No offence meant to anybody! It was just that I had a friend who before playing me M&S, said that what he was about to play me was the future of music and a whole new musical genre. After a few minutes I'd realised that it was indeed a whole new genre of music.

What did you think of The Church pal, did you go to both dates? Was banging my head off the wall when the venue in Glasgow burnt down - 25 years of waiting and, after everything now this? (see what I did there?!). Thank goodness it was relocated.

Weirdly, bit of a 'waiting for a bus' scenario though, in that I bought tickets to go and see Fields of the Nephiim in November and found out afterwards that The Church are supporting! Chatting to people at the gig and they thought it was a weird combination, which I can see to an extent but as I love both bands I'm not complaining. Similar situation many years ago when I saw The Sisters of Mercy supporting Depeche Mode, lots of SoM fans left after their set and many DM fans were moaning about it but I was in my element!

The two all dayers in London were terrific. The venue was seated during the day for the various solo sets and film screenings then it was standing for The Church’s sets each evening. They did two sets each night - most of Hologram of Baal and Starfish (2 of my favourites) on Saturday and all of The Blurred Crusade on Sunday for the first set then a mixture in the second set.

Newcastle Academy on Tuesday was even better. As soon as they took the stage they really threw themselves into it,especially Kilbey. They started with Aura which is my personal favourite of all their songs. I’ve seen them 8 times now and that was one of the best and certainly the best since Marty left. Sadly, there was only about a hundred people there.

I was very tempted to go to Glasgow last night but seeing the same band 4 times in 5 days would’ve been a bit obsessive even for me. Hope you enjoyed it.

If you don’t know your shit, you won’t know you’re shit.

Wow, the London thing sounds amazing. Had heard the numbers were low at Newcastle, there were mabye 200 there last night so they had it in the bar rather than the hall but the atmosphere was great - SK was indeed well up for it, as was the crowd. Good mix of classics and new stuff, just a shame they weren't very well attended, just as well they're supporting The Nephilim as they probably wouldn't bother coming back otherwise. I'm guessing you're not a FotN fan but I see The Church are doing a headline gig in Edinburgh at the end of the tour...

I’d maybe go to see The Neph if they played in Carlisle but not otherwise. I didn’t see The Church at The Festival Hall on Friday where they supported The Psychedelic Furs but apparently they only played 7 songs. That wouldn’t have pleased me. Edinburgh would be tempting, though.

If you don’t know your shit, you won’t know you’re shit.

Inspired by Jon Colman's tweet mentioning their "Swerving the Checkatrade" I've been listening again to the superb Half Man Half Biscuit album from earlier this year - "No one cares about your creative hub so get your [censored] hedge cut".
Seen them quite a few times down the years and the latest album is well worth listen but can appreciate they are not everyone's cup of tea.
Hopefully they'll be in attendance at BP next week when Tranmere come up as they are lifelong & dedicated fans. Whoever is doing the music on the day can maybe sneak in "All I want for Xmas is a Dukla Prague away kit" or maybe "I hate Nerys Hughes."

I love this tune - didn't he ad-lib it once on TOTP or something.

We once had a studio called Border TV up in Harraby NCF, you are probably aware of it and we used to do the ITV version of say Saturday Morning Live but a lot of them were filmed in Carlisle and Billy stepped on my mates foot and apologised - he said that he was tiny.

We had Adam Ant and Heaven 17 up here too :)

It's funny really as I grew up in Lincolnshire but the regional channels we received were Yorkshire and Central and occasionally Anglia for some reason.
This was great for football as you could potentially get 3 separate footie programmes on Sunday afternoons.
I'd get to see a lot of Leeds and Wednesday\United on Yorkshire, Villa, Wolves, WBA etc on Central and Norwich & Ipswich on Anglia.
Border only really came into our world with Mr & Mrs which we absolutely loved in the days when there was nothing else on!
Yes, Billy Mackenzie was a great bloke by all accounts and what a voice. Very sad to hear how difficult life had become for him.
I remember buying Breakfast on single and the B Side was the instrumental, I'd normally have been gutted by that as it always felt like a cop out but it's such a lovely bit of piano that it was great.

Listened to some of The Associates earlier and Party Fears Two is still one of the best things that I have ever heard.

Doesn't make any sense at all mind but that doesn't seem to matter, 'that' Top Of The Pops performance is worth checking out when they perform the song and you just couldn't help but like them.

Listened to Popera earlier and Wild And Lonely but all of the albums are class.

Isn't it great that we all see things differently. I was a big Queen fan, and particularly of Freddy's voice. I really enjoyed the music and thought the acting (except for the guy who played Roger Taylor) was massive from the lead characters but I just felt the whole thing was sanitised and manipulated to make it all very "nice". Freddy came out like a rather niaive and eccentric dear, who loved cats.

Billy helped to soundtrack my youth and always provided solace when the bigger, posher rugby boy inevitably took away the girl I secretly coveted.
