Got space in my car for three (four at a push but it'd be cramped!) Setting off from Liverpool about half 9/10ish, depending on who wants a lift will go via M62 and M6 so can pick up Manchester-ish/Lancashire and on route.

Let me know here if interested.]]>

THECUMBRIANS.NET FORUM RULES - by: BoardAdmin https://thecumbrians.net/index.php/cufc-forum/main-forum/2419-thecumbrians-net-forum-rules#44110 https://thecumbrians.net/index.php/cufc-forum/main-forum/2419-thecumbrians-net-forum-rules#44110
By using TheCumbrians.Net, you agree to abide by the forum rules as detailed below, and accept the way the forum is run.

User Registration

It is not permitted to register to TheCumbrians.Net with multiple accounts. Anybody found doing so will have their accounts banned.

Moderation

TheCumbrians.Net is moderated by a number of posters, who on a daily basis are trusted to manage the basic content of the forum, and use their discretion when doing so. Whilst the forum is monitored regularly, due to the number of registered members, and posts submitted every day, there may be occasions where some posts go unnoticed. Moderators cannot, and are not expected to read every single post.

Deleted Posts or Topics

Whilst this is primarily a Carlisle United FC forum, there are very few topics which are off-limits. That said, the following are likely to experience closer scrutiny and may be deleted without explanation:

Sexism, Racism, Homophobia or Disability

The subjects of sexism, racism and sexuality are common. In the majority of cases, a healthy and informative debate takes place; however any abuse of posters, players or people in general based on their race, religion, gender, politics or sexuality is not acceptable; neither is abuse based upon disability.

For the purposes of using TheCumbrians.Net, we accept that there will be a degree of banter that will cross the line for some posters earlier than others, and some discretion on behalf of those Moderating the forum will have to be exercised. Posters should consider however; that not all Moderators will have the same views as to what has passed beyond banter, into offence.

For this reason, we advise all posters to apply common sense. If you think you are treading a bit close to the line, then back off a bit. If you think that something you're about to post is likely to offend another forum member, then we recommend you don't post it. All Moderators have the right to edit, or delete posts or topics at their own discretion.

Personal attacks, threats or obscenities towards other posters

As with the subjects mentioned above, we accept that there is, and always will be a degree of banter. However, all users take full responsibility for what you post. Again, if a Moderator deems that your posts are treading the line of what is acceptable, then they may be deleted.

Libellous or Defamatory content

It is not permitted to post anything that could be deemed libellous or considered defamatory. This includes repeating information from another source that could be considered libellous/defamatory unless it can be absolutely proven with documentary evidence in a court of law. It is no defence whatsoever in terms of guilt to say that "someone else said it first".

Posters may be liable if they post libellous/defamatory comments. If the site Administrator receives any formal complaints regarding libellous/defamatory content, we will pass on any available records requested regarding the offending user. If a Moderator sees a post or topic that they feel could be construed as libellous or defamatory then they have the right to delete it, without explanation.

TheCumbrians.Net will do its best to attempt to keep all messages on this forum respectful and within the forum rules, but it is impossible for us to review every message. All messages expressed by the poster are views of the author, and TheCumbrians.Net will not be held responsible for the content of any message.

Topic/Post Subject and Content

Whilst posting on TheCumbrians.Net, there are a few things that we ask you bear in mind.

Please avoid subject duplication. Occasionally a topic may be deleted because it is either old news, or there is already an existing thread on the subject. If you have an issue with something posted in a particular topic, address it within the existing topic. Do not create a new topic to make your point.

Posters are advised to use the correct sub-forum when posting. Moderators have the right to move any topic into a different sub-forum. Any poster found to be continually posting topics in the wrong sub-forum may have their account temporarily suspended.

TheCumbrians.Net is open to all ages; however we accept that occasional swearing will take place. Some swear words may be filtered out. We request that you do not attempt to by-pass the swear filter in any way. Any user found to be purposely doing so may have their account suspended, or banned. If you do feel the need to use expletives, please do not put them in topic subjects. Moderators have the right to edit, or delete any post or topic containing swearing.

Nudity is generally 'Not Safe For Work'. Images or URL's of a pornographic nature are not welcome, and will be deleted. Any user repeatedly posting such material will likely have their account banned.

Links posted on TheCumbrians.Net are not checked by the site Administrator, or Moderators, and therefore you accept that you open them at your own risk. TheCumbrians.Net do not accept any responsibility for any viruses or malicious content that gets onto your machine as a result of visiting external websites.

Suspensions and Bans

Account bans will only be carried out by site Administrators; however Moderators will have the ability to temporarily suspend accounts for review, or for a cooling off period.

In the case of a serious abuse of the site, a straight ban will occur. In most cases, the user concerned will receive a warning that their behaviour is unacceptable. If the poster fails to address the points raised by the site Administrator or Moderator, then a ban may occur.

If a banned member wishes to return to TheCumbrians.Net, then they need to send an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. requesting permission to do so. Registering under a different username or email address will lead to that account being banned, and as a result will likely remove any possibility of the banned user ever being allowed to return to the forum.

Complaints / Reporting

If you wish to make a complaint against a particular post/thread, please use the 'Report' function, and the situation will be reviewed by a forum Administrator. If you wish to make a complaint about another user, Moderator or Administrator, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. All complaints will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Complaints made public on the forum will be removed.

Applying for a Moderator position

If you would like to help moderate the forum, in accordance with the rules above, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Very easy to do on the W&C, given it's a standalone line between two stations.

Would require entire resignalling on several lines to be rolled out across the network - I pity the poor sods who get that gig!

Ross Balderstone wrote: Every season there are 4 or 5 National League clubs that really go for it and 'bet the farm'. There are also several others that are financially stronger than Barrow.
Barrow are often outbid in terms of both transfer fees and wages by other National League clubs, Casson will not over pay. BBCRC's Andy Wood is keeping in touch with the National League club budgets and transfers. The result of such diligence is that this season he expects Barrow to at best finish 10th, more likely 12th. Barrow are not one of the best paying clubs in their league. Of course money talks and Barrow will not shout. Last season was the ceiling, not the floor.
Bennett knows how high he can get now. He will leave Barrow but I doubt that he will join Carlisle United. If Carlisle United pay the rumoured £50,000 this will incense the creditors of the club and the legal pressure would be on. Obviously the current Carlisle United owners will not look to the club's future because they will fuck off by the end of the year.

Do you actually know the club has a list of creditors and is struggling to pay its bills or are you guessing based on their previous budget handling?]]>

triskelionblue wrote: apparently the age of the Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old

humans have been around what? well supposedly we evolved 200,000 years ago and modern civilization as we know it has only been around 6,000 years and it is only the last 100 we learned to fly aircraft etc.

so there well may be life on other planets but the chances of us co-existing during the same time frame as probably pretty slim.

Hallam Hope probably has more chance of scoring 20 goals in a season than that.

Ah, you point us towards the Fermi Paradox, which has lots of different explanations.

Also there may be intelligent life out there which is non technological and thus not detectable from a long way away. There was intelligent life on Earth 6,000 years ago, indeed some would say even 200,000 years ago but not detectable from a vast distance away. Intelligent and technological life is all that we can currently search for.

Here is one aspect of the Fermi Paradox addressed. Arguably, we became technological round about 1900 with the use of radio. Within 60 years the then four major powers each had the means to terminate all life on Earth. So we could have been detectable for a mere 60 years and then gone unnoticed. This may have happened elsewhere.]]>

The £1 million facility will by now have been more than used up. Perhaps it has been increased, which obviously cedes power to EWM. Unlike the loans from Jenkins, Nixon and Pattison this is debt that is actually collectable on demand, with the ownership of Brunton Park changing hands upon default, but that just represents the first million. Clearly at this time of year nearly all tier 4 clubs will be losing money, albeit this deficit being reduced by season ticket sales. Carlisle United will of course be losing significuntly more by virtue of the ineptitude of the three main owners.

A total clearout of at least Jenkins, Nixon, Pattison and Clibbens is urgently needed. Jenkins, Nixon and Pattison desperately need to escape. Any potential new owner can just relax and watch the situation deteriorate, with no need for that person to do a deal. There will be no negotiations, the three twats are utterly fucked.

Not for what we used them for, Oracle implementation. They have to be on site to understand the user needs, design input screens, run the testing and give the training. You can't do that remotely.

It's not that the company is close to the wire Marko... of course they could find it... but that is money that we need to put back into expanding the company, exploring new markets and products... it is money that won't benefit the company or earn and additional income... you could argue that the staff would be more productive... but it's call centre workers we are talking about, so there is a small benefit at best. It is money that hasn't been budgeted for. Small companies can't jyst aboard additional costs and still be just as competitive... it's just not possible. Particularly if you are hit with corporate tax increases during potential tricky Brexit period. It's easier just to let a few employees go and remove that risk... the rest would just have to cover extra calls or the customer would have to wait a minute longer. A lot if I dustries won't have an issue with it because they can put prices up. We can't as we are in a global market place. Ironically our owner is a jock and a bit of a socialist at heart.

Oh and the company isn't close to losing money... We grew revenue by over 20% last year... but we have saturated the UK market and are getting into newer geographic markets... which is very expensive. Due diligence on each new market and legal advice is about £25k per country.these new markets are there for the taking but we have to control Labour costs as we are getting hit with these other legal costs.

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Good to see us Scots are leading the way south of the Border! Glad its going well. Again you know your company much better than I do. My impression is that your business is technical, if you can retain staff in the call centre, is there not a value in that? Not having to retrain etc. In new geographical markets are they English speaking? Or do you need new call centres situated in France, Germany etc?

You are bang on Marko. It's a technical industry. Yes you are correct there is a benefit to retaining call centre members in terms of service...but that is relatively small compared to the danage caused by reducing funds available to innovate new products and enter new markets.

We will need to recruit foreign language speakers for each new market... normally at least 3 per market. We are working closely with universities in the North East to give new language graduates an opportunity but we had discussed moving the call centre abroad as part of contingency plans for Corbyn. Ideally we want to retain those jobs in the UK if possible. Poland is the other location we were considering as we have a small team over there already looking after the Polish market for us. I'd love to pay the call centre staff more but the reality is we are competing with people who have outsourced centres already. Any increase in Labour costs makes overseas outsourcing more likely... that is the reality. We want to avoid it as we win on service levels... but it is a fine balance

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

I.m pretty sure the Labour manifesto mentions legislating penalising companies who make people redundant here and outsource their jobs so that may not be an option either very soon.

I'd like to see how that would work... there is not a chance in hell you could make tgat stand up legally. As long as correct employment procedure is followed regarding redundancies, how the hell could the UK government prevent a company opening an office in another state? Not a chance that is workable.

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Pretty simple really you just add overseas operations into the legistlation that already exists

Like you cant close a call centre down in one part of the country where wages and rents are high making people redundant and open up in a depressed part of the country with lower wages and costs.

Simplest way to explain is you dont make people redundant you make jobs redundant and you cant do that and then re create them at a lower cost doing abroad is exactly the same just needs including in the legislation to make it illegal.

Which would simply force companies to bring forward outsourcing decisions and make positions in UK call centres redundant earlier to beat the legislation. It's a typical Corbyn idea .. in theory it sounds great until you look at what would happen in reality and how companies will react.

The reality is that it is pretty easy for companies to get around redundancy rules... first there is paying a decent wedge for voluntary redundancy. Second you just scrap the role and then you give the new role a different job title, job description and you change something in the way the work is carried out... hey Presto it's a new totally different job. That happened to me a few years ago... the massive company I worked for made us all redundant... created almost identical jobs with a different title but different terms (lower basic and higher commission ) and we couple apply for the "new" jobs.

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

And thats exactly the sort of things that a government with social injustice at its heart would stop companies from doing Plenty of ways of achieving that. iI know a company who were formally based in Cumbria did exactly what you describe guess what happened the next time they tried to apply for some government grants. They were reminded of those redundancies and how much it was about to cost them.

Bite the bullet pay the money and deal with whatever comes

And then take the credit with doing your bit towards funding the NHS Social care Emergency services etc as people on £10 need to claim less in "in work" benefits and might even be liable for a bit of tax.

All it does is transfer the responsibility for meeting our responsibilities to society from the individual to companies

I.ll bet if the 10 highest earners all reduced their pay by 10% it would go a long way to meeting the companys increased minimum wage costs]]>

journalisted.com/malcolm-nugent

Worked for the Sun newspaper which is a little strange as at last weeks conference the FSF and trust movement in general voted to accept a motion of boycott against the Sun

Motion 2: Boycott of The Sun newspaper

The FSF requests its members and affiliated supporters groups and trusts to call on all retailers and vendors of newspapers in their area to stop selling The Sun.

Vote - Motion carried

Wonder if the CUSAT chairman has got round to removing them from sale in his shop yet.

Clearly theyre just getting someone onto the board to pedal their "Operation Arselick Jenkins" propaganda for them.

I know one or two of them pubs from my time in Worksop and theyre really not the most salubrious of places to be holding board meetings.

Sounds a whole lot more fun in an hour there than in 9 years of the Grey Men of Brunton Park]]>

Stobarts are normally quite efficient so travelling from one of their own airports to another one of their own airports should be a doddle for them.

And whats the bets that by the time it goes to court Duckenfeld has had another funny turn and is deemed unfit to plead

As well as numerous organisations against who there was enough evidence to charge that arent being charged simply because the current organisation or company isnt the same entity as the one who committed the offence and in the case of SWFC unless I..ve missed an administration or two its the same company who held the FL share at the time of the disaster as is the one who does today so god knows why they cant be charged i dont see what difference who actually owns it now makes whatsoever. Surely that just means now that if your company is facing possible corporate manslaughter charges just get your mate to takeover and youre in the clear.

And why South Yorkshire Police have got off with this is beyond me as its pretty certain that the decision to cut the cost of the police operation by 33% from the same game the season before which without doubt was the real reason this disaster occurred was taken a few pay grades above Duckenfield as would be the decision to appoint him in the first place despite him having no experience in managing events of that scale.

Would of been better to charge and try the lot of them get a guilty verdict and then accept that theres nobody to actualy punish as i thought the whole point of corporate manslaughter was to get a result against the company or organisation and who currently owns it shouldnt make a jot of difference.

But for me the one whos got away with this big style is the original coroner just about everything he did he got wrong from setting up the morgue at the ground to taking blood for alcohol tests from dead bodies thru to blatantly declaring that all the victims were dead by 3.21 pm when it was patently obvious that many of them werent.]]>
