Very sad indeed

he was playing around the time i started watching us he was a crowd favourite and a figure of fun also, remember seeing him missing a few sitters where it seemed impossible to miss, scored plenty too mind

i remember as a kid nearly getting hit by a pildriver of his when i was stood in Warwick with my dad and uncle,we stood somewhere near the corner flag!!!!!!

bumped into him outside chivas sports with my dad as a kid in my Carlisle top and he made a right fuss of me took a few mins to talk about football with us a true gent and one of my favourite blues of all time

Rest in Peace big man

RIP ... I always remember him awkwardly falling into the Main Stand at The Valley for a few minutes during a tedious 0-0 draw in the 80s ... It just had to be him and you had to smile. He always gave 100% for Carlisle.

Will never forget Paul Bannon. A figure of fun but in the right way. Legs everywhere, and would just fall over them at random moments or halfway through an attacking move. An entertainer of the highest order. But also a good striker, and a "100 per cent-er". A crowd favourite, and rightly so. Great 'tache too. A sad day.

A favourite of mine in those days. Saw him score the goals in a 2-1 win at Millwall , the first one was a classy bit of one touch between him and Pop Robson. So sorry to hear of his passing.

That's sad! Like has been said, a crowd favourite. I think Stokoe wasn't going to keep him after we got promotion to Div 2, but the fans did and he changed his mind.
Again, as has been said, gangly and awkward, neither defenders, fans or himself knew where either he or the ball was going next, the fact that it often went into the back of the net made him a hero!

Sincere condolences also. My memory is ofAshton Gate, FA Cup replay, 5 -0 down and Paul rounded their very tall goalie twice and sliced his shot wide from 2 yards. Always 100% effort. Thank you Paul for all the memories which are being shared on this thread.

I was at that game hiding in the Millwall end and not celebrating , only player in history of the game to chest the ball down with his arms and not get penalised

Great memories of Paul from my first seasons at Brunton Park. Elderly Scottish couple near me shouting "Ach, yon Bannon needs a new pair o'boots" as he fell over for the umpteenth time, but often he would redeem himself later on with a brave finish. RIP

Remember him playing when i 1st started going in 1982.Always a willing player and had a good leap on him in the air i recall. ..never afraid to go in for those high challenges for the ball often getting a clattering...notched a couple of important goals too.

Sad news to read of his passing.R.I.P.

He was ungainly to say the least but I always liked him.

He often used to work with Steve Hoolickin in the summer doing a bit of building etc. You wouldn't get many doing that nowadays. :cheer:

Legend goes that he was to carry out of the rugby club one Friday night then scored two goals at BP the next day! Bob Stokoe used to go round the pubs the night before matches trying to catch them at it but they were always one step ahead. :)
