He still looks like he’s got a big gut, yet he’s been training full time for 3 to 4 months now. I don’t know how he hasn’t lost the weight.

Never seemed to hinder Warren Aspinall who carried his on a lot smaller frame than Gerrard

Interesting viewpoint on twitter from James Philips. Has he got a unfair dismissal case seeing as he was sacked for gross misconduct?

I don't think it was unfair and he got a written warning about his conduct from FA.

Maybe depends if he had his contract paid up? Normally there is a clause in somewhere that in the event of gross misconduct, the club doesn't have to pay the player any compensation. He could be due a few quid if so!

Oldham not happy.

From News & Star:

Oldham have hit out at the "lenient" punishment they say the Football Association have handed to Carlisle United's Anthony Gerrard over a controversy involving WhatsApp messages.
The Latics also publicly accused Gerrard of "racist behaviour" and claimed he made a joke about the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The FA last night said Gerrard had been warned and ordered to attend an education course.
He avoided, though, further charges or punishment by the governing body.
Carlisle, who signed Gerrard after he had been sacked by Oldham in the summer, said they were pleased the matter had been dealt with.

The Boundary Park club, though, this afternoon criticised the FA process and decision - and also said it was not good enough in light of the recent debate over racism in football.
In a statement - which did not refer to Gerrard by name - they said: "Oldham Athletic Football Club is disappointed with the FA’s lenient punishment of the racist behaviour displayed by a former employee during his time at the club.
"Whilst the club welcome football’s governing body dealing with this incident, the racist joke relating to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan posted in the Oldham players’ WhatsApp group was a serious matter which we believe has not been dealt with appropriately.
"We think questions must be asked about the conclusion of this investigation."

Be interesting to find out what the education course entails. How to stop being a racist or maybe how to not get caught?

I think Oldham are only making a big thing about this because their owner Abdallah Lemsagam is Moroccan. The FA response seems perfectly fair.

Education might help change things, but I’d say that needs to be at a younger age. Gerrard is well into his senior career and changing him through a few hour long course is unlikely to have great effects.

Interesting that fans have very recently received bans and fines for racist comments to players, but when the players are the ones reported to be at fault the punishments suddenly become different (outside of the elite leagues, I must add).

Hope it’s put to bed and Gerrard can stop comfort eating to deal with the worry now though...

I imagine the course is rather like a speed awareness course. Presumably you get taught about the importance of certain religious festivals and can ask questions. Might even be enjoyable if you have a group of lads taking the mick out of the class instructor. (no racial slur against the Irish intended)

Remember when John Terry called Anton Ferdinand a "Black Charlie Uniform November Tango"? He was shown a lot more leniency than the Chelsea fan who called Raheem Sterling the same thing!

Yes, I agree with that.
I've been hugely impressed with him as a player and character since arriving.
Along with Danny always the one who comes right over to the fans, irrespective of result and mentioned how much of a "privilege" it is to get paid to play football.
For older fans like me it's always a joy to hear a modern footballer say that.

He made a point of going over the applaud the Oldham fans at the end of the game, didn’t look like a wind up attempt, got a mixed reaction but that’s probably no surprise.

More importantly, he’s a pretty good defender at this level.

Manager to Chesterfield and one of our star players to Hartlepool would be a ridiculous scenario but strangely looks possible.

Here's another one - if players are performing then why are they not worth decent money at our club, if they feel that we are taking the piss then they will be off elsewhere to clubs who will pay them their worth.

Hope and Etuhu certainly look more of a decent 'double package' deal to a lot of clubs since we signed them.

Parkes has also looked decent this season, Liddle who Curle also brought in will also probably titter at Holdsworths deal.

Our deal has been offered Paddock, improved terms on his current deal but Holdsworth eluded previously to the deal we got him on being half of what he was previously earning. So our improved terms could still be well below where he values himself (and indeed where the market values him).
