward have knocked us back but will try all suggestions.
