TOPIC: Penrith

Has anyone heard a hint of when the friendly at Penrith is going to be, like going to this match as you usually get to see the full squad play.

I thing it will be announced as soon as they get the £500 together.

I posted on the Friendly Thread earlier in the week.

By accounts, CU are messing Penrith about. Penrith originally agreed on Sat 9th July, but CU decided to go to Workington on this date. Penrith then offered Tues 5th July, but were apparently playing Queen of the South behind closed doors on this date. We also play away to Kendal on Weds 6th July.

This game probably makes Penrith in the region of £5k, a huge sum at that level which can pay for a season's away travel or such. Disappointing that we haven't sorted then out. Much rather play Penrith than Warrington or even Kendal.

Penrith delayed announcing any games in the hope the situation was sorted. They now announced some games...

Shame on CU it's important to support the local sides. I really hope they can sort it out. Still no sign of any home games either disappointing.

Due to Rod Stewart concert and then relaying of new pitch a home friendly looks unlikely this season

Pardon me for been interested Melbourne, get bored after no news for a while lol. The main reason about the friendlies is I have a mate who wanted to come to Penrith game and needed date to arrange. Can't do the Wukkie one as I'm away.

Yeah but as I say just been relaid at much lauded expense and Stobarts footing the bill for transporting of it. Would we have redone it so soon this year!!

I wouldn't have thought the concert would make any difference as to whether the pitch gets relaid or not. I also agree it maybe doesn't need doing with it still being fairly new.

When we got the pitch relaid after the floods it was the last lot of turf in the country big enough to do the job and it was brilliant to have. A huge amount of work was done by the Carlisle staff and contractors and it saw us through to the end of the season, which was all it was ever expected to do when it was put down.

It was amazing just how well it took after being laid in winter BUT it certainly wasn't the same as the turf grown from seed we usually have. If you measured out a square inch on the pitch, there would be an awful lot more individual blades of grass in the seeded one, it seems much finer and yet thicker than an already grown turf.

I think the difference this season for a seeded pitch, is it's being done a good month later than normal. Normally it's reseeded before the end of May, but I guess you couldn't have thousands of Rod Stewart fans walking on a newly sprouted pitch.

They stopped using turf a long time ago. When the new pitch was laid after the 2005 floods they dug down deep enough to lay the pipes for undersoil heating and the soil put on top was a very specific mixture, that gave a free draining but still stable base, that was the ideal underpinning for a seeded pitch. Since then they have tried to just take the very top off one year and go a little deeper the next and the Brunton Park pitch has consistently been very high quality.

The pitch will be covered for the music concert, but you couldn't do that for a newly sprouted pitch. The new grass would search for the light rather than putting down strong roots.

They might keep current pitch but maybe overseed it rather than starting from scratch??

All the grass has already been removed, so in effect we don't really have a pitch at the moment. Would imagine as soon as the boards for gig are removed seeding will start.

Yeah gig this Tuesday... Same day fixtures out....so seeding has to be done asap after
