I've been proud to be a Carlisle United fan since the age of 7 in 1970. My Dad and his Dad long before then. My sons now..
Guess I was lucky to watch the best ever Carlisle United team and whilst in many ways it's been downhill since 1974 I have never, ever lost the faith.
The desperate times in the late 80s, early 90s, the Knighton era-fiascos, the relegation from the League (I was at Doncaster with my son on my shoulders with 1500 defiant Cumbrians for our "last" league game), The Conference, having to put up with the complete lack of sensible and credible leadership at the top level (Fred excepted there), the crazy decisions taken by our board and owners (Fred not excepted there re the Custodians etc) and many, many, many other lows have never diminished my passion and love for my club.
But now..... There comes a time when blind faith has to be questioned. A line in the sand drawn.
This last year in my view has been an outrage including,
The turning down of a £2m investment and credible business plan
The "Keith"and Dick Young fiasco involving Twittergate 1
The ridiculous and quite pathetic attempt to justify the Lapping rejection by the billionaire "story".
The then bad mouthing of Lapping and his business practices. [ironic does not do it!]
The continued failure to nip the billionaire crap in the bud
The rejection of a further £2m investment by local businessmen
The acceptance of the Fred loan write off but not writing off at least some of the other loans
And now Claire Winders resignation following the criticism of her actions in doing precisely what she was supposed to do and now, the final straw,
The Bell Twittergate 2 and its mishandling.
We are a joke. No, worse, much worse, a disgraced Club.
I feel like I did at the end of the Knighton era. I'm prepared to boycott.
I think we all now know we need to do something.
Either by not going, withdrawing sponsorship or just making our views VERY loudly known if we do go.
Those who do go need to make some gesture to the 96 who went to a football game and never came home. It's the least we can do after this week.
