Decent enough signing. We needed to sign somebody who can hold the ball up... or at least challenge for the aimless 60 yard punts forward. He has pretty decent skill level and pace and his experience will be useful with the likes of Rigg/Wyke. I doubt he will get that many goals though as he has played over 400 games at an average of one goal every 5 and a half games.

I called hima big old unit in the original post.... then I read that he is the same height as me and a stone lighter

Actually, the main problem for the last few years has been shipping 60-70 goals a season. If we're tighter at the back the strikers may well take more chances as there's less pressure to score with every shot just to keep us in some games.

If he's signed, why not just announce it? Is Curle waiting to get a couple more in then he can announce 3 signings at the same time? Maybe he's very close to getting a couple of others through the door. Could be quite interesting. Defence sorted in Curle's mind, a couple of decent midfield signings, now he's after more forward players. Not actually a bad way to go about building a team, particularly after last season.

Get Ibehre in, keep Dempsey and sign a pair of speedy wingers and we've the makings of an actual team.

Just a pity the boardroom stuff is so cack.

Chicken and the egg conundrum... I say pressure on strikers because of leaky defence, you say pressure on defence because we don't take chances. Probably a mix of both.

I imagine everything will start to take shape properly over the next week or so, most clubs have their financial year end on 30th June, and a lot of footballers contracts also run to that date. Some of these lads will be having to take a cut in pay so will be hanging on for as much as they can get out of us. I'm sure we'll be offloading most of them, none of them will want to sit around in the stand not even getting a look in, they'll want to be playing in order to get a further contract and extend their career. No use to any of them having a full season at a struggling league 2 outfit not even getting a kick.

Here's a comment from a Walsall fan on Ibehre:

"Jabo is a great league 2 signing. Probably the best hold up player in the league, he was one of the best in league 1. Tireless, strong as an ox, never gives up, great characteristics for a footballer. He isn't great at finishing and he will miss a few sitters, but he's a 10 goal a season, tireless, strong back to goal forward. Play someone quick with an eye for a goal off him and you have a good little remedy there."

He's not going to score shitloads but to be honest, if he causes problems and creates space and opportunities for Wyke and Rigg, he'll be a great asset. He's played against Carlisle plenty of times, scoring 4 goals against us in his career, he was also sent off at Brunton Park when he played for Stockport County. I got fed up of us launching the ball to Wyke last season who seemed either uniterested in getting his head on it or was out-muscled nearly everytime it came his way. It obviously didn't suit his style of play but carried on doing it regardless.

(The goal right after Monakana's goal) He's big and powerful, but he's got a turn of pace to get away from people as well which is why I don't necessarily think signing him will guarantee hoofball tactics.
