Will Carlisle reach the Premier League in my lifetime?

I know I'm one of this boards most optimistic contributors but I'm afraid its a big fat NO from me. Unless of course that mystery billionaire comes out of the blue, (and even then would it be boom or bust once he/she got bored)?
A nice 'season in the sun' re: 1974/75 would be nice but it aint going to happen unfortunately.

League 1 playoffs have been the dizzy heights of my lifetime.

I doubt I’ll ever see us in the championship let alone the premier league.

Clearly it's not going to happen any time soon but you never know..
According to a rough calculation ,10 of the current 20 Premier League teams have played in the same league as Catlisle in the last 10-15 years.

The question depends on two things; money and ambition. So as things stand the answer is no.

For me a more pertinent question is will Carlisle ever make the Championship in my lifetime. Again as of now probably not.

I feel sorry for younger fans who've never seen a Carlisle team with genuine quality. Decades ago when I told people from other parts of the country that I was a Carlisle fan I felt a genuine pride, at times bordering on arrogance.

No chance. More likely to go out of the league all together, its happened before and it could happen again, except there will be no coming back next time.

It's possible. We've got one of the top coaches in the country all we need now is a billionaire.

Would never want to be a comfortable league 1 team a comfortable championship would be more acceptable.

If Wycombe and Blackpool can get to the Championship anybody can.

Under the current regime , it's a strong No. Although they are all aging and you never know what will happen in football , Who would have thought Brentford , Bournemouth etc would make the premier League 10/15 years ago .

Unless 20 odd clubs somehow all fold before we do we’ll never make the championship. I’d also say it’s unlikely we’ll be in league 1 within the next 10 years.

Never forget tho some ‘fans’ on here are happy with the vision of the club.

It's so easy to forget how lucky some of us have been to see us in the top flight.

Same here but not only that but it wasn’t just that one season from the mid 60s until the mid 70s just after the Division 1 season we were a solid Division 2 side now Championship side as well capable of beating the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Newcastle, Man United etc in Cup games

I was as season ticket holder when CUFC were in the "Premier Div."

If I slightly optimistically hope to make it through another 40 years , if the Lord spares me.
Apparently we have now had 50 different teams in the Premier League in the last 30 years.
The lower leagues are littered with rather modestly supported clubs , many of which I predict will be here today, gone tomorrow.
We must be one of a group of about 20 or so reasonably established, reasonably supported clubs that have never reached the Premier League.
Once we have overcome current struggles, it has to be possible still? No?

Any outside chance of it happening probably depends on some kid who actually supports the club going on to become an extremely wealthy entrepreneur or business person in the next 10-20 years.

In a way the club has been slightly unfortunate over the past 2 or 3 decades that those in the local business community with wealth that might have made a real difference haven’t been fans of CUFC or football in general.

Story was a glimpse of what might have been but he admitted from the outset that his heart wasn’t really in football.

But if the likes of him or Stobarts or Tinkler or someone of that ilk had grown up a Carlisle fan it might have been different. Could say the same about Day now for that matter.

Some kid from Carlisle will go on to be a massive success in some field in the coming years, just have to hope they’re a fan of the Blues.

I am no fan of the blood sucking premier league. I would be happy for us to be a constant in the Championship.

As some have alluded to already, I was lucky enough to have known Carlisle as a regular good strong second division (now Champion) team. I also watched us in the 74/75 First division, for those that missed out they are showing a few of our games on the Big Match revisited each day. We were a good footballing team.

As far as our level is we are now a mid table league two team, I do believe we should be a league one/Championship team. Will I see it no, but I can see us being a league one team in the next 10 years.
Unfortunately Harrogate and Barrow are well run and will get there before us.

We didn’t play them in the league. We were in division one when they were relegated to two.
