Your probably absolutely right cos I couldn't tell you any of the new solo shit as it's washed over me. Remember hearing his releases and interviews but not much else Urban Hymes was a [censored] great album though.

A Northern Soul pisses over Urban Hymns IMO...

Yes, I agree with all of that. Northern Soul is a superb record. History is one of the great, great songs. He's such a cock and his solo stuff is dreadful that it's hard to believe he was capable of writing stuff like that.
One of their early singles, All In The Mind, was a great track as well. I saw them live just after Urban Hymns was released. The original gig was cancelled because, I think, Nik McCabe broke his arm or something, so by the time it was rescheduled Urban Hymns was massive and it was really big gig.
I loved it as that wash and haze of guitars sound they get was lovely.
In retrospect to my ears, Bitter Sweet Symphony apart, the album sounds a bit cliched and inflated without the edge and drive of A Northern Soul.
My sister-in-law used to work in the music industry in London and was, shall we say, surprised by how underwhelmed she was when she met him. "Arrogant pr**k", I think, she said.

The Seekers - the best band never to play Carlisle in the 60s. They were going to headline at The Lonsdale but Judith Durham got a cold and had to cancel a couple of gigs on the tour - Carlisle being one of them. Many disappointed folk (including me).

Yes, I liked that too. Her album last year was good. Would have liked to have seen her but the shows sold out very quickly. I've got tickets for this guy playing MK in October who was on Jools this week as well. Should be a barrel of laughs.

Saw him live last September at the Nottingham arena. Best concert I have seen, and I don't say that lightly. He played The Ship Song and it was amazing but the real well up moments was the stuff from his last album, about his son. You had a 10,000+ crowd and you could hear a pin drop. I've never encountered that at the arena before, there's always some idiot that can't cope with the quiet bits but this was incredible.

I find it really rude when people talk over artists and flash phones in their faces whilst they are performing.

You get a chance for photos after normally or at least wait for the encore.

Living the life munchy, shame we have to get old isn't it. When I think of the nights out we never had, still always look on the bright side of life, it kept you on the straight and narrow.

I think you're not alone there Zebby. I think they are a bit of a marmite band. I've never been able to get my head around The Manic St Preachers but plenty of people seem to like them. Be boring if we all liked the same thing. Imagine a world if everybody liked Mumford & Sons...
