TOPIC: Ratings V's Oxford

Gillespie 5 - kicking was rubbish and didn't look confident.

Miller 6 - steady enough.
Ellis 6 - same as Miller.
Grainger 5 - terrible first half, free kicks were shocking. Improved a little second half.


McQueen 7 - our best player. Good energy.
Kennedy 5 - Not great. think he has been poor for a while now.
Joyce 5 - gets stick but did what he needed to do.
Comley 6 - did OK, not sure why he got subbed.
Brough 5 - did alright, shame he got subbed.

Jabo 4 - doesn't look interested. No threat at all.
Wyke 6 - put himself about a bit.


Subs -

Gilliead 5 - same as usual no end product.
Stacey 5 - tried his best.
Asamoah - think he only touched it once.

Did you see much tho? You looked a bit busy

McQueen was our best player in my 1st half view too..Thought he got into some good positions ..one that led to a free kick of course came to nowt.Improving with a good run in the side.
Brough did ok considering he had not played for ages...some are a bit harsh on the lad at times.
Comley and Kennedy struggled again 1st half.
The 3 at the back looked way to open to start with..seemed miles apart not really in sync with each other but then it did settle down a bit.
Jabo looked really flat again.He be away soon back south.

Gillespie 6 poor distribution and kicking, one great save
McQueen 8 has done really well these last few games
Miller 6 solid
Ellis 5 old fashioned stopper, terrible distribution
Grainger 4 poor defensively, wasted several set pieces
Brough 4 really would have liked to see him do well but never in it
Kennedy 6 tired but kept going
Joyce 4 always available but usually just passes it backwards
Comley 5 tries hard but little creativity
Jabo 4 terrible first half, slightly better in 2nd
Wyke 7 did ok with little decent service

Gilliead 5 not interested
Stacey 6 tried hard to create something

Ref diire - think the standard is really low in our league - how we never got a pen in 2nd half is beyond me.

Disappointing to end home games with a whimper. We just look tired and jaded. Big clear out needed.

Gillespie 5 - Beaten to easily at his near post for the second goal, kicking was poor

Miller 6 - Was solid apart from the second goal where him and grainger were to indecisive leading to Gillepsie having no time to clear the ball.

Ellis 6 - Solid enough.
Grainger 4 - didn't put in one decent ball, freekicks were awful, got nut megged and done for pace leading to their penalty. He should have got beyond his man and got a foot in. Arguably at fault for their second goal aswell.

McQueen 7 - Lots of energy, showed a lot of willingness and tracked back well.

Kennedy 4 - Went missing for most of the game, apart from one tackle he was awful.

Joyce 4 - If he is going to play a role for us it needs to be in front of the back 4 rarely going into their half, he simply does not have the legs to track back which leaves us exposed. To weak in the air and lacks pace.

Comley 6 - He can be rash but he got stuck in and think he did ok overall.

Brough 5 - Didnt do a lot wrong but he didn't offer much. Didn't touch the ball until about 30 minutes, didn't get much support either and still think there is a good player in there somewhere.

Jabo 5 - brought the ball down well at times but he has defiantly lost the killer touch he displayed in the first half of the season, wouldn't surprise me if he goes in the summer. Has looked more like the player he was before he signed for us in the second half of the season.

Wyke 6 - Direct approach, didn't look 100% fit but he won us a few free kicks and looks like he could be a danger next season.


Subs -

Gilliead 6 - tried to make things happen a couple of nice runs and flashes of what he can do. Like somebody stated no end product.

Stacey 5 - Didnt really get into the game but did try.

Asamoah - No rating as he was on the pitch 5 minutes or so.

Ref 5 - Clearly couldn't sprint, got a couple wrong, could have booked more players, I do think he tried to let them game flow.

We need more flair and pace in the midfield, Joyce and Kennedy are to similar and don't work well together, they seem to have little impact which I think effects our strikers and leaves our defence exposed.

Gillespie 4 - dodgy keeper

Ellis 6 - As usual a wholehearted effort
Grainger 3 - poor all afternoon, his free-kicks were an absolute disgrace
Brough 4 - not in the game
McQueen 7 - lively performance
Joyce 5
Kennedy 5
Comley 6 - OK to a point but nothing special

Jabo 5 - sluggish
Wyke 6 - did OK but needs more around him.

Gilliead - just doesn't do enough for me, won't be sad to see him gone.
Stacey - see Gilliead but with slightly more effort.

Team is in a sorry state at the moment and so many players just not performing at the level they have been earlier in the season. Depressing stuff.

I didn't see the game yesterday, but I saw the recent 2 draws at Exeter and Yeovil. What's gone wrong?

Very few in this team deserve a contract for me, and our best two players for me - Dicker & Atkinson are no longer in the team.

Dicker was outstanding in the 2-0 FA Cup win at Plymouth and we looked a real force, highly motivated, difficult to break down and plenty of goal threat.

What has Atkinson done not to be selected?

At the moment our players (mostly) are relegation level and need bombed out.

Questions need to asked of our manager too, some our our team selections and tactics (if that's the right word) have been amateurish, akin to a pub side.

Harsh but true.

When we were doing well earlier in the season, it seemed surprising, but we did seem to have the habit of battling and nicking results.
I was an admirer of the battling displays, even if the quality wasn't that great.
Just about every player that has come in since January has been underwhelming.
Not sure what went wrong with the transfer activity. I am not a fan of Dicker, but reasonably expected a replacement.
Grainger, Jabo two of our most influential performers earlier in the year, have been as bad as they were good.
In some of the games I have seen lately we just look like a poor side, with poor players, yet some of the players who have looked so poor, were doing well earlier in the season.
Feels like we are back to square 1 at the moment.

I don't think Ellis was worth anywhere near a 6, he was awful, that pass across the box that should have led to a penalty for them summed his performance up.
I thought it was a definite pen and we should have had one for handball, the ref also failed to give 2 stonewall yellow cards 1 for each side. McQueen, Wyke and Stacey when he came on were decent the rest awful.

Well Ellis ain't Bobby Moore, but I have seen far, far worse defenders playing for Carlisle over recent years.
Time and time again I am seeing us waste chances, have no composure in front of goal and failing to achieve anything with the final ball.
If the ratings are a relative assessment of performances, I think there were quite a few players who were less effective in their roles yesterday.

Surprised Comley gets such high ratings. I'm usually one to praise him but yesterday he was off the pace completely, caught in bad positions, was needing too long on the ball, passes sloppy. He got dispossessed cheaply on at least 2 occasions that lead to breaks from them that should have really resulted in goals.

Wasn't surprised at all to see him taken off at half time.

Gillespie 5 looked at fault for 2nd ,megged at near post.
McQueen 7 pick of the defense , energy and drive got us forward. Miller 6 had most problems covered

Ellis 5 better 2nd half when we went 442 but left too much for Grainger to do by being out of position after being forward for set pieces
Grainger 5 prefer him further forward ,he would have been if Gillesphey had been fit ...not the captain's best day
Brough 4 tried his best and got knock for his efforts , expected more forward runs from him. Comley 4 contributed to a midfield in disarray ,holes everywhere. Joyce 5 pick of the midfield
Kennedy 4 plenty running see Comely
ibhere 5 disagree looked uninterested, tried to get on the end of balls but well marked, another difficult shift
Wyke 5 no luck in the box today ,showed some lovely touches and lay offs before limping off injury
Gillead and Stacey 4/5 respectively unable to create anything against well organised Oxford.
Asamoah.........10 minute Derek played his part this season no doubt with important goals but not getting the pitch time last few weeks !

Grainger is the worst player of the season since Cleveland Taylor.

Don't know how it wasn't a penalty, also don't know how Miller wasn't booked first half, which would have seen him sent off when he got booked second half.

Ellis 5 – Exposed when the ball came along the ground, looks much more comfortable when the ball is in the air. Sadly offers no threat at set pieces

McQueen 7 - Good energy, definitely improving, hope he will be a regular next season.
Kennedy 5 - Not great. Think he has been poor for a while now. Chronically slow, creates nothing
Joyce 3 – Made a few decent passes when Oxford dropped deep and he was given time on the ball. Standard tactic for visitors now is to give the ball to a quick forward in the centre circle, forward then runs straight forward with the ball at his feet. Joyce is so slow, reads the game so badly and cannot tackle, terrible signing. Please can we have Tom Taiwo back!
Comley 6 - Did OK, not sure why he got subbed.
Brough 5 - Did he touch the ball?

Jabo 4 – Well marshalled by their 33, he has been found out
Wyke 6 - Put himself about a bit.

Meaningless end of season game so not too bothered about the result. What would have been good though was if we had 3 or 4 young lads on the park getting experience instead we had the same old suspects plodding through the motions making the same old mistakes. Our home form is terrible. Curle has said there will be major rebuilding over the summer, God we need it. Gillespie, Raynes, Grainger, Joyce, Kennedy, just not good enough

I think you are right, several of them do, Gillespie? Others have options but have they met the conditions and do they want to stay? Ultimately we can dream!

The same failings that we've had all season were there again yesterday. We started with the wrong players in the wrong formation so we had to make major changes at half time. Then when we did have a spell when we were the better team, we failed to put the ball in the net. No team can give the ball away in their own half as much as we do and expect to win the game.

With Patrick Brough in the team we started at a huge disadvantage the lad has not got any ability and is very fortunate to have a career as a professional footballer.

I've no idea who picks them but yesterday's Man of the Match award was not announced because I couldn't believe it wasn't a wind-up!

I'd just about agree with Mush' ratings.

Tashy - The way I saw it was that Miller didn't get booked as the ref failed to show the Oxford defender a yellow for the free-kick he gave on the edge of their box. Both looked yellow cards from where I was sitting and I could be wrong but the oxford player in question might have already been booked so he therefore bottled it in sending him off.

There were two clear handballs in their area which we should've had a pen. I also felt Bowery was coming back from an offside position in the build-up to their second goal. I thought their penalty was the correct decision but it looks soft on the highlights.

I'm sick of having to listen to Away fans celebrating at the end of the season whilst we sit there in mid-table of tier 4 and the directors patting themselves on the back for a job well done as we wallow in mediocrity.

Just watched the highlights on OS and am shocked to see it was Joyce responsible for the pen ...had blamed Grainger then Ellis ...should've gone to specsavers eh! Even the sky commentator said we should've had a pen when the ball hit the lads hand in the 2nd half. Grrrrrrr
