I was 14 and selling programmes. An Everton fan apologised to me for mistaking me in my green anorak as a young lady (with comment to boot). I sold a lot of programmes that day. Brunton Park was packed (25,000) so we were sat on a bench next to the home dugout to which we were walking down the tunnel shortly after kick off. A crowd surge had led to some crushing in the Warwick Road end and those at the front that were impaled on the wooden fence were being carried out just as we went to take our seat.

I remember that game I was 14 too. Wasn't selling programmes though.

I was eleven don't recall anyone being impaled thank God, the fence in the Warwick collapsed loads of scousers climbed over the wall on the paddock side of Warwick causing the crush, we went in the waterworks five minutes earlier walked down cinder track alongside pitch. Good game Alan Ball played I assume Kendall and Harvey played. So toe rag accusers getting in without tickets not paying nothing changes. Sure we played Ipswich at home and it was a voucher game for cup ?

I was there, Everton's scorers I think were Jimmy Husband and Joe Royle.

I was there and seem to recall the wooden fence in front of the now East stand being flattened. Did Lobone score from about 30 yards out?

Can't remember if Alan Ball played,assuming he must have, remember him playing for Arsenal in the cup a few years later, probably the first player to wear white boots.

God knows how they got 25k into BP - did they pack 10k into the paddock? When was segregation introduced at football grounds? I also didn't realise it wasn't until the 60s or 70s that the Warwick got a roof. Would love to see a photo of that.

No ground safety officers in those days and there would be more than 25 thousand as the rusty old turnstiles didn't take your postcode but some of the rusty old turnstile operators had big pockets . I was packed in the Scratching Pen with a few thousand others it was like an Indian commuter train. To the left and right of the scratcher there was no terracing just two asphalt banks, no barriers and both sides packed with those at the front keeping those at the back in an upright position. Likewise the Paddock probably had two or three barriers in total as did the Warwick Road End, hence the crowd surge and the rickety fence collapse. All of which was tame compared to the Gallowgate End at Newcastle on a busy day - but we did have better Scotch pies back then!

The Warwick Road End roof was installed in the early sixties - around the same time as the terraces were concreted.
