That Australian bloke we met confirmed to us recently that Fosters is considered shite in Australia, I thought it was a myth and with a wry grin he said that it was so crap that it why they send it to us lot.

He did say though that there is a rare export version that isn't as bad but is hard to come by.

He was on the Theakstons Best Bitter and was savouring every mouthful - he said that they didn't do ale like that over in Australia.

You lot must be a right hoot on a night oot sitting in the corner sipping Tommy Hobgobbler or some other godforsaken pish that you think you must drink because its been recommended by some clown with a beard.

Lager was invented for Women as they found the beer a bit too heavy or harsh. Any bloke supping the stuff over the age of 21 must have more feminine tastes.

Weird that you should say that as when I was younger I found the taste of ale flat and disgusting and I much preferred lager which tasted a bit fizzier and more like pop.

I could probably force myself to have a Stella if there was nothing else on tap but would choose a Guinness or Strongbow over a lager most times now.

I think that you are right and it is an age thing - Peter pan is probably still drinking Carling ffs.

Had a couple of pints of IPA in the fire station last not it wasn't bad. Can't remember what brand it was.

Yes they are Doing a decent Hugh,Pugh,Barney MacGrew,Hibble, Dibble Stout currently.

Best I've had from a bottle. Pumps I can't remember cos rarely drink in a pub the same so always try different stuff.

Having a Hobgoblin at the moment, it's the nicest I've had so far.

I had my first pint of Corby Blonde during the week but I prefer their ale. Bought a couple of bottles of 'Middle Aged Spread' on offer at the Co-op at the moment, comes from Appleby Brewery, I went back the next day to stock up with a few of them, excellent if you like a dark pint.

Funnily enough if you go to Corby then it is like being in Glasgow.

No it wasn’t.

It evolved in Bavaria, as they couldn’t brew in Summer, so they had to work out ways to get around it. They stored, or ‘lagered’, in dark places, often caves and such.

Eventually some breweries experimented and came across better recipes for cool beers and lager took off...

The Oktoberfest is traditionally when the previous Spring’s beers are tapped. It was only in the last 100 years or so, that malting was advanced enough to produce light beers- the traditional floor malts were over beech, so everything had a smokey flavour.
Rauchbiers still do this.
Lager (any colour) is fermented at a much lower temperature than ale, the yeast having evolved to do so.

About 15 of us from work going on Huddersfield to Manchester Ale trail on Saturday really looking forward to itgetting through Sunday is probably gonna be struggle mind.

Belhaven Best is a lovely pint in the Crown at Stanwix and even though it’s the cheapest of the cheap in supermarkets I enjoy a bottle of Banks’s Amber Bitter. However, I defy anyone to go into The Magpie and not enjoy a pint of Sovereign Bitter, £2.04 a pint and the best in the town!

Always meant to give the Magpie a go just to destroy my teeth on the Pork Crackling and basically to see if the beer is any good.

Was going past The Currock today and thought I would give it a shot but it was closed, or at least it looked closed.

Mark messenger back in the currock. I'm still boycotting it unfortunately as the Belhaven in there is a very good pint. Mark being back in there might just persuade me back in, as he's a decent landlord & knows how to look after his beer

Yeah it was about *cough* quarter past three and I was in the vicinity.

You aren't going to make much cash if you don't cater for the older crowd who aren't interested in picking up bewers like the young ones in the evening

A few light ales early doors is the way forward.

Pub games and folk enjoying themselves around you is a real joy.

Sat in takeaway near home had a really good good day out only very slightly spoilt by youngsters who don't realise when they get their drinks to move away from bar busy but very good natured gonna do it again midweek with just a few of us from work

Bad Co do a nice IPA and it's available in Asda. That and Hobgoblin are my favourites so far.

Sod knows if it is an IPA but that guest beer in The Joiners is a winner and a blonde ale.

Good day it was, a Villa fan was up for the day and well happy - a decent bloke celebrating good news that went above Villa going up so all was well for him, good stuff.

Didn't feel too good today but my pal had had some bad news and I went to show some solidarity, turns out that he had been feeling bad also and didn't want to leave the house but it was a great day and I am so glad I pulled myself out it and went and so was he.

The place was buzzing with a happy atmosphere - surely that is what it is all about.

What's it called then Munchy? I had a look at the Joiners on "Untappd" and it only showed one check in recently for a Theakston beer called Tour de wot... something to do with cycling..
So if anyone likes beer and the places that sell it, you can get Untappd on your mobile or as a website (not as handy when your out and about, away games for example)

They always have silly names GB and I never remember them, if you look at the bar in the Joiners it is the furthest pump to your right.

Very nice it is, a cracking pint - I would recommend trying it before it changes as they do change them sharpish sometimes.

My favourite brew in there is Four And Twenty that used to come in around the Cheltenham horse racing season but haven't seen it for a while now which is a shame, now that was a pint to savour.

Can't say I will make it to the Joiners, besides I'm a Penrith monger, would I be safe walking in there?

You would be well safe pal - you could probably lay claim to be the youngest and hardest in there as well

Just a lovely pub to while away a few hours in with good friendly company - fancied a few more scoops today but I will refrain till next week.

I think that Hobgoblin is a seasonal ale at The Joiners and only comes in at Halloween - very nice as well, think it is around the 5% mark.

The latest guest ale in The Joiners is London Pride, a very nice bitter and is around 4.1% so nothing too naughty.

They still do their regular blonde IPA, hit and miss as with all IPA's as they can be a bit sour if nobody is buying it, I would scrap that one to be honest and go for another guest beer Four And Twenty is a beauty but my pal prefers Grousebeater when it comes in.

The one at Christmas tasted of Christmas Pudding with extra raisins - tried it once but we wouldn't even touch that when it went down to a quid a pint, saying that it was 5% and an alchie could have gotten off their tits for a tenner.

I'm not impressed by Hobgoblin IPA but King Goblin Special Reserve 6.6% ale is 'king amazing. Probably one of the best ales I've tasted.

I think the Gosling sometimes has one one.

One of my favourites is Robinson's Trooper 666. It's 6.6 abv lovely flavour

Yeah the 6.6 is a bit too strong for me - I would be wrecked within the hour

Last time I drank it was in Lloyds £1.95 a pint. I was half pissed on a tenner, happy days
