Carlisle Pubs Thread

Considering bar owners were crying out during Covid, l find it very odd that we couldn’t get in The Last Zebra this evening, and 301 miles on the station literally had no beer at 17:30. Strange way to run businesses.
Straight into Woodrows served a lovely pint of mild in less than a minute. There’s obviously more money to be made out of the beatiful people that go to wanky cocktail and gin bars .

I made exactly the same point about The Last Zebra on this thread a few weeks ago. I genuinely don't understand the business model that these bar owners are following.

The Royal Scot shut it’s doors last night, apparently awaiting new folk to run it (That was the tale at the Reiver originally, and it never did!) and don’t think the Joiners Arms doors ever reopened?

What’s left up that end? The Sailor and The Museum?!

The pub/club game is dying on its arse and is only going to get worse. Saturday night is the only busy (ish) night now.

You do wonder how some of the smaller bars survive with a smattering of trade on a Fri and a decent Sat!

Supermarket sales have made a big dent in pub sales.

You only have to observe the checkouts for a few minutes to see the number of trollies containing alcohol.

The proposed duty changes should help pubs selling draught beer. People like me got into the habit during the lockdowns of stocking up with bottles from Tesco which doesn't help. Wetherspoons pubs seem to be doing a cracking trade while neighbourhood pubs close down. I'm planning a trip to Norfolk this week for my mate's closing down party as the pub shuts for the site to be developed for housing. Often I've been the only customer in there at lunchtime since they stopped serving food.

Four and a half years since this Thread started with that Pub!

It has progressed a bit lately, kids playground is complete and the piles of soil have gone. No idea about the inside though

More of an eatery, but The Quarter Lounge in Treasury Court has announced it’s shutting on Sunday.

The Tribe at Bitts Park has seen the Parent Co voluntarily liquidated and cease trading.

Shame, decent concept, based on Box Parks but a little out of the way…
