Gave away some soft goals but did well to come back from 0-2, 2-3 and 3-4

Gillespie 7 felt he could have done better for the first goal but good double save before their 2nd and a couple of good saves in 2nd half. Indecisive at times
Thompson 6 took a while to settle down but a few decent passages of play
Miller 6 again took a bit before he settled down to CB role but better 2nd half apart from 1 glaring error
Raynes 6 some good clearing headers but suspect on the ground
Grainger 6 a bit of a mixture but good cross for our 2nd and a bit steadier in 2nd half
Brough 5 poor, couple of really shocking bits of lack of control. Rightly subbed
Kennedy 6 just didn't get into it at all, wondered if he was carrying a knock
Hery 8 slow to start but worked his socks off. Should not have been subbed
Joyce 7 real howler for their 3rd but credit to him battled well in 2nd half
Wyke 7 much better than Tuesday and took his goal well
Ibehre MOTM 10 difficult to find fault with any of his play. Simply outstanding

Subs didn't really make an impact apart from a few good bits down the right from McQueen who should start ahead of Thompson on Tuesday.

The fiddling around at the back is pure overkill. OK at times but Cambridge read it so easily and put us under constant pressure forcing schoolboy errors.
We have a great target man and should be mixing the style of play to take advantage of this.

Thought Dicker should have come on for Kennedy.

Gillespie 7 - Could have done better with first goal, but kept us in it after we netted our 4th
Thompson 4 - Very poor, offered next to nothing, should have came off sooner
Miller 5 - Not bad overall but shocking pass in the lead up to their 4th goal.
Raynes 4 - Let his man go for their 1st goal, dodgy most of the game
Grainger 5 - Extra point for the cross for Ibehre's goal, distribution questionable.
Brough 5 - Offered little.
Joyce 4 - A shadow of what he looked like in pre season, shocking error for their 3rd and didn't have a good overall game.
Kennedy 5 - Not his usual self.
Hery 6- Best of a bad bunch in midfield, showed some glimpses.
Ibehre 10 - Excellent performance, took his goals superbly and his hold up play was excellent, ran his socks off and was visibly knackered at the end.
Wyke 7 - Very good finish from him and looked better than he did against Chesterfield.

6 to all the subs.

Just about got that spot 1954, was surprised that Kennedy didn't come off, who by his high standards was a bit below par, and be replaced by Dicker who was excellent on Tuesday night.

Surprised Grainger wasn't subbed in the first half with the exception of the assist he was dreadful could even deside where he wanted to pass to, looked suicidal looking to pass backwards when pushing forwards and didn't look like he could command toffees, he did look more composed in the second half but as the captain he should be putting in some stand out performances and show some sodding leadership, though that maybe just be me expecting more from him

Ibehre, Wyke, Gillespie, Hery and Miller did well.

Brough and Thompson were especially poor, maybe I can let Thompson off, it was his first professional start in two years after all. Brough shouldn't play V Plymouth.

First time I've seen us this Season / Pre-Season.

Gillespie - 7. Kicking was a bit questionable but his shot stopping was a different class, unlucky with 2nd goal after a super save.
Miller - 7/8. Best defender we have, comfortable on the ball and good technically. Made a few mistakes but I think he looks like a cracking find long term.
Raynes - 6. Just a big unit, doesn't fit with the passing play though. Troy would be much better..
Grainger - 6. So frustrating, does something good then makes a horrendous decision?
Thompson - 6. Understandably rusty and it showed, very positive player though and always talking to Miller at RCB.
Brough - 5. Poor game from Pat, he'll come good though.
Joyce - 6. Poor mistake but does the nitty gritty work. Sat too deep for my liking leaving a gap which Cambridge exploited but guessing he was told to do that.
Kennedy - 5. Did nothing really..
Hery - 8. Considering he's our attacking CM he put in more tackles than Joyce and Kennedy combined. Great feet, looks to create as soon as he gets the ball.
Wyke - 7. Awesome goal, held up play reasonably well too.
Ibehre - 10. MOM did nothing wrong, what a player.

Subs all 6.

Curle - 7. I like the passing football, going to be the odd mistake yeah but that'll fade as players get more used to the style of play. In terms of selection, I don't think you can play Joyce and Kennedy together at home. Not enough creativity for me in midfield with those 2. Could also do with playing a better ball playing CB than Raynes.

Curate's egg of a performance, I like the fact we are trying to pay out from the back, but it caused us problems today as Cambridge were wise to it and we didn't adjust our game. Thought the midfield was really poor, huge gap between midfield and defence and no pressure on the ball carrier even in the edge of our own box , especially in the second half.

Gillespie 6 : Two decent saves, doesn't exude confidence.
Thompson 4: Thought he lacked conviction in his crossing and passing, understandable perhaps as he hasn't played much football in recent times. Though McQueen showed real drive and desire when he came on, winning corners where Thompson's attacks just fizzled out.
Miller 6: Looks a good strong player, would be better as wingback, and TAH in the middle, but seems Curle is trying to 'persuade' him to leave by not playing him
Raynes 4: Reminds me of Mark Ogley this means I cannot mark him objectively.
Grainger 6: Looks better having lost some weight, slightly more mobile, decent left foot.
Brough 4: Tin man
Kennedy 5: Intelligent player, is he mobile enough?
Hery 6: I was impressed to begin with, but thought he disappered in the second half.
Joyce 4: Regardless of his error though he was poor, seems lightweight and very average.
Wyke 7: Took his goal well... potential
Ibehre 10: Wow looking at his career record, don't expect him to score again till January ;)

Arrived at 2.45pm there was a bit of a queue fortunately the billionaire guy was there giving out tickets. Top man.

Have to agree with ragingblue on the ratings apart from hery i thought he was poorer today than against chesterfield never really got going.

Miller is a great signing and will be a carlisle favourite this season gives 100% to the cause and nearly scored today gonna be a goalscoring fullback

Gillespie 5
Thompson 3
Miller 6
Raynes 6
Grainger 5
Brough 3
Joyce 5
Hery 7
Kennedy 6
Wyke 6
Jabo 10

Obviously outstanding performance from Ibehre. Think Brough and Thompson were especially poor, would like to see McQueen start on Tuesday. Thought Joyce was poor in the first half but reacted well to making the mistake and was better in the second half. I don't think he suits the style of play as he looks uncomfortable on the ball - I would start Dicker as he is an ideal player to link the defence and the attack. As much as I like playing football from the back, we need to realise that we have big Jabo up front so if we're under pressure we can go long if we need to. I'm confident though that as the season goes on we will improve and get used to the change in style. It's certainly going to be an exciting season!

Do we think Curle will ever play Troy again?

If this Leacock comes in he will go ahead of him in the pecking order and from tuesday it would appear that Miller to CB is an option before big Troy.

If so a huge disappointment, because the guys quality is obvious and also a real fan favourite

Gillespie 7 - Couple of very good saves to keep is in it at times
Thompson 5 - Average, needs more game time
Raynes 6 - No where near as good as Tuesday night
Grainger 6 - To negative in the first half better in the second
Miller 6 - Would of been 7 if it wasn't for that glaring pass but there is some great signs from him
Brough 3 - Hasn't been with it this season so far.
Joyce 6 - Poor in the first improved in the second
Kennedy 7 - Worked very hard running on empty
Hery 7 - Took his time to get going but did well
Wyke - 7.5 Held it up well good goal liked his play today
Jabo 10 - Immense.

Subs all 6

Liked us playing two big strikers up front against quite a physical team don't think the game would of suited a Derek Asamoah

Got to say Kennedy was our worst player. Thompson not far behind. Joyce made a mistake and recovered well, but although I was pleased we signed him, still think Dicker is a better option.

Gillespie 6
Thompson 2
Miller 8
Raynes 5
Grainger 6
Brough 6
Joyce 4
Kennedy 2

Are you going to mark Joyce down a point or two every game regardless of how he plays and mention Dicker as his replacement, think I will keep an eye out for this

Will just mark him down a point or two every time he falls over, leaving an opposition striker clean through on goal, as I would any other player.

One mistake knocks a whole point off the scores now then ?

Bet he would need to do 10 good things before he got it back, then he probably won't as he is one of those players that does the unnoticed stuff like Barry etc.

Did our hat trick hero not miss a shot yesterday or does that not count in deductions ?

Or how about the fact that he should never have been passed the ball in a dangerous position while he was facing goal in the first place.

Joyce was also pretty poor on the fourth, as was Grainger, and Miller who have the ball away. I think Joyce will come good. The stupid play the ball from the back thing is the manager's fault. By all means do it if the opposition allow you to but if everyone is marked then stop doing it. It was very obvious in the first half we would concede doing this. Also passing to a player closer to the half way line would be preferable to passing to a player who is marked on the edge of his own penalty area

Gillespie 7 (superb save in second half tipping over)
Miller 6
Raines 4
Grainger 4
Brough 5
Thompson 4
Joyce 4
Kennedy 4
Hery 6
Jabo 9
Wyke 6

McQueen 6
Osei 6
Balanta 6

Proper mixed bag...

Gillespie 7
Miller 6
Raynes 3
Grainger 6
Thompson 4
Joyce 5
Kennedy 5
Hery 6
Brough 5
Wyke 7
Ibehre 9

Osei 6
Balanta 6
McQueen 6

This passing from the back at every chance will be our downfall. There's a time and place for it.

Defence was all over the shop, not helped by the WB's having poor games. Raynes was terrible.

Midfield were off their game, Kennedy and Joyce very quiet. Hery was ok, but not as influential.

Up front we were superb. These 2 have to be our first choice pairing!

If you got docked a point for every mistake Grainger would be a minus score every game. His first half performance reminded me of Mike Graham. Absolute liability when you consider Troys on the bench!

Pretty much agree with CCU's ratings although not bang on. The only reason I can think of Hery being substituted was because he was on a yellow and the ref had also gave him a talking too and he was quickly off not long after even though he was our liveliest MF.

If Dicker doesn't start ahead of Joyce next game then there is summat wrong. Raynes not suited to the middle CB and hardly won a header all day.

Certainly was a mixed bag.

Raynes, Grainger, Thompson, Kennedy, Joyce were all really poor. Osei did very little when he came on.

Jabo was fantastic, Gillespie pulled off some great saves and Wyke's finish was excellent.

Don't think it's harsh to deduct a point from Joyce for falling over the ball directly from kick off, an error that directly led to the conceding of a goal just before half time.

Thompson might need game time, but first team fixtures when there are at least 2 players that can do the job better than him in that game really doesn't seem like the right option.

So what you're saying is, that if a player makes a mistake that directly leads to us conceding a goal, he shouldn't suffer a lower rating as a result? Who are you? Luke Joyce's mum?

Nope, just sick of reading loads of negative shite, even when the team as a whole played well.

It is okay saying the strikers played well and giving them high marks because we scored 4 but they didn't walk up the pitch passing it between them, surely some other players played a part in creating said goals.

You wouldn't think so looking at the majority of the marks.

But tbh the first post was a bit of a joke (about keeping an eye on you) hence the whistle smiley.
