Unfortunately it is not passed on matchday when en-route from the city centre. They serve about 8 beers on tap, all Sam Smiths of course, including 3 lagers and a cider. I tend to have the "Indian Ale" in a bottle as the bitters are more in-line with John Smiths and I like hops in my pint. I think its about £1.80 a pint.

The Indian ale is ok 5%, got a bit of hop bitterness to it - unlike everything else they do labelled "bitter". Although some of the lagers I do like...The Organic 5% one tastes more like a foreign lager and the Taddy Lager is pleasant too.. I’ve gone to the Magpie after the Saturday matches since it re-opened, and I don’t live in the area. It has a “real pub” feel and there’s very few of those in Carlisle. The previous owners spent a lot of money on the place and it was sympathetically re-developed. And it has a big log fire which I love.

With Sam Smith’s (which I like) at £1.82 and a couple who are trying to make a go of it I think it’s worth a visit before or after the game
