It was speculated that Billy Paynter was paid a certain sum of money to relocate to Carlisle... I thought I seen somewhere that this never transpired and he in fact continued to commute from merseyside... Fee i've heard was £70k....

Where do we stand getting that back? Was it ever paid back by Billy? Have any other players been offered this?

Hi bluesmad, just thought I would let you know the crack regarding what you heard, the relocation fee would be nowhere near that amount pal,if it was there was no way he would receive it unless had proof of purchase etc.

The relocation fee is usually around a 5 figure sum which can act as a deposit/rent for a new player to put towards his accommodation while at the club.

When I first joined I thought I would move to Carlisle so in my contract the club offered to pay 10% of the property I bought. I soon realised Carlisle wasn't that far away from Newcastle and bought a house over there which was a bit more expensive then I think they thought I would be spending, next thing I was summoned to john nixons office to be told they meant only a house in Carlisle. This is where simmo had my absolute dedication as he informed john that it doesn't stipulate in contract where the house should be bought and if I wanted to buy one in Florida they would still have to pay, 1-0!

Fred wasn't happy but I promised him promotion so we were sweet!

It just shows Nixon's ability to run a business! it beggars belief who in there right mind would allow players to travel from Liverpool etc daily for training whats the furthest anyone has done daily Lummy?

Sorry that should have been 4 figure amount but may have rose to 5 figure but not much.

Livesey was probably the furthest traveller at around an hour and half tops, they stayed up 3/4 nights a week

Cheers Lummy, thought it was a steep figure but you know what the rumour mills like, it's interesting to see the different components which make up contracts... I'm young and naive and always kinda see contracts as weekly figures so cheers for the insight...

Lucky you kept your word on getting us promoted.... Twice... Still my favourite moment ever you clearing the stand at Stoke...

If it's 5 grand to send a 40 foot shipping container to australia (emigratingtooz.com/pages/leavingtheuk/shipping.aspx), I reckon moving a sleeping bag and a beer fridge to a caravan in silloth would be about £84.97p :-)

£70k?! Think £10k was banded about early last season, which would be more like it based on a rumoured £2.5k a week salary?

I think what Lummy means is he realised he could get more drinking done unnoticed in the north east than if he moved to Carlisle

I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure that free-kick which cleared the stand was one of Lummy's shots at goal. ;)

I remember when you signed, i thought that a central midfiled miestro was what we required, good things were said of you by other fans on the 'old board' espeically by i think Burnley or Barnsley fans? The rest is history. Money well spent! It would have been worth it if you'd bought a place on the moon.

Know the thread`s dead really- but I heard it was O`hanlon not Paynter - He was signed from Hibs and chose to relocate from Edinburgh to Liverpool area not Carlisle

Wouldn't dispute it was him but I think he was playing non league up there the season after Hibs got rid of him.
