18/19 - Grimsby (A) Match Thread

I'm trying my best to gee them on Laffy but oyesterday's performance really put the Grim into Grimsby

Yesterday was depressing and infuriating BUT, we have 2 very winnable games left, and I think if we win them we will make the play offs. Yesterday was a huge missed opportunity, just like this season will be if we do not get in, but that inquest can come at the end of the season. For now, we are still in it, we need the manager, players and supporters to give it one last push, do our job this time and I think we scrape in, if we don't we don't, but please don't fail with our job and then realise we could have made it with how results went. Could not pick 2 better games for us on paper.

I liked SP interview where he said he has in his head the changes he needs to make in the summer to improve the club on and off the pitch, this year has been a bit stop/start for a few reasons. I get the feeling he wants to rip up what has went before and start again. A good summer in the transfer window, a good pre season under SP, then we will see where we are.

I agree, yesterday was a low point, not felt like that/this for a while but still in it, and while we are, the inquests can go on hold.

Fair point Lummy but Exeter, Colchester, Newport and Oldham have it within their power to end the season ahead of us if they win all their games. If Stevenage beat Mansfield next Saturday then they too can end the season above us if they thump Cheltenham at home on the last day.

Just goes to show that anything can happen in this league and probably will.

Pressley isn't the issue the temporary custodians are 10 years of crap now... cost cutting on the playing front while two boards with Clibbins and Holdsworth wtf?

At least my mates in Yeovil will be happy 3 guaranteed points to save them from the National League on the last day of the season (if Macclesfield lose their last 2 games).

How with the play offs there for the grabbing can professional footballers not sweat their balls of for it... sadly they are just the symptom of the Club nowadays from top to bottom

What a difference 3 days can make.....only as good as your last result in fans eyes am afraid....not sure why we're even still up there...been hanging on since January...yes a wafer thin squad is down to the custodians who keep saying they want to go up. Engaging unfit/injured players is a new low......am now massively disappointed with what we have left to cobble a team from for these last two games. They clearly can't play together and we've nobody who can score a goal with ease.

All we need is a good summer in the transfer window and a good pre season under SP then we'll see we are? We certainly will see where we are. Not sure it's going to be pretty viewing though based on the last transfer window. Mark Cullen starting to make Eric Gates look like a shrewd signing

IF we win our last 2 games I do think we will make it, I think results will go for us, I’m not saying we are good enough, I’m saying if we win our two very winnable fixtures, 6 points will be enough, I could easily be wrong, I just feel this season is crazy.

As for SP, I need to hold onto something, and that is reading between the lines, he wants to start from scratch and change a mentality and ethic within the club, so I’m happy to see that happen. If it doesn’t, then he will be criticised.

Isn't that what Keith Curle tried to do and famously said he'd been told "Cumbrians don't like change" ...so good luck with that SP. To be fair KC did modernise quite a bit I think
Was yesterday's game nor very winnable? .....and look what happened like so many others that were this season especially at home. On paper everything should be great in reality it's another story.
Too many injuries, to many changes to the settled team JS was playing has done for us with a thin squad

Yes Seesaw Grimsby was very winnable, we didn't, so I am looking at the next 2 games coming up, 6 points needed, and hopefully people drop points, but we must do our job first.

Lets hope Hackney Hawley Billy and Booth can sprinkle some magic dust around this weekend eh!

Just viewed highlights this morning..... Yet again liddel at fault for goal not doing what he's supposed to be and switching off. With this type of player it's no wonder we lose games. Journeymen crap. Worst of it too hes meant to be an experienced pro having played 600 games. Utter clart that is all it is. Time and time again he's to blame for conceding goals due to been an absolute liability. Just not good enough I'm afraid but yet a safe pick it seems. Medriocricy make do is the rule of the day yet again.

I would agree that if we had a bigger squad Liddle might be rested for a game, not that he is clart but because of the amount of games that he has played.

But as said we have nobody else and look what happened when we left Gerrard out for a game - we get tanked 3-0 and even if he was playing we still would probably have got beat but not so severely.

He's a good player, Liddle, but like others at the back has made mistakes of late.
He won't be the first or the last to let a man go behind him in the dying minutes. Tired legs and mind.
Half of the side looked knackered, flat and just didn't get going and when the goal went in you could visibly see it had knocked the stuffing out of them.
Without a forward we're playing uphill.
Cullen, although probably only playing at 50% at best, did give some shape and focal point to the side.
But with Etuhu off, Thomas cramping, Glendon disappointing and Parkes, Gerrard and Liddle running out of gas, Grimsby, in truth were the side that looked like winning it in the last 10-15 minutes.
Jones could have been meatier in the tackle to prevent the cross as well as Liddle letting his man ghost in, but I can't say I blame them really.
You saw it at the end of the Lincoln game when players like Scougall, Parkes and Jones were literally gasping for air.
The squad's too small, sadly and we're seeing the ramificatons of that in every other game at the moment.
We aren't going to win many games bringing Kennedy, Glendon and Cullen on.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like there are some issues within the squad, and certainly, nobody, but nobody came close to O'Hare's desire on Saturday and when you've got a 20 year old kid urging the rest on at the end, well that's maybe a concern.
But, it is what is now and there's 2 games to go and we have a chance.
Watching the performance on Monday you'd never have believed it but we've beaten the top 3, outclassed Mansfield, thumped Colchester, outplayed Forest Green Rovers and thrashed Oldham.
And with 2 games to go we still have a chance to go up.
Absolutely bonkers.
It is the hope that kills you but without the hope what's the point?!

It's the "what if we'd beaten all those lowly teams at home" that kills me...even 2 or 3 of them we'd be laughing.

As for O'hare, if true and he was the one geeing them up on Monday...something wrong....the lads put in some shifts for us...big shame for him if we don't make it....and hes not even ours

It's bloody frustrating supporting them, Monday especially, I've calmed down now. Let's hope they redeem themselves on Saturday. If there had of been a pub near the ground I'm sure that's where I'd have been for most of the 2nd half

Yes, I was angry and I'm not even from the city and have only been going a couple of years, so can imagine how you must have been feeling Waltero.
With O'Hare, the first few games I saw him I actually thought he was a bit too fancy. A few too many flicks and he was pushed off the ball too easily.
I was more impressed with Scougall over those first few games.
But O'Hare has gotten better and better, for me.
For someone who's come from the Academy system and dropped down the leagues, I've been hugely impressed.
And again, this has been as much for his attitude as it is for his football, both of which, I have to say, have been excellent.
A fit Cullen, Nadesan or Wyke would get 20+ goals a season with O'Hare and Devitt behind them.

O'Hare was the only one who fought for the shirt and he doesn't belong to us, showed the seasoned players up. He's come on in leaps and bounds, fully committed. The lad will go far unfortunately not with us. I wish him well

Liddle was at fault but Jones was just as much, a pathetic attempt at a tackle in the middle of the park meant the lad was free to put the ball in.

Liddle’s been a consistent performer for a year and a half, especially playing alongside an experienced centre-half. However the last month or so he’s been a liability.

Just beat me too it Frank. Jones and Parkes just stood off the player who had time to look up and cross the ball and this was in the last minute.

Talk about fighting for your teammates never mind a playoff spot.

Suppose you have to make the judgement to tackle or not ...where the lad is, do you risk a penalty or at best a foul/ free kick in a bad place ...all part and parcel but if you feel it's not your day, maybe easier to take the chance and bottle it ..and hope.! Liddle's been Mr dependable for me and Parkes but like them all mental pressure has got to them....as well as physical fatigue.
Really hope we can see this out but it's a tough ask
