Don't live there but was on holiday there about 4 years ago,i got my recommendations of trip advisor,i'm going to Phuket at Easter,are you flying from Edinburgh by any chance.

The night market was excellent.

Went in 2001 and was walking down the street with my Mrs and went into a bar in my Carlisle shirt and the lad who was running it was from west Cumbria somewhere and I have a feeling his dad owned it. Had a good crack about football and and had a coke each and wandered on. Had been eating a full meal for 60 bahts each and a glass of coke cost us 90b!! was mortified!! Crack was good though

Wonder if he is viewing the message board if you think he has posted on here? Will try and look in a diary and see if I can find the name of it.

My recommendations are eat food of the street markets and get on a train and buy food off the ladies that come on the train and sell it when it stops at a station.

Get some sticky rice out of a bamboo cane and also sweet cocunut rice that they make in a 'yorkshire pudding' tin!!! (and when you get the coconut rice ask them how they make it and fetch the recipe back for my wife then we can make it !)

I can still remember the taste 14 years later!!

Will have changed by now I reckon. Was just starting to expand when we went there and becoming a resort.

Sorry about the coke price most places are 20 baht. I can still get a meal and a large beer for 100 Baht (£2)

The bar was probably Jungle Juice partly owned by one of Ralph Calvins family. I spoke to Ralph there a short while back. In new hands now as of about 6 weeks ago but still run by the same staff.
