Worth a read? No.
First, the blatant factual inaccuracies. Or, "lies":
"two seasons in a row, the club has sacked the manager early and then found themselves suffering at the wrong end of the table" No. Other way round! We sacked the managers because they had us in the relegation zone with no hope for improvement. Poor writing.
"solid League Two stalwarts like Billy Paynter" - as mentioned above, this is another falsehood. Poor research.
"A solid, unimaginative boss, he was a throwback to a simpler age" Solid boss? Evidence? No, didn't think so. A managerial CV with 1 relegation on it and nothing else. More lies.
"engineered a small turnaround that staved off relegation thanks in no small part to bringing back into the fold the players he had exiled in the first place"
It was Wyke's equaliser against Pompey that kept us up. Check if you don't believe it, but it's true. That put us on 42 points, and therefore above Tranmere (39) and Cheltenham (41).
Also, I'd argue that it was astute signings such as Wyke and Kennedy, and getting the best from Dempsey (including making him captain) that helped keep us up, not eventually bringing on Paynter when 3 other strikers were injured!
" Brad Potts, arguably the best player at the club..." the statement of a man who watches 2 or 3 CUFC games a season at most. Even Potts himself wouldn't make this claim (I hope!) Who cleaned up at the end of the season awards do again? Not Brad!
"Robson spent six years at the club and his status was approaching talismanic" I think Mr Wilson may need to look up the word "talismanic"!
Robson was "Well liked by fans" was he? I seem to remember him being a bit of a marmite player. I like him, hundreds didn't! No doubt he was past it though. Injury meant he couldn't even succeed at gateshead. How could he have in League 2 then?
"a bizarre standoff with Alex Marrow" - Marrow stormed out when not selected. a lack of ability and poor attitude meant he was moved on. Pulled up any trees for his new club? Do we expect any of the released players to? Paynter in his interview neglects to state his awful injury record, massive wage, unwillingness to move within 100 miles of the club, and his 1 solitary league goal in the last 26 months. Why believe everything he says?
Curle had a massive job on, dealing with the awful recruitment of the last 2 years of the moron Abbott, then the even worse Kavanagh - he joined a club with 1 (useless) left back, and 3 centre halves. No right backs. after 4 wins in GK's last 9 months, Curle kept us up with something to spare, and has given us hope with Gillespie, Wyke, Dempsey all doing well and some decent signings. He may not be the right man to take us forward, but compared to the previous 3 abysmal managers he's practically Matt sodding Busby.
Bloggers like this really need to try harder, and instead trying to warp the truth into their half-baked theories, instead start with the facts and work from there.
Worth a read? Not even close.
Ha, top post. I used to love picking things apart in that fashion, just can't be a*sed these days though! Well done, 100000x better read than the "article".
