Good article but I thought the story about the female physio and the champagne was from another of our much-disliked rivals - Stevenage.

That away game was a brilliant day out. We absolutely owned their pub before the match to the extent the police came and closed it down at 2pm. After Holmes OG we equalised 7 seconds after the restart, they were still celebrating. Then Hackney scored the winner.

As much as I hate both Barnet and Stevenage with a passion bordering on the maniacal, it’s Wycombe Wanderers that the bitterest bile is saved for.

Another non-league team watched and serviced by ‘new money’ and hosted in a ground down 1000 yards of industrial cul-de-sac that winds its way like a distended colon.

A team that snuffed United’s first play-off dream back in 1994, shoe-d us 4-0 two years later when we were hanging on to the dream of 3rd tier survival and has found a way of habitually stealing points off us ever since.

All appropriately capped off with the odious numpty that is Gareth Ainsworth and his band of merry muppets, coiled like springs ready to animatedly leap into the faces of the officials waving imaginary red cards as soon as anyone dares tackle a Wycombe player.

I should be going on Sat. One of my closest mates is a Barnet regular and his daughter works at the club. I could have a free ticket but can't go. Really can't be bothered with this grudge bearing from years ago. Let's move on eh?

I couldnt care less about Barnet Stevenage Wycombe or anyone else for that matter. I prefer to dislike individuals and Martin Allen is certainly high up my list. Remember the time he had some Oldham fans ejected from Whaddon Road for having a flag with born in Oldham live in Oldham die in Oldham written on it?.

I was pumped up for this match, it was Fairclough for me, now I don't like to use this word but he was a sly C***!, I dont mind a C***, I was one myself on the pitch, but he was a sly one and that's the worst. Pretending to be this nice guy but I sussed him early on. The roman emperor thing, I was gutted none of their players didn't want a ruck with us, we had finished them off mentally and physically on the pitch.

After the conference final about 2 days later (still on the lash), Fairclough rang me asking me to reconsider my decision not to go to the European Championships with England C, I left him in no doubt what I thought about him as a person and manager! He never called again...

In 30-odd years of supporting CUFC I don't think I've ever disliked an opposition side as much as that Barnet team.

Nicky Bailey was the worst for me, the squeaky cheat. But then there was Fairclough, Hendon, Grazioli etc - I didn't like Yakubu either.

Truly an historic bunch of ****s.

It's interesting to hear Chris's views as a player,and a favourite one of mine at that,from a players point of view its understandable but as a fan for 30 years loosing our league status was devastating for me and as someone who grew up watching (admittedly one sided on our part) rivalries against Burnley,Preston,Wigan and the like the thought of a "rivalry" with a Mickey mouse outfit such as Barnet is just a sad reminder of a sad time.

Not only do they claim we were bankrolled by Milesone (exaggerate much?), they have the nerve to call us 'tinpot' - which may be true, but not compared to them! On the link referenced by deeksme, one of them is getting excited at the prospect of a crowd of 2000. Now that's what I call tinpot!

My irrational hatred of Barnet has been rekindled!

On second thoughts, I couldn't give a monkey's about them, their glory days in non-league, or their one solitary season above 4th tier level!

I don't mind Barnet to be honest. You've got to admire glorified non league sides like them, Daggers, Morecambe, Accrington and the like who maintain league football on crowds of 1800 when there's much larger clubs in the Conference struggling on big budgets.

They may have been a sneaky snide bunch of c***s in that Coference season but it worked. You've got to play to your strengths. We definitely had the better players that year but Barnet still finished miles above us!
