Yes, what a good band they were. Haven't heard that for decades!
Reminds me of a time I saw this lot - what a song this is...

For some reason I had two copies of first release, then a good few years later I got offered 50 quid for one when it was a big hit in the clubs

So flogged it ...still got a 7" vinyl copy somewhere

Been listening to this today.
Don't often hear it on the radio but I think it's a classic.
Very big in Lincolnshire in the 80s but so was riding pigs.
Simpler times.

Yes, that is a good record, Laffy. Used to listen to that and Feast of Wire by Calexico which is a great record as well.

Love Wilco but prefer 'Summerteeth' and 'Ghost is Born' to YHF.

I really got into Americana/Alt Country etc in the late 90's. Wilco, Lambchop and Whiskeytown especially, then Ryan Adams solo career (even though he, clearly, is a bit of a nob) . Not a brand of music that gets much exposure over here though and it's quite rare to find other people into it.

I am getting into massive grief for hoarding shite by the missus but I prefer to listen to stuff on the stereo/record player whilst I am on the computer or playing games so I like to buy a physical copy of things so my attic is creaking.

Black - Wonderful Life is as bleak as it gets but is a proper Spring album in my eyes just as The Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour is the perfect Autumnal record, both are pretty downbeat but equally beautiful and they cheer me up regardless.

If you want downbeat then the ultimate band for that has got to be Low. Try - Ones and Sixes.

Cheers pal I will check them out, there is a fine line between melancholy and enjoyable at times I have found in music as I find The Tindersticks and Ed Harcourt a bit much on the low side, Crowded House mastered this art.

Antony and the Johnsons song Hope There's Someone is probably the saddest song ever and will no doubt get played at my funeral.

Yes it was a sad loss when Colin died.

I had the chance to go and see him in Leicester at a small venue when I lived down there and didn't go in the end - gutted.

You just think that these artist will be around performing forever and you will get another chance to see them like I thought I would eventually see The Prodigy.

Another band that are still alive but not performing that I missed was The Christians when they played at Whitehaven, a fantastic band, Gary had a great voice and Henry wrote great songs.

Paul Carrack was briefly in Squeeze as you will probably already know - fortunately when me and a mate seen Squeeze at The Sands circa 1993 he was doing the Jools Holland role and he actually performed his song in the set, we were well happy with this :)

Fantastic gig Pete wasn't it - Nick Heyward was surprisingly good as well as the support.

Don't know if you know Pete but Squeeze are doing a massive tour this year with Heaven 17 as the support band - sounds great as I am sure that you will agree but unfortunately they are not doing Carlisle.

The Bluetones were one of those Britpop bands that were a sprinkle of joy and the first album was pretty decent.

Then they had about four decent songs thereafter.

About ten years back a good mate of mine was living somewhere in the Stockport area and He was a massive Blueutones fan and the singer was a neighbour of his and he was overjoyed until he met him and he told me that he had never met such a 'full of it' dick in his life and he hasn't been able to listen to them since.

Great tune that one though :)

Great choice - a friend mentioned this on Facebook earlier, I liked it and stupidly put a reply and it told me that I had 1 day and 5 hours before I can post anything :)

Weird story for you, I already had the album and was blasting it away at the time and so my then girlfriend also got into them and it was around the time it came out and we went into that indoor market on Botchergate an there was a bloke who had a stall, more of a table and a chair and all that he sold was The Stone Roses album for about two quid a pop, so I bought her a copy.

Thing was that when she played it the stickers on the album were on the wrong way round as in side one and two on the vinyl, original pressing as well so is probably worth more than the proper version so will have to mention it next time I see her.

Best stall ever - all that they sold was The Stone Roses album, class :)
