It will be some kind of 'we still can't say anything as we have a confidentiality clause with someone who does not exist'......

Frankly; a comparison of JN with MK doesn't bode well for JN or Jenkins, which is a great shame...

Don't expect something major, probably along the lines of 'there is an investor who's worth loads, these things take time" etc, and a general wishy washy load of claptrap that pussyfoots around the major points...

I picked up on that too Richard as I read it as the wording did seem to suggest they were trying to diminish or lower expectation for the bid, but then I thought because the latest buzzword is billionaire this can have a creeping affect on our imaginations, but an initial investment of £9,900,000 would still a seven figure sum however unlikely and enough to make us a very different club and who knows if everything was to fall into place where it could lead to. I realise this is all pie in the sky before people reply I'm a crazy gullible fool but am just pointing out a seven figure sum is a wide ranging statement and typical of the kind disinformation available out there right now.

So I'm reading that to be a bid matching the Lapping £1.26m?

To sumarise the N&S; article today.

Talks have been positive but holidays, illness and the investor's business commitments have delayed fafe-to-face meetings.

Efforts are now being made to areange a visit to Carlisle for the investor.

United have set no deadline for the investor to table a proposal but warned fans that deal could take some time.

More details will not be offered to the fans or the trust until the mystery party agrees to lift any confidentiality clause and any deal is close.

The trust and other shareholders will be expected to dilute their stake in the club under any new investment plan.

The club did not rule out re-engaging with Andrew Lapping if the billionaires approach comes to nothing.

According to research the club have undertaken they confirm that the invest proposal is from a Billionaire,

Thought that was common knowledge? They'd said from the start that it would be the same setup as Lapping's proposal, except there would be £260k available for local investment, meaning this billionaire was only actually injecting 1m himself...for what, 36% of a league 2 football club. Yeah right! Taking us all for fools.

What a pack of knob heads. This really is going to go on for a long time. I reckon people are right in saying AJ and JN are hoping for a good start to the season on the pitch in the hope that we all somehow forgot about this nonsense.

Cheers fedupblue. No great surprise, I could have probably predicted that 'update' word for word. Maybe except for the illness bit, which is a new excuse for them in their ongoing fantasy.

'Efforts to arrange a visit to Carlisle'. What a crock of ***. If this person actually did exist (which they don't), then they could visit Carlisle whenever they like if they were really interested in doing so. I don't remember 'efforts being exhaustively made' over the course of several months to try to get Andrew Lapping to visit Carlisle. He did so many times under his own volition, whenever he was required to do so, during the many long months of his own time and effort that was spent on trying to save this club.

The statement didn't really help at all, not for me anyway.

I felt after being burned on the radio and press of late JN was trying to say the least possible. It may be to keep confidentiality but it came over as "I'm telling you plebs nothing, hahaha" I'm sure it wasn't meant to read like that, but I felt more annoyed than reassured

As for the mystery billionaire, and if he exists, it's getting to the stage where it doesn't really matter, all the secrecy, slight of hand and delay is killing the club. Every time I meet a Carlisle fan I hear the same story, "I'm not going back, I may go to the odd away game, but I'm not going back to Brunton Park, I feel I'm being made a fool of". If this drags on until the season starts there will just be the very hardcore fans left, not happy clappers, just the ones who can't walk away from the club yet.

I don't think I've met a billionaire, I've met a few self made millionaires, what they had in common was the drive to make decisions and follow through with them. If they decided to do something it got done, if not by themselves by some one delegated to do it. If it didn't get done it was because it wasn't important to them to get it done, they had plenty else more important. The way this is dragging on, at best says its a low priority and doesn't instill any confidence for the future.

If this mystery investor hasn't made the effort to come to Carlisle then he/she can't be serious about investing, the club should put a timetable on it and if they don't meet it they should go cap in hand back to Lapping and beg his forgiveness then the two incompetents should do a disappearing act.

So Nixon and Jenkins stonewall a billionaire because they've 2 weeks in benidorm booked? It must be one of them that took the hols as a billionaire will have enough agents and proxies to ensure his interests run 365/24/7, and it won't be one of the cufc minions who affected it, every company with more employees than a crocodile feeder has fingers understands the concept of holiday cover.

I wouldn't take these excuses off a student who was late handing in work, I'd want a granny dying at least.

One or the other sides in this are either not serious or non-existent

AL needs to keep talking to the media, reassuring the fans (and to remind JN/AJ) that he's going nowhere. How long can they carry on with these pathetic lies? Will they still be bullsh1tting us fans in to believing they are trying to arrange a meet with this "billionaire" in 12 months time?

Far easier for Lapping to come to Carlisle whenever needed as he loved in Hexham and worked in Glasgow, hardly a massive trek.

As we don't know who the mystery investor is we don't know where they are based. Surely it could have been easier for the Custodians of our club to arrange a meeting with the investor somewhere else, possibly near to a major aiprort (Newcastle/Manchester) so, of they are foreign based, they can fly in, have a netting and go.

If they are just the initial meetings they don't have to be held at BP.

Right, so it has been 3 weeks since the last statement and in that time they've managed 2 phone calls with this fella's agent.

This really is the statement I was predicting, in another 3 weeks we'll get another telling us that talks are at an important stage. Then 3 weeks later there will be a statement about really tough negotiations, and a further 3 weeks later he'll pull out. That will be the end of August. If we start badly the last statement will be pushed back until we're winning.

Well even though it's what I was expecting....I'm livid. Pathetic responses, won't even call them answers.
We should by now (if Lapping deal had gone through) have £1.25m in the bank, no debt, new MD and a number of local businesses well linked in through their investment. Trust sorted too.
A positive vibe and season tickets flying out the door. And door open to any other investment like the supposed billionaire...
Instead?
Nothing. Zip. Nowt. Zilch. And most tellingly JN still in charge.
As another poster has said a quite remarkable Hattrick of truly crass decisions has been taken. Abbot, kav and now dropping the Lapping deal.
They asked Lapping to put matters on hold for three weeks. That expired three weeks ago. Lapping should tell em to stick it where sun doesn't shine.
Simply and utterly moronic.
I expect Dempsey will be sold soon for a fee which will be a lot less than it should be but enough to keep us bumbling along.

Always possible that it's part of the master plan, keep poking the trust with a stick whilst waiting for Lapping to walk then goad the trust into stamping it's feet then say the billionaire walked because of the evil trust win/win still in control and still just temporary stewards of the club waiting for an offer.

Well they answered the questions trouble is in answering them they told us virtually nowt. If all that has been managed is two calls to an agent then the prospect for a new owner anytime soon is not likely. Expect another harrowing season

To a billionaire buying a club like Carlisle United us chicken feed and could be done inside a few weeks.
To not even have met up with JN and AJ after the initial announcement is beyond belief, and why still be hiding behind a confidentiality clause. Do we want an owner who is as secretive as JN and AJ.
personally I'd rather have less hard cash put in with the Lappin business plan and have an owner who connects with the fans.

In my view there are two types of 'billionaire' who could be interested in investing in Carlisle United. The first is someone fancying a dabble in English football for effectively loose change. This could be anyone with the money but is more likely to be someone who has amassed a lot of money quickly and who buys himself playthings, private jets, expensive cars, football clubs etc. The second type of billionaire is someone who can leverage his investment and get additional value out of it. Someone like Richard Branson already has an indirect involvement with Carlisle as Virgin Trains are the shirt sponsor. Imagine if the new Blue Yonder stadium were to be called the Virgin Media Stadium or something similar (probably it is just coincidence that Virgin had Blueyonder as an email service). Branson has in the past had numerous relatively piddling investments using the Virgin name. Branson has historically also been quite keen on trying to match other people's offers rather than being a pioneer (no pun intended). The new Channel 5 tv deal also could change the finances of League clubs. More airtime will mean more value in ground advertising. Owning 45% of the club where you are spending heavily on advertising could make a big difference. To someone like Branson, a million pound investment is relatively low risk ( he would be investing on similar terms to the Lapping plan which made financial sense to its investors) yet he is in a better position than almost anyone to extract additional value from a lucrative deal to name the new stadium and from ground advertising.

This is just my guesswork. I've met Branson several times and he is surprisingly risk averse in business. I could never envisage him getting involved with a Premier League club but a minority investment in a mid-table League 2 club while advertising Virgin Trains or Virgin Media at every opportunity for £1.26m sounds perfect for him.
