Anthony Gerrard - Signed was created by Happyblue
Defender mentioned by Sheridan may be Anthony Gerrard, Saw a tweet earlier saying he is set to be released and signing for us, Would fit in with the Right-footed defender.

Gerard has plenty of experience and only 32. Seems a favourite of Sheridans.

Looks good on paper, Oldham fans don’t seem to fond of him on twitter, has he been absent from their pre-season training?

Interesting if he did sign, the Oldham defence was so bad though we beat them but they were more set up to win 6-4 gung ho approach that nearly saved them.

Bit like saying Parkes was crap for Leyton Orient and turned out to be pretty decent for us I guess.

If Sheridan thinks he is the man for the job then get him signed - there must be a little bit of money floating about then or perhaps EWM have put a bit of cash in via the advice of DH.

Normally make or break time when managers go for the old trusted guard - I hope that he is as good a signing as Asamoah was.

Fits with what JS has said he wanted, very experienced in League 1 and hopefully brings the vocal presence are the back that we need following Hill's departure.

If he cuts at least one of our former players in two who think that they can return to Brunton Park and take the piss then he is an amazing signing :)

Bit niaive to think Gerrard has only caused bother at Oldham - he's been a knob at every club he's been at.
Seems to think he should have had the carrer of Steve G, and blames others he has not.

Couldn't find any more information on this one, if they sack him do they still hold his registration?

Getting on a bit but reading his Wiki page he has played at Championship level and has won player of the year award numerous times.

I would imagine if they've sacked him and then hold on to his registration they are depriving himof his right to seek work elsewhere.

If you offered me a 32 year old centre half with loads of championship performances under your belt, I’d snap your hand off. I actually hope we do sign him.

A decent center half can play to nearly 40 if they stay fit 32 I would call still in prime for a center half been there seen that loads of experience 32 would be classed as a sprog in Italy for a CB

Be just and fear not

Just hope that Oldham have not offered more cash than us to keep him, which to be fair Harrogate could probably match our wages at the moment so he is probably in a dilemma.

You just know what our lot are like for reneging on deals.

All I know that hasn't been on here or widely published elsewhere is that the PFA put a stop to whatever OAFC were planning to do within 12 hours of it happening which is probably why theres an amount of confusion and silence.

But to be clear theres only 2 ways you can sack a player who has a contract

1] You sack him, pay up his contract and tear up his registration leaving him as a free agent.

2] You find a breach of the terms of the contract and sack him for that which will then go legal and in terms of what happens is you hold onto his registration and continue paying him [ the gardening leave option.]

Strange that it hasn’t got out what’s happened. Usually doesn’t take long where there’s a professional footballer involved whether he’s guilty or not.

Let's not read too much into the sacking. I've never been sacked before but, as a younger man, the employers could easily have got shot of me for being a lazy sod or finding ingenious ways to do anything but what was asked of me in some of the most boring jobs known to man. Had I have been a more violent character, there are many bosses and work colleagues I'd loved to have chinned before walking out on places but I didn't.
I'm sure most of us have been through similar in our younger years. He may be a wild card - who knows - but if JS can manage him and he doesn't become a bad egg in the changing room, surely he is a player of quality we could do with. Until we know more, let's not judge the guy.

Exactly DB and that why the more sceptical amongst us like me think theres a lot more to this than is currently coming out.

But speaking to a couple of Oldham fans is their opinion is that the foreign owner will have sent an e.mail ordering staff to take some action for whatever reason without any knowledge or understanding of how British Law would affect those instructions.

Clearly, the fact that Sheridan has denied everything to the point of sounding like a complete liar says that theres currently some sort of standoff where he hasn't been paid off and certainly isn't in a position where he could sign for a new club

And on Gerrard speaking to those lads they say if he was a player who was happy with his employers and enjoying his football then youd have a great and committed player but they're of the opinion that thats not been the case at Oldham for over a year in fact probably back to he point that Sheridan left there last time.

From Oldham Chronicle:
The reason for his dismissal remains unclear, but it is believed it has something to do with the 32-year-old’s reaction on Twitter to the news that manager Richie Wellens had been sacked at Boundary Park.

Even Auntie has taken up having a bash at our poor club - BBC Sport Transfer Deadline Day page (12:46)

"Today I am realising a dream. This is the best club in the world."

"Anthony Gerrard there, talking after his move to Carlisle. Only kidding. These are, of course, the words of Thibaut Courtois, who seems pretty chuffed at having joined Real Madrid."
