It was sneaked out but the government is planning to toughen the sentences for causing death by dangerous driving and speeding etc to life sentences. I don't have a problem with tough sentences for the worst offenders but accidents do happen to generally law-abiding individuals. A driver could be in an accident where the ambulance takes 2 hours to arrive and the pedestrian dies. Or as often the case in London at night, the pedestrian is black, wearing dark clothing, not crossing the road at a recognised acrossing point and almost impossible to see. It is outrageous to have possible life sentences for drivers who while committing a minor traffic offence happen to kill someone who may themselves be partly at fault for the accident. Tragic yes but not in the same league as pre-meditated murder.
Is there no end to the bad decision-making and incompetence of this government?

I don't think there will be many who would be against the idea of major sentencing reforms being brought in, of which the example you refer to above would only form a small part. Who hasn't, in the very recent past thought that a sentence dished out has been unduly lenient. Regarding the dangerous driving issue surely this is attempting to deter the ****holes racing through towns and cities usually high on drugs and/or alcohol or doing 130mph up the M6 rather than putting someone away for life after someone has stepped out in front of them whilst they were doing 32mph in a 30.
But in answer to your question....No, I can't see an and to it.
We are being led by a blundering buffoon who has surrounded himself with yes men - you just have to check back to see the caliber of some of those he sacked or who resigned on principal following Brexit. The die was cast then and we are now reaping what was sown.
He is now intent on breaking international law, but hey, we are Ingerlund, we can do what we want!
We will see.
