I think it’s longer than 3 months in the usual windows but the EFL are looking at relaxing that rule too.

The biggest disgrace at the AGM was how soon it was over and how few of the independent shareholders even bothered to attend if you're not going to use the opportunities your share brings you What's the point. I.m sure there are others like me who would put ownership of one to better use. At the very minimum, they should be fighting to ensure a representative of the independent shareholders is on the board and the establishment of an independent shareholders association to create a voice.

Yes they did Nobby but they use them in a very different way to how we do and other than the two of three that they get to fill specific positions sometimes in the second half of the season with the view to signing them for the following seasons, for instance, theres a certain Blackpool player who if hes released in the summer will be a major target after spending the first half of the season there ] a sort of try before you buy but don't forget that the Stanley way of life isn't for a lot of players. And they get offered PL club players for nothing as a character building exercise by their parent clubs [ who in at least one case i know of also pay for their accommodation ] and because they trust JC, his team and the club to treat them right they continue to send them even though their chance of actually getting games has reduced as the size of Accys permanent squad has increased.

Thats because clubs fail to take advantage of holding all the cards nothing wrong in my opinion with giving 5-year contracts so long as they are subject to yearly performance reviews any player confident in his ability wouldn't have an issue with that given the security that would give him.

Theres a number of other things CUFC could do to encourage Key players to sign longer contracts move to the area and integrate more into the local community for instance i.d give the key players a guarantee to buy their houses from them when they left there was an article not long ago that indicated that was the main issue why players won't move any more in that they move to a club buy a house then move on and can't sell the house [ a few reasons for that ] so can't buy another one in the town they go to and by the time they sell the house they only have a year left at their next club so its not worth buying one. So a lot of players now set up a base stay there and accept the travelling.

Look at the number of players [ and even former players who came back once their careers finished ] who moved to the area and ended up staying until the property thing became an issue about 15 to 20 years ago.

This season only 3 players in L2 have been sold or transferred for a fee - Akinde, Pell and Boudewijn.
3 players. That's it.
So I thought with what's happened this season with us I'd have a look at how clubs have used loan players in L2.
We have actually been doing very little differently to a lot of clubs in the league in our number of loan players.
We've had 10 loan players in this year and currently have 6.
But in the division 10 clubs have had 9 or more loan players in their squad across the season.
So, not a lot of difference there compared to many.
But, what struck me with the figures and where Carlisle really do stand out is the actual number of times loan players have played.
By some distance our loan players have played more games than any other side in the league.
Our loan players have played 148 games this year.
The closest side to us is Cheltenham with 127 appearances made by loan players.
Lincoln's loan players have played just 77 times.
Now, you can of course make any argument you like with statistics but I do think the figures are interesting.
Our loan players have been more important in the sense that they have played a bigger part in the team. More appearances. More time on the pitch than any other side.
It's made us more reliant on our loan players than any other side in the division and subsequently less resilient to their loss.
When Nadesan,Yates and Sowerby left we missed them more as they played more games and were more important to the side.
To me it's felt like their loss, more than anything else, has derailed us.
Clearly loan players are part and parcel of the make up of all sides in the league.
And how else are we going to get to see Sowerby and O'Hare? I loved watching both of them.
But looking at the drop off in form of late and the statistics I think it's worth looking at how we use our loan players and structure their involvement in the club over the coming seasons.

Yes over reliance on those three has cost us obviously, but that has happened BECAUSE a certain Mr Sheridan got them playing and eventually they complimented our own players. They were only average first half of the season, and showed in patches they had something. What really hurts is, with the exception of Yates, the other two have enhanced their parent club because of their time here.
Btw Yates was seen at BP on Saturday...no Championship games.
Sometimes the loanees come good..lots of times they dont....

Yes that's right Seesaw he did get them playing and it took a while.
But, as with Pressley with O'Hare, once Sheridan got Yates and Sowerby in their best positions they flew.
Imagine if O'Hare had either of or indeed both of Nadesan and Yates ahead of him?
He'd end up with most assists in L2.
His last 2 performances in particular have, for me, been sparkling. Playing a bit further forward as well as now looking like he can take a buffeting.
He stood up really well to the physical side of things yesterday, I thought, and on a couple of occasions shrugged off challenges which would have stopped him a few weeks back.
Imagine how he'll be with even better players around him.
With him leaving at the end of his loan we have to keep Devitt.

Top work on the loan stats.

Obviously avoiding the bottom two is your aim in this league with the current lot in charge but at least if you have two year deals then there is the chance that some club will want your gem of a player.

Any player of the dream team competitions will know that even Huddersfield have a player that shines for them and I bet they are not out of contract at the end of the season like most of our lot are.

In my view,the insatiable appetite for loan players started towards the end of Abbott/Kavanagh debacle-we have been erratic ever since.The interesting stat is the one about our loan player game time-no coincidence given the state of the finances.10 years ago our loan players tended to come from higher leagues too.

If it was Clibbens doing then he has more than covered his salary in his time here once Cosgrove moves on.

You would have thought so but we only had Cosgrove on a years deal so those ones usually slip by, he is that young probably went for us contractually in getting him to sign it though.

Fat chance of any sell-ons now though as we would get done for fraud for trying to sell these players that we have on loan.
