TOPIC: Business done early

Business done early 01 Jul 2025 08:54 #1

Whilst we will have to wait and see whether or not it has been good business, it has been a pleasant change to see a manager getting new players in early on. Previous managers always seemed to be waiting for everyone else to finish their business and picking up the scraps with little or no success.
Certainly seems to be a good balance to the squad, a little more flair and one or 2 more off the books could see us have a much more productive season

On the flip side there could be a rake of cracking players reducing demands as the weeks tick by?

Hopefully we're going to start the season well for a change - a settled squad that has had a full pre-season to gel should help that.

It must be an advantage to have a team in place for pre-season. One of the problems in previous years has been hanging on until the last minute in the hope of signing a "bargain". Certainly that was Abbott's theory. We're then told players aren't fit because they haven't had a proper pre-season.

As well as building it early he is building it with character, I already think this team will not so easily be pushed aside as we have been at times in the last few seasons, as long as he doesn't sprinkle to much aggression into the mix we should have a team more up for the fight ahead. Having said that, it's that time of year when regardless of what else is going on around the club, the unavoidable feeling of optimism hope and expectation starts to wake deep within from it's close season slumber and begins to rear it's head.

I think we've got the core of a decent squad now. With 2 months left of the transfer market, priority should be trying to get some of the listed players moved on (loan or permanent), if we can get rid of 4 or 5, then we can maybe add a couple more later on before deadline day.

Good to see he's started early yes.

Gives him plenty of time to alienate and get rid of the majority of his squad before the season starts this time around, instead of halfway through like last year.

It's good to see plus it stops the annual pre-season meltdown from pacirv. :-)

six and two threes to my mind....for what you save by holding on for that "Special" signing you lose by missing out on others.
I'd much rather we had our business done early and the team is together for several weeks prior to seasons start instead of the previous seasons where players wouldn't have even had time to say hello to the the others before the first League match day.

So he would be damned either way by you then, so it wouldn't matter if he signed them early or late.

Surely even you can see early signings have a better chance of bedding in with their new team mates than being signed with week to go.

If you are going to slag the man at least do it on something worth slagging him off for.

And you obviously haven't read his previous 300 posts, but maybe that was too much for you to think of independently and then put all that information together into one single thought.

I hardly thought it needed said about his past comments on KC but obviously I did.

Am I the only 1 that's struggling to see where the inevitable 1 month loan signings will fit in?

Well we know where one of them will fit in .... as cover for Hanford when Gillespie gets the inevitable stretcher 12 min into the third game of the season after performing like a galactico in the first two games.
