That draw looks fixed to me as well - is it still regionalised at this stage?

A Sunderland Portsmouth final would be a big crowd - from Sunderland anyway as Portsmouth fans are very much against it

Why do they need the football league trophy? They play their kids in the league cup and now FA Cup!

Look at Liverpool - I remember a time when the league (division 1) was just the bread and butter. The FA Cup was glamour - but Liverpool play 16 year olds against Wolves and even the Wolves fans weren't too exited about beating a youth/reserve team.

Any odds on them being kept apart in the Semi’s?

Any excuse to escape that dump of a town and invest London.

Hopefully Portsmouth will continue thier boycotte

Would’ve bet good money on Sunderland and Pompey being kept apart in the draw today. As soon as Sunderland drew Newcastle in the round after Port Vale drew Stoke I had a feeling this years draw was rigged.

Portsmouth V Bristol Rovers/Sunderland.
That’s a cracker either way and likely to be a bumper crowd.
Doesn’t take away from the shambles of having the academy teams in, but you would think the competition , in general, will have its reputation boosted by what will most likely be a near sold out crowd.

The way I look at it is that a Portsmouth versus Sunderland final may well have happened anyhow even without the academy teams.

However it isn't like when we won it twice beating 'real' teams in every round so their final is totally spoiled for me, which is a shame really as both clubs have a strong cup tradition and in the old style the final would have been a treat.

(that is if Sunderland win their SF of course)

The budgets of both clubs are more responsible I would reckon, even if the draw had been regionalised for the semi finals then it would still have ben pretty reasonably matched with Portsmouth - Bristol Rovers and Sunderland - Bury.

If we had got there this season I would have watched it on the tv but wouldn't have considered going and still would not recognise it as our third win really even though it would count.

Portsmouth have been avid boycotters of this competition. Even the 1000 odd that turned up made a point of leaving as soon as it kicked off.

Saying that - how many times do you get a chance to see your team playing at Wembley in front of 80,000 plus. Im sure if we were playing Sunderland in the final 20k would go.

If it was the normal competition and it was us versus Sunderland then it would have sold out with folk still wanting to get in.

Sunderland are moaning that they have been given 400 odd tickets less.

Why only 40,000 each? Club Wembley?

I don't think there has ever been a 90,000 crowd at the new Wembley.

Shame on Portsmouth fans. Sunderland don't appreciate what it is all about but Pompey fans should. Sunderland won't see it from an efl fans point of view and they will have very little sympathy for smaller clubs. The ''m all right Jack' attitude as they know they won't be down for long. Probably same with the vast majority of Portsmouth too it seems.
Perhaps those of us with principles and morals are banging our heads against a brick wall in a sport that has none.

Listening to NC at the forum defending the boards choice to ignore 92% of the fanbase's opinion just sums it up. They sold our soul for 30k and probably lost tens of thousands of pounds and the hearts of many in the process of short term greed .
It is the best possible final for Harvey and co. What are the chances of that happening eh??!!

Think we had the second highest at the Old Wembley of 76k plus v Birmingham City.

We must have one of the highest at the New Wembley as well - 68k v Southampton.

Great game and atmosphere today - blood and thunder that you rarely see in the Prem League.

Great match. There’s no way you’d get this atmosphere, competitiveness and passion if an under 21 team were involved.

This should be an advert to show why B teams should be no where near this competition.

The competition will now be seen as a success for the EFL now.

Dream final with 85k there, a high attendance for an u21 game between Sunderland and Newcastle U21. Thank god for Sunderland.

Thankfully there’s still some sensible ones that can see the competition for the farce that it is.

At least we’re not Stockport

A shame, as it’s a competition that’s served us well for a couple of decades, but simply can’t support it in its current guise.

I get why some folk still go, but surely a stand has to be taken at some point?

Those in charge of the game are taking the piss more and more...
