Well, I thought it'd be good to have a thread for people to put on what they are listening to at the moment. Always good to gear what other people are listening to as nothing like hearing a new band or record you don't know and it seems lots of you good people love your music.
So, to kick off I've had New Gold Dream by Simple Minds on repeat today. Can't say I cared for their later stuff but this record, well, it's just great and reminiscent of the shimmery, hazy Summer days of youth when you had not a care in the world.

Seriously impressive, this lot. Understated but perfectly articulated drumming, hypnotic bass, and unbelievable guitar tone from Mark Speer’s Strat.
Simply put, this is quite possibly the best live performance I’ve ever seen.

In the mid 70s it was either punk or disco. So we had to hunt down bands like Budgie. Tygers of Pan Tan, Toad the wet sprocket, Girlschool, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Ethel the Frog, Lightening Raiders. They would do these tiny little venues like Poole arts hall or Swindon market hall. Sometimes there would be so many people you couldn't move, other times no one at all.
Reading 81 was the breakthrough, I thought Budgie would go all the way then.

Sounds was my bible in the late 70s and 80s. I still remember some of the front pages, and the writers; Gary Bushell and ‘Deaf’ Geoff Barton among them) Apart from the usual interviews and reviews was the news of up coming band tours. I used to buy tickets by sending away a cheque to the box office of the venue (most often Newcastle City Hall, but loads of other venues and out door festivals; Reading, Donington, Milton Keynes, Knebworth) and always received the tickets within a few days.
