18/19 - Notts Co (H) Match Thread

I’m being serious about my can’t afford promotion or to sack the manager comments -we have been here several times before.I very much doubt either scenario is in the budget and the accounts about to be filed will reveal the abject and disastrous financial position arising from the last promotion push under KC.

All is not lost as we are still in with a shout of the playoffs but I don’t see any changes at the top myself

Best scenario for our BOD is to lose the play off final against MKD.

I think talk of Play-offs is a no-no. We're getting nowhere near it.

Just try something different in the next game, not 4-3-3, and not a bloody False 9 (has it ever worked for anyone?). We never gave Bennett a chance and look what he's doing at Morecambe, so give Simpson a chance as we've got nothing to loose.

Yesterday's first half performance was not good from us, but the conditions made it that way; I know people say the weather was bad for both teams, but that wasn't totally true last night. I wasn't there, but the first half weather (behind County) was better for them than it was in the second half for us. I'm not using this is an excuse for our second half performance, but I don't think you can blame the first half on our players. They did what they could and then Liddle [censored] it up.

For me, Liddle has to be dropped, as does O'Hare and Slater. If he's going to go with the 4-3-3 again, then at least try Simpson, Hope and Thomas up top, and then Etuhu, Jones and Scougall in the middle. Or just try a totally different formation.

Best performance I've seen from us under Pressley was when we went down to 10 men against Crewe; changed to a 3-5-1 and we found space and looked okay at the back (with our slow defenders); yes we lost int he end, but we still played better in a different formation.

Yes, we were shite last night, and everybody is pissed off/disappointed, but we’re more than capable of doing it.

While I agree that 1 point off the Play-Off's is very close (couldn't get much close without actually being in the play-off's), based on the performances since Pressley came in (and since loosing our best players), I cannot see it happening. We're getting to the "business end" of the season and we're not doing any business; we're on the slide. The only way this can be stopped is by trying somethings else; if it works, then great. If it doesn't, then nothing gained but at least we tried. But should Pressley still play the same god-awful formation on Saturday then we've got no chance.

I think we all need to accept that Simpson is clart, and that he's going to be brought on as a sub at best.

Whilst I think you're right, I think we give him a start. I'm not advocating Simpson as being any good, but he's something different. We don't necessarily need him to bang them in, just cause some disruption in the final third and let others provide the finishing touch.

County needed to win that game and it showed they pressed us from the start and won every first and second ball...We never got any momentum going and were happy to defend against a strong gusting wind and rain and see out the first half..Liddles pathetic back pass put paid to that... Second half we showed more commitment but basically ran out of ideas,Thomas was our best player after he came on and should start on Saturday.. Miller needs to come in instead of Liddle who`s making far to many mistakes recently and maybe even change Grainger if there is an option.

I only watched on iFollow so not really able to get the whole picture, so as to speak, but a couple of things stuck me.
Firstly, if you were a side at the bottom of the league playing against a side in the play offs, that sort of weather would have been what you were looking for.
Bit like the smaller sides in the FA Cup or Scotland famously against England decades ago - "Go to bed and pray for rain!"
It doesn't half level things up between sides of different ability.
I'm not excusing the performance which was clearly dismal and Notts obviously managed it better, for whatever reason.
Secondly, it looked like we won the toss. If we did, I thought it was odd to kick into the wind.
You're never too sure if it's going to die down or change direction so use it when it's there.
It seemed from watching on the telly that it put Notts County on the front foot from the off and it was momentum they never really relinquished.
We were penned in and I think it gave them confidence and we just couldn't get out.
On a more positive note I thought Thomas looked excellent when he came on. One shot 20 yards high and 2 other great efforts. Really showed what he is capable of.
And as someone else mentioned I thought Devitt was going to get a straight red. You could see he was frustrated with how things were going and it looked bad on the TV.
And well done to all those that went particularly after such a poor performance. The weather looked and sounded horrendous.

I dread to think how bad Glendon must be in training for him to get nowhere near this team right now.

He acts like an idiot at times, especially all his mouthing off at opposition players and the referee half the time.

The season has been going down the pan for months.

Just watched the extended highlights. Liddle has been rightly castigated for the poor back-pass for their first goal but he was only following instructions from Gerrard. You can clearly see Gerrard next to him indicating where to play it. Gerrard follows this up with giving away the penalty.

I'd forgotten Glendon was still at the club. I suspect he won't be come May...

I can't recall us actually winning a game where we've played well since Pressley took over.

What have the results been since he took over CCU?

I wouldn't blame Colin the player at fault for me was the defender in the centre circle who went charging forward from what I remember his job is to stop the player with the ball crossing the halfway lines by whatever means is necessary.

How many points has he cost us other the last few seasons because of his ill discipline?

I think Parkes needs a mention. I lost count the amount of times he dug the rest of the defenders out of the shit. Last ditch tackles because someone else was playing shit

Whoever thought Gerard needed a mention. Christ his tackle that gave the penalty was straight off the sheep mount. He probably shouted at the ref “ what! What did I do”
