Squad for 2022/23

Something must have been agreed between Simmo and the club. He made the point over and over he didn't want to stay if nothing changed. What he's been promised and if it happens is another thing, but I don't think he will have been told we can only afford the bargain bucket otherwise I don't think he would still be here.

He's been saying that for 18 months Trevor. He's just enjoying seeing the custodians squirm, regardless of the impact on the club.

Charters has been doing well at Gateshead , although "Well " at national north level is very different to league 2 . He'll be 21 next season , still young but if we do offer him a deal it will probably be his last season to try and break through.

Apart from the Walsall match last season I can't recall a good performance.

I doubt Simmo would have signed a 3 yr contract if he was told he had to shop in the yellow goods section.

How anyone can argue for keeping the likes of Devine, McD
onald or Mellor is beyond me. If we keep them then we can expect similar results next season. They aren't dreadful but we should be aiming higher now.

We won the Euromillions or something? What are we going to pay all these higher calibre players with? We are still haemorrhaging £500K a year, Jenkins has turned off the taps, Day has left the phone off the hook and we haven't got a pot to pee in.

Yes Simmo may be good at polishing a turd but may be best to rein in expectations.

I feel that we're going to see a good number go but not a full clear out, from other statements made , it sounds like he feels that they are some underperforming players before he joined he can develop.

Howard and Feeney are decent, I'd keep them. Riley and Mellor too, but more in a squad sense.

Of those under contract I’d hope they’d move on Mellish, Whelan and Abrahams.

Of those out of contract keep Feeney and Riley and possibly Howard.

Norman, Dickinson. Allesandra. McDonald. Mellor. I’d exit. I can’t see Riley sticking around. Those waves freed up should be enough to get in 3-5 good players.

I think we need a keeper. Howard can't go on forever.

All the 4, armer, Mellor, Dickinson, Senior, full backs have struggled because of fitness. Dickinson, because of previous injuries. I'm worried about senior, I hope he will come back at 100%. A loanee who could play both sides with pace would be very useful.

Centre midfield. Devitt was good for half a dozen games. Guy has played well. The rest? Devine and whelan aren't up to much. Riley looks OK but no one plays him. I think we need 1 or two in. Someone who can pick the ball up, carry it 20 yards forward and lay off a paddy.

Gibson looks good on the right, need a copy on the left. If Patrick is going to play number 9, we need someone with pace on the left. Dickinson and armer are too slow to attack.

Up front Dennis is intelligent but not prolific. Toby gets in good positions but neither look great without Patrick. A target man would be a good variant.

Wighton is still on loan at arbroath and looking for a club. Colchester reserve keeper is well thought of. We need a target list. We have a good base in the squad, but we need the right balance.

Craig Wighton who I’ve seen play and is awful and the Colchester reserve keeper? Glad your not in charge of recruitment next season. If Simmo’s here next season we will be going for some established quality players.
