Now the GE is done and dusted, and with MP’s returning to Parliament today to begin being sworn in, we’ve locked the GE Thread last night, and you can now use this one for any Westminster related stuff.

Anything Brexit related will be moved to the ongoing Brexit Thread!

If you are quoting, please add a link to back it up. Post without and the quote may be removed.

Thanks.

Having taken away the right of the disabled (and everyone else) to have their dwp assessment sent to their gp Boris has now given vast exemptions to the accessibility rules on trains. Can't appeal your fit to work assessment, can't travel by train. Nothing like hurting the disabled eh? Welcome to England 2020

About time somebody sorted out the disabled situation on trains

One disabled person can cause the cancellation of a train inconveniencing 350 other people and when they're offered a door to door taxi alternative they turn it down because the taxi hasn't got the toilet the train has.

TPE Had to scrap using three trains just because the bogs weren't compliant when some disabled woman took it legal meaning thousands of people a week lost their train services.

And then we have that loony woman who got the Welsh VirginTrain Manager sacked and then tried to use the train again forcing the staff on that one to refuse to move it if she was allowed on. Luckily on that occasion a BTP plod took her to one side for a chat while she did the train left.

Most disabled people book 48 hours in advance and it works well its just a small minority that spoil it for the rest.

I think over the next 5 years you're going to be a very angry man Marko as Boris sweeps away loads of crap that's holding this country back so maybe you can explain to me why when people get their DWP assessment results they cant just press the forward button to send them to their GP.

Good old Sara - Why should she have to accept a taxi ride, taking over an hour longer, instead of going on a train with room. Her previous complaint put paid to that really, but her issue was valid.

Why can a disabled person not spontaniously go somewhere on the train, like an able bodied person can, and have to book 48 hours in advance. 2 disabled spaces per carridge is sufficient, but the issue i've seen is getting the help to use the ramps.

Sounds very reasonable, this is a football board and let's remember what they said.

Three sub-headings followed the controversial headline, consisting of: "some fans picked pockets of victims", "some fans urinated on the brave cops" and "some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life".

The newspaper stated that information of Liverpool fans' supposed behaviour was fed to them by police inspector Gordon Sykes, in which he stated that Liverpool fans had pickpocketed the dead – in addition to other accusations by unnamed police officers as well as Conservative MP Irvine Patnick.

Boris Johnson has apologised for an article in the Spectator magazine in 2004 when he was editor which claimed that drunken fans were partly responsible for the Hillsborough tragedy.

Accusing Liverpudlians of wallowing in their "victim status", the editorial published in 2004 stated: "The deaths of more than 50 Liverpool football supporters at Hillsborough in 1989 was undeniably a greater tragedy than the single death, however horrible, of Mr Bigley; but that is no excuse for Liverpool's failure to acknowledge, even to this day, the part played in the disaster by drunken fans at the back of the crowd who mindlessly tried to fight their way into the ground that Saturday afternoon."

Let the organised apologies for Boris and synchronised cap doffing for our betters begin

It seems Marko that the person on the street didn't really care about anything historic or even skulduggery on far away shores - it was black and white as in Leave or Remain that this election was about.

And for that you can blame Corbyn for blocking anything leave and committing political suicide by forcing an election by doing so.

I see he is doing a Nixon and refusing to budge yet.

They can

Just make their own arrangements like everybody else has to and in the case of a disabled person if they don't want to book assistance 48 hours in advance then take their own assistance with them there isn't a case on this planet for letting one person inconvenience the other 350 people on the train whether they're disabled or not.

Virgin missed a trick there they should have taken out an injunction and banned her from all their trains and stations you only have to read her twitter feed to see what her game is but when they didn't their staff stepped up and did their job for them and backed their colleague 100%

I think you're going to be another Marko seething with indignation Mullen because I can tell you now under Boris it will be survival of the fittest he who shouts loudest and punches the hardest will get what they which is exactly how the world should be.

Mind you I didn't have you down as a winger I saw you as someone who just got on with it. Just shows how wrong you can be eh.

I was hoping you took a bite NS - I wanted to see what you'd say and you're partly right.

As for Sara, truth be told I can't stand the woman. She's giving people with autism a really bad name and I've no idea what she advocating apart from being a pain in the arse. I actually met her at an autism event and she wanted to be the centre of attention (If you have autism to her supposed level, it's not something you really want to be). However her issue was valid, the way she went about it wasn't - she now has a vendetta against all train staff and won't stop to she gets them all sacked.

If you're a disabled person and you have your own assistance, then yes - but what happens if you want to be independent? say a blind person with a dog who just needs assistance to go to the correct platform/carriage. This isn't a great request but now the station staff won't help and say you have to book.

Agree, it is going to be a self-interest country - but what's going to happen to those without a voice and unable to stand up for themselves - what do there do?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Johnson has an affair with that Trudy Harrison.

I get the independence bit but one thing our country is still good at is helping those that we see as struggling, there would be a queue of people willing to help.

Saying that, fairly recently I was on Currock Road and there was an old lady stood there for ages opposite the dentists shaking and staring at the dentists, I offered to help her across the road and she looked disgusted with me and stormed off in the direction of The Bog Road.

You should see the response she gets on the autistic forums.

She may have autism but she’s giving people with autism and disability in general a bad name by naming shaming train staff and telling other people to do the same.

She actually makes money of her podcast/FB page and has created a page asking for money to pay for her lifestyle.

That's exactly what I meant earlier shes not doing the disability case one iota of good.

And all it took was one like her to scupper those TPE trains causing misery for thousands of travellers for the best part of two years

Being out of the EU - we can then adjust the rules for our own needs.

The problem is they may go too far but I tend to agree with you NS, common sense has to prevail - no reason they couldn’t put the trains on and used the reasonable adjustments criteria by putting on an accessible one straight after.

As I think the Torys are planning, to get rid or change the disabilities act to remove reasonable adjustments - it opens up people to be discriminatory again.

Just using this as an example: My mate who got banned from the away busses for being loud due to his disability wouldn’t have any recourse whatsoever and they’d be free to do that under the new rules. To me that’s discrimination but one person tends to spoil it for all.

That’s why disabled people are worrying leaving the EU and worrying about a Tory government because they think all the advances we’ve had will be wiped out in an instant and disabled people back to being 2nd class citizens

Difficult one, a physical disability is easy to recognise, and in reality should be easy to deal with, however there has to be compromise, it is very difficult to make everything disability friendly all the time.

However, where is the end, and where we do we (if we have to) draw a line.

Mental disability is sometimes very difficult to see, and certainly for most, not easy to deal with especially within our public services.

The overweight issue is getting higher and higher up the agenda, making provision for immobile people who require extra room etc.

Thankfully I have no disability, but a family member was wheelchair bound and I visited many public events throughout the UK with him, long before (40 years ago) there was any real provision for disabled people, but we always managed.

If you mean the ex Pretendolino stock, more to do with not having any trained drivers, guards or even locos. One ran Manchester Airport-Manchester Picc late on Dec 30th one year to fulfill some franchise commitment to run a loco hauled service by 31st December, but these were always going to be a non starter, kindly given an excuse not to run.
Id be more inclined to ask why theres brand new sets of the Spanish crap coaches stored at Longtown, that have never turned a wheel in service.

This loon lives over the hill from me near Consett-in her amazing career with Corbyn, she has lost a safe council seat in Northumberland and lost a 9000 majority in the recent election.Of course it’s nothing to do with her-it’s all Blair’s fault. To remind all, he stood down 13 years ago.
