Hot on the heels of the seemingly never ending work on the junction of Eastern Way and Warwick Road, United Utilities have announced major work in Montgomery Way, Warwick Road and Victoria Place in 2019.

www.unitedutilities.com/cumbria/our-plans/carlisle/

We're aiming to start our next stage of work in January 2019 to refurbish two pipelines that run down Montgomery Way, along Warwick Road and towards Victoria Place. The work on these large pipes may take up to 12 months to complete as the team will work on one pipe at a time to ensure the other is kept in operation to keep taps flowing.

Chuffin` `ell, still, all the road works / closures / temporary traffic lights makes getting around Carlisle and the surrounding area an interesting exercise at times.

Us old fogeys can remember Carlisle pre-Motorway - now THAT was a logistical exercise even with far fewer vehicles on the road. We didn't used to bury our dead in them days - we just sat them in cars on Lowther Street...

The current ones at the junction of Eastern Way and Warwick Road don’t actually appear to have made much improvement?!

A second lane instead of keeping a few trees (There’d have been plenty of pavement left still!) between the Tesco Junction and Eastern Way would’ve been far better IMO...

Those two lanes would still have merged into one from Eastern way making no difference from there into the city.

I was meaning the second lane would’ve curved round straight onto Eastern Way, using the little used grass patch. The growth of Durranhill Industrial Estate would warrant it with increased wagons and vans using it.

I often go from Jctn 43 up into the city centre, and find it rarely problematic...

The time it’s taken to widen that junction is embarrassing. It was meant to be 6 months and now looks like it’s going to be closer to 8 !

Cant understand why it has taken so long to do a bit of junction rejigging and some road widening. Not enough labour or a cheap contractor not equipped for the job?

One things for sure someone will be making a pretty penny from it.
I think the money is coming from some sort of grant.
