Northampton have lost their top scorer Kevin van Veen to Scunthorpe. Hopefully Keith is lining up Richie Bennett as a replacement as we speak. :-D

Also heard a whisper that Devitt is maybe on his way sooner rather than later.

You say he’s nowt special, but compared to ours he is. 15 goals already this season, 15 in each of the last 2 seasons in struggling teams, hit over 30 for Grimsby in their promotion season.

However I think the likelihood of us signing him now is pretty much zero.

Would love Amond, but surely he'd command a fee (just checked, he's under contract there till the Summer). Oldham just released Ishmael Miller, he's only 31. Seems to have been about for ever!

Miller has seen better days. He joined Oldham after a year off.

Exeter have sold Jayden Stockley to Preston for £750k. The fee means Exeter have now made over £6m in transfer fees over the past four years, after also selling Ollie Watkins, Matt Grimes, Ethan Ampadu and David Wheeler.

Apart from Gary Madine we seem to give away our decent players. Potts, Dempsey and Wyke spring to mind.

Jayden Stockley gone from Exeter for £750,000. Was very impressed with him and Forte against us. A real handful.
Can't help but feel we're missing a trick with Nadesan. Despite the shortcomings he's a good player and as quick a forward as you're likely to see in our league.
Not saying he'd turn into a 750k player but surely a good chance he'd continue to perform well and not that implausible to imagine us selling him on for 150 or 250k a year or two down the line if he continues to develop.
I know money's tight but it would be a win win for us we bought him. 15-20 goal a season striker going up in value.

That Ricky German's an interesting one. 28 goals in 21 for Hendon attracted quite a few teams but Crawley have nipped in and got him on a three year deal.

They'll be thinking if he's any good at all there will be money to be made on him.

Having said that Richie Bennett looked a good signing on paper!

And Paddy Madden. We sell him for the price of a fitted kitchen to yeovil and he scores 100 goals at League 1 or higher.

Even when we threaten to be tough negotiators it's usually undone because we let players have clauses in their contracts that they could go for 50p if anyone's interested

Newport County striker Padraig Amond has triggered a clause in his contract to extend his stay until at least the end of the 2019/20 season.

Swindon have signed a couple on loan.

Speaks volumes that while transfer fees have inflated massively in recent years, our record fee received is still the £1.5m for Jansen. In fairness we haven't had anybody as good as Jansen in that time, but it seems that other clubs get a million or two for their hot prospects, who five years later have faded into obscurity.

In a sort of reverse superblueabbott style and following a conversation today, I firmly believe we are very unlikely to retain any of our loanees, Unlikely to re-sign Gerrard and any who do come in will need to be very very cheap indeed. Sheridan has actually been royally screwed by the BOD if my info is correct and his screwing started three weeks ago after Chesterfield made their approach. TINHAT ON!

They don't like it up 'em!

I’ve heard the BOD got scared of how well Sheridan had the team playing and the prospect of going up that when the Chesterfield position became available they saw it as a way of giving Sheridan the chance to resign by going back on all the promises they made to him !!

You get a sense that the next 3 weeks could well shape the future of the club for the next 3 years.
If we can somehow have Gerrard, Nadesan, Devitt, Yates and Sowerby all playing for us in 3 weeks time then the side really does have a great chance of at least making the playoffs.
We're scoring goals for fun, sweeping aside sides in the top half of the league and on a run not seen for a decade.
If we lose 2 or 3 of those players then it would be no surprise to see the side perform as it did just a weeks back. Losing to Macclesfield, Morecambe, Yeovil and Grimsby and not scoring for 8 hours.
This next 3 weeks will shape this club for years to come. We potentially could be a L1 side next year or we could be left with not enough numbers to put out a 5 a side team.
If anyone from the Board or David Holdsworth does read this Forum please do think about the fantastic opportunity we have right now and please don't let it slip through our fingers.
It might not come again for years.

Yes, you all have decades and decades on me knowing what may or may not be around the corner!
But, what currently strikes me, despite understandably wanting to get their financial house in order as the club seems to be haemorrhaging money, is that this time, right now, little or no extra funding is required.
Now, that could statement could be way off and if JP on BBRC is to be believed more money has been loaned from EWM recently so things could be even worse than we know.
But, even if it is worse than we know and even if there is no willingness or capability to spend any more money there appears to be money available now in this current austerity budget.
Sheridan gone, Miller, Glendon, Campbell going. Jones and Bennett possibly out and a new deal on better terms for the club for Kennedy.
Now even if half of these players get out the door and with the Sheridan money that must be freeing up, what, 50k, 100k, 150k, I don't know, in wages alone.
There's a lot of successful, experienced businessmen in the board room and a football man at that top level now. Surely it's within their means to keep the starting 11 together for 4 months?
From the outside, and as fans we're not really privvy to exactly what's going on, but surely there's money to juggle with even from the current slashed budget?

I worry about Anthony Gerrard's situation, but why would he want to move when he's playing well, winning games and liked by the fans? He came out almost sulking on Saturday and eventually came into his own.

This week, we literally have to bring in a forward or else Richie Bennett will make a return with Hallam Hope on the right wing.

There's plenty of interest on us right now, so I think a lot of players will fancy coming if they know they'll play games and slot in nicely (replacements for Ashley Nadesan and Jerry Yates predominantly); but if John Sheridan's wage becomes free to use along with George Glendon, Gary Miller, and Mike Jones' - if they're still surplus to requirements - then two quality players with a loanee or two is a real possibility. Exciting times.

I have watched Armstrong a few times, dating back to when he went on loan to Blyth as a very young kid, he just wanted first team football straight away instead of academy football. His dad is Alun Armstrong, former Ipswich/Darlo forward and now Blyth manager. He has moved up every loan move and done well, I recommended him in the summer.

I am hearing that the Nadesan fee might not be as much as rumoured, so we may have a chance, I still believe we can get Yates back as well and Gerrard, you can see is enjoying his time here, Chesterfield could be a move for him in the summer depending on where they finish, but for now, I think he would want to stay, I think its around about couple hundred quid to seal this one.

On the whole I am quite optimistic about keeping the team together, because it is not that hard to do if the powers that be really want to, this January is a statement from all involved about where they really want the club to be. If it falls apart, if we keep this team together, we have our answer.

With EWM and Holdsworth influence over the existing board, I feel good things may happen. If it was left to the custodians, well, they cant get the lads in as they are already borrowing so much money.
