this should be on the 'general sport' section and not on 'CUFC talk' - not sure if you can amend it or otherwise delete it and start again in the correct bit

I haven't voted on that thread about different chat things, and I most likely won't vote either, but for what it's worth here's my view.

When the old board was really good (back when Al was running things and later under Tashy as well), there were a huge variety of different issues discussed all "under one roof" as it were. One of the things that made it so great was the variety of topics and answers, and the people making the comments. There was never any need to separate out the stuff that might not have a significant appeal to those just interested in football. That may be because the general level of intelligence of the average poster was much higher back then, and they all were able to pick and choose what they read and contributed to, or then again it may not. I would prefer a board where there can be comments about all manner of things, granted the football is the main topic of conversation on this board and always will be. However, is everybody going to go looking for threads on a load of other forums? I think not. That being the case there will be less posts on the other forums, so my advice is to stick it all together and trust the posters to be able to pick and choose.

It could spark interesting stuff.

Getting back to the Ashes, I love them. Love test cricket. Glad that one day/t20 bollocks v New Zealand is over, now on to proper cricket. Not got a ticket for this years series. Bit gutted now to be honest. Had a great day last time at Old Trafford. Bit more confident than I was 2 month ago.

Agree about not needing to segregate different topics but not sure peoples intellect levels have anything to do with formats etc. don't really see what your trying to get at there.

What as it got to do with intelligence btw ? Nobody on here requested it to be like this, so how all of a sudden anybody using this site is suddenly less intelligent than your old pals from the days of yore and bore I will never know.

Also nearly every other football site I post on has this sort of layout, it is mainly to stop the main board being cluttered up with absolute shite topics like "what is your favourite crisps" pushing more relevant topics off the first page, because worse than having set forums to post in not many posters will go to page two and see what they missed.

Surely you are intelligent enough to navigate with two clicks to the relevant sub forum, I mean they even highlight it to say something new has been posted.

And as for the glory days of your long lost site, it is dead on its arse and wasn't that good to start with, what fun is a site that has one man arguing with everybody else, you have to ask yourself why folks were quick to make this site their preferred choice.

I think the average age of posters on the old board at the time I'm talking about was quite a bit higher than it is on here, in general those posters had a wider range of interests they wanted to discuss on the messageboard than seems to be the case here. Why that may be I have no idea, but in my view it makes for a far more interesting board if there is a wider range of topics.

It doesn't take two clicks if you just click on recent topics. Just the one.

Do you think it should be the same as nearly every football board alf? Or don't you see any merit at all in being different?

I don't suppose you were posting on the old site when it was very good, but it was good because there were different opinions, and people could have a laugh, and a lot of the other posters understood they were having a laugh (without them needing to post smileys). That board dropped off because of the way footymad went though, not because of one argumentative bloke. Yes it was going to shit at the time anyway, but being down for a couple of weeks never helped at all.

How do you know the age of folk on here, there seems to be plenty of older people posting and plenty off the other board, by wider range of topics do you just mean ones you were interested in ?

Well stop your moaning then.
Moorlad wrote:

Do you see any merit in this site being different than the one you used to love ? Or do you feel the need to replicate the past.

I am also sure there is something about bandwith use and slowdown to take into account and it improves when the forums are separated and kept clean and tidy, but I may also being talking crap.

I never posted on the other site at all, maybe I missed the halcyon days but what I used to read was in the main as equally puerile as some of the stuff you think gets posted on here and then as you say near the end with all the arguing, actually it wasn't the arguing it was the fact he was an obnoxious prick that thought he was right and would not entertain another point of view if it killed him.

On the age of posters alf I think you'll agree there is a difference between thinking and knowing. I think by wider range of topics I mean exactly what I said, not all just about football, that is not just what I'm interested in, there were plenty of threads I would never reply to, just as there will be on here, whether football or anything else.

I don't believe I'm moaning by the way just stating a case. I can actually see the merits of both, and you're really putting words in my mouth saying I loved the old board, it certainly had it's problems even in the time I was talking about. That having been said, it was one of the most successful of the Footymad boards for a fair number of years, and it was that way for a reason (or a number of reasons). I really don't think drawing from what worked in the past is a bad thing, nor is using what is successful now. Users on here are being polled and 75% appear to be somewhat sympathetic with the idea that a single forum would be best.

I won't be arguing with your last paragraph.

They are voting that way only because like you that is what they are used too, if they didn't get the choice in 6 months it would be second nature to look at the footy and then off topic for some laughs/conversation on worldly matters or tits and arses if somebody revived the bewers thread

That may well be the case I suppose, but would it be a grudging sort of second nature, a bit like going to Brunton Park, you do it because you feel you have to, not through any real choice?

You can sort the tits and arses, I'm too old to bother about much of that to be fair.

As a matter of fact, yes. I love Test Match Cricket, I actually still think it is the pure form of the game. However, I think England, although they have played particularly well in the recent one day matches, will still struggle against what looks a very good Australian team. It is actually going to be interesting to see what direction England feel they should take, should some of those one day players be included in the Test team just to give it a bit more aggression? Or should they stick with the tried and tested middle order? I don't really think the likes of Morgan (even though he's talking himself up) will be included from the start, but lose the first two games and it may well be an option.

Going to be good, but not as good as 10 years ago. I expect England to lose the series, but not too heavily.

This thread should be in the general sport section. That's what it's for.

Personally, I like football. Don't give a shit about cricket, golf, tennis, rugby, horse racing, racing cars, darts, snooker or dwarf throwing.

If you ae into any of these things, whoopee do. Theres a space called general sport for you. This space is called cufc talk. There's a clue in the name.

Alf I think our little discussion on the subject was carried out in a more informative and interesting way, and did actually give me pause for some thought, which after all a debate is supposed to do. Having said that, this little interlude has greatly amused me, and is, I feel, a quite glowing endorsement for having only one forum. None of this would have happened on an off topic forum.

I love test cricket and have since I was a boy. 50 over is ok but 20/20 isn't really for me.

If I win the Euromillions tonight I'll be following the Ashes this summer without a doubt and you can stick Carlisle United up your @rse.. B)

Staying in top hotels, drinking champagne and watching cricket sounds like a good plan to me! Maybe with a couple of top heavy beauties thrown in.
