It was a beautiful clear morning I was the only person up there til half way back down. I didn't go to Helvelyn summit, I was in my running trainers and didn't fancy either of the edges to the top despite the nice weather, although there was a bit of snow at the top of swirral edge. After just watching Markredfoxs youtube video i'm glad I didn't!

Parked at dodd then walked across to start of edge then up to ullock pike then up that scree slope to summit came back down by the scree again then over carlside and back to our car through dodd .
It is pretty awkward coming down that way and made worse due to it being piss wet not a bad way to spend 4 hrs though.

Maps, studying various other websites with walks on. Gives you a picture of what type of terrain and climbs you get plus the time it may take. Having the essentials before going out is a big must..

I'm sure it does mate I'm no fellwalker but have done scafell pike 3 times with pals over the years and each time thoroughly enjoyed

a bit of a country walk spotting a few birds more my thing now got the arthritis in ankle but can imagine being up there on tops on your own can make most problems seem insignificant

Make sure you get the updated ones by Chris Jesty. The original Wainwright ones are very out of date. (A66 is not on them, for instance). They make more sense when you are out, with the fells in front of you.

It's officially called "Innominate Tarn" (innominate meaning 'without a name'.)
Was originally called "Loaf Tarn" prior to it's renaming but that name was lost to time, hence the new one.

It's also the final resting place of Alfred Wainwright, his ashes were scattered there.
